  • I hope there's no time limit on club joining, because I'd love to join this seemingly chillax club if I can, with White Kyurem as my guardian!

I normally would have said Black Kyurem, because while I love White's design more, I've always been more partial to Zekrom than Reshiram. I'm also of the idea that it the fused Kyu's should've changed their types to match what they're fused with. I LOVE the Electric/Ice combo, for all its 4x ground weakness, and we would've had the almost-equally amazing Fire/Ice combo in a more accessible way three generations earlier! Ah, if only we lived in the ideal world....well, maybe I should pick Black Kyurem, huh? XD

Anyway, I figure that if I'm gonna join, I should answer some of the questions, so:

-What is/are your favorite Ice Type Pokemon?
Well, kind of...all of them! Barring a choice few. Ahem. Jynx. Smoochum is on thin ice.
But so as to actually give a nice answer, I particularly love Snom, Arctozolt(My beautiful Electric/Ice!), any of the Kyurems(My beautiful Gen 5 mons!), Alolan Ninetales, and probably most unsurprisingly, Glaceon!

Have you ever used an Ice Type on any of your playthrough teams? If yes, do you remember which one it was and/or in which game?
As much as I love Ice types, it can be a pain to get them early in in most of the games, but from what I remember I had a Vanillish and a cherished little baby Cubchoo that I can't remember the name of on my Gen 5 game, and I definitely used Alolan Ninetales when I got it in Gen 7.

-Do you nickname your Pokemon? If so do you have any nicknames you use for certain Ice Type mons or do you randomly pick nicknames for them?
Yep! I try to do cold themed names for all of them, but sometimes I'll get a really weird name in my head and have to go for it(My Snivy in my most recent White run got named Smatantha. I don't know where it came from...).

-Would you like any of them to gain a new evolutions? (SwSh gave certain regional forms a new evolution, such as Mr. Rime for Galarian Mr. Mime).
I think there are a few that definitely need one, notably Cryogonal and Delibird. I'm not sure what they'd be other than hopefully interesting!

-Ice hasn't been combined with Normal or Poison yet. Additionally Ