Aeliana Kekoa
The sound of faint thunder rumbled overhead as Aeliana pedalled her bike as quickly as she could. She had only planned to hang out with Faye for a few minutes. Now she was running late and her mother was probably going to be very angry about that. The fourteen year old quickly pulled into the parking lot of the apartment complex, before immediately parking her bike in its usual spot in the rack. The teenager didn't even bother to make sure she locked it up properly, instead rushing straight up the rusty and creaky stairs towards her apartment. As she reached the door, Aeliana fumbled for the keys. She quickly realized however that she didn't actually need them once she put her hand on the knob and the door easily swung open.
"Oh… oh boy…"
She slowly walked into the apartment, shutting the door gently behind her. After kicking off her shoes, Aeliana began to make her way towards the kitchen, grocery bag in hand.
"Mom…?" Aeliana called out. "Mom, I'm home with the groceries."
She paused as she stepped inside the room. There stood Leilani, back turned to the door as she stood over the counter. Her shoulders were slumped over. A plume of smoke rising from a lit cigarette she held in her hands. The woman remained silent as Aeliana walked towards the kitchen table, gently setting the paper bags that held the groceries down before shifting her attention towards the older woman.
"Are… Are you feeling better?" Aeliana questioned. Again, silence was her only response. It suddenly felt like her throat was getting very dry. The black-haired teenager licked her lips, before swallowing as she spoke again. "I'm… I'm sorry that took so long, the lines at the store were… they were super long…"
"Liar…" Leilani finally spoke.
"What…?"
"You fucking lying piece of trash!"
Before Aeliana could muster the courage to even speak another word, the woman spun around on her heel. She tossed something into the floor, something stiff and unmoving. At first glance, it looked like some ratty, beat-up stuffed animal. However as Aeliana knelt down to examine it, the teenager immediately recoiled in disgust. Her eyes were wide, darting from the floor to her mother and back to the floor again. It was Felix.
Tears immediately began to stream down the girl's cheeks. With shaky hands and raspy breath, the girl gently reached out to take hold of the Alolan Meowth. "F-Felix…? Hey, wake up! F-Felix!"
As her daughter cried over the sight of her cherished Pokémon, Leilani made her way towards the kitchen table. The woman grabbed hold of the grocery bag, dumping its contents onto the table. Her eyes narrowed as she spotted the cans of Pokémon food that fell from within the paper sack. All the while, the teenager brought the kitten to her chest, holding onto him tightly as if there was some chance that he would respond, or curl up against her just like he had done several hours ago. However despite her wants and wishes, Aeliana knew that this simply wasn't going to happen.
"Out of my brand,..? Out of stock?!" Leilani shouted, her hand shaking with anger as she held the can up for her daughter to see. "More lies?! You've been stealing my money, using it to do whatever the hell you wanted to, haven't you?!" Aeliana didn't answer however, the girl still sobbing hysterically. Without warning, the older woman stormed over towards her daughter and delivered a sharp kick to the girl's stomach. "Answer me when I'm talking to you!"
Aeliana hit the floor in a heap, the girl still sobbing as she cradled the Alolan Meowth to her chest. Through her tears, her mother hears something come from the child.
"What did you say…?"
More mumbling and tears followed.
"I said… what did you say?!"
Aeliana still mumbled through her crying. A look of absolute disdain graced Leilani's features. The woman lost what little bit of her temper she had left. Without warning, she gripped Aeliana by her hair, forcing her off of the floor and making her look her in the eyes.
"What did you say?!" Aeliana's mother screams.
"I… I said…'' Aeliana whispered, her eyes hardening… all before she finally shouted. "I HATE YOU!"
Before Aeliana can react, a fist is slammed into her face. The child fell back, reeling from the pain and shock of the blow that came. But she didn't care anymore. She didn't want to be here anymore. The teenager scrambled to her feet and started to run out of the kitchen. Her mother, blinded by rage, was right behind her. The woman grabbed Aeliana by the hair again, causing the teenager to scream in pain as she tried to pull herself free. The adrenaline pumping through the older woman is too much for the black-haired girl to fight back against, though. Within an instant, her mother tightened her grip on her and slammed into the hallway wall. Aeliana screams in pain as her body slammed into a mirror with enough force to cause the mirror to shatter against her form. The pain the teenager feels is horrendous as she feels the shards of glass begin to cut into her form, several pieces managing to lodge themselves into her bare shoulder.
In a fit of fury, Aeliana lifted her leg and managed to kick her mother in the knee. This took the woman by surprise, causing her grip to lessen on the girl. Aeliana took this chance to pry herself free of the woman's grasp, all before delivering another kick to quickly send her tumbling to the floor. Not a word was spoken. Not a moment of hesitation was in her brain. Aeliana merely charged for the door, quickly fumbling out of it and slamming it shut behind her, as if the door itself was some barrier to keep her mother trapped within the hellscape that was the apartment.
Thunder boomed overhead, mixing in with a bright flash of lightning. Dark storm clouds circled overhead, bringing with it a torrential downpour of rain. Aeliana didn't even seem to notice, however. The girl took off running down the stairs. She ran through the parking lot, not even giving a second look at the bike as her bare feet splashed through the puddles of water that formed in the lot from the constant rain storms of the day. The girl's brain was on autopilot as she ran to get away from everything that she hated. Before long, she found herself running straight for one location…
Po Town.
Nanu, who was busy reading a newspaper, happened to look up as another clap of thunder echoed out from the storm, sounding like a cannon being fired right outside of his door. His eyes widened as he spotted Aeliana running, but... something was wrong. He quickly tossed the paper aside, jumping out of his chair as he ran for the door.
"Aeliana!" the man shouted.
The girl paid him no mind however. He watched as she charged straight up the winding hill that led to the gates of Po Town. With no further delay, Nanu quickly bolted from the door and gave chase. He watched as the girl paid no mind to the two Skull members standing outside of the gate, the girl shoving the doors open and plowing her way into the abandoned town.
"Hey, Faye… isn't that…" one of the Skull members called out.
Faye, looked out of the window from the abandoned Pokémon Center. Her eyes widened as she spotted the beaten and battered form of Aeliana running through the street. She jolted forward, storming out of the doors just in time for the black-haired girl to spot her. Aeliana tackled herself into her arms, holding onto Faye with every fiber in her being. It was as if her older cousin was the only thing keeping her tethered to this world.
"Aeliana, what…" Faye began to ask.
"Please!" Aeliana sobbed. The teen fell to her knees, still clutching the form of Felix tightly in her arms. "Don't… Don't make me go back!"
Faye felt a lump in her throat. The sounds of her younger cousin's tears and screams reached her ears, and brought with them a burning sensation in the pit of her stomach. She looked up, spotting Nanu had finally managed to catch up. The Kahuna was dead silent, staring at the scene before him with a look of pity on his normally stoic face.
Faye looked back down at the bundled mess of a girl in her arms. She knew she couldn't send her back. She never should have sent her back. After what felt like an eternity, the Skull leader finally spoke.
"No… No, you're staying here."
Aeliana sits silently, staring out at the water. Her eyes have a distant look to them, as if the girl is suddenly a million miles away. Her Ralts never leaves her, however. Clara sits quietly beside her, letting the bluenette be the first one to make a sound.
"...I finally joined Team Skull after tha. That last time with Mom… It left scars all over my shoulder. It was Faye's idea for the tattoo to cover it," Aeliana explains quietly. "I was so proud when I first got it. It made me feel… like I was wanted. It made me feel like I finally had people that cared for me…"
Clara feels a deep sadness begin well up inside of the blue-haired girl. She isn't sure what happened to her after that. She could probably pry if she really wanted to, but the Ralts holds herself back. She feels like Aeliana has done a great deal of soul sharing already, and all she wants is for her trainer to smile again.
Slowly, Ralts raises her hand. A faint glow is starting to envelop her hand, one that catches Aeliana by surprise. Before the trainer can question the psychic Pokémon, Clara is gently pressing her hand against Aeliana's chest. The blue-haired trainer feels a gentle warmth exuding through her body, one that feels as if all of her troubles are slowly being washed away. It's hard to put into words, but… there's a feeling of relief in the trainer.
"Clara…" Aeliana says quietly. She smiles at the Pokémon. It's a small one, and it doesn't seem to be genuinely happy. That said, the Ralts can tell that the darkness that was residing within the trainer's heart is at the very least starting to fade. "Thank you."
Clara offers her trainer a beaming smile. It's a short-lived smile, though. Before either she or Aeliana can process what happens next, a bright glowing light explodes forth from the Ralts. Aeliana stares with wide eyes, watching as the Pokémon slowly begins to grow taller. Her movements become more graceful. Her once stubby hands grew to be much more elegant, and her legs which were barely enough to support her crawling were now able to support her whole body standing. Clara gazed down at her newly evolved form in amazement.
"Oh my… Clara…" Aeliana says. "You really are--"
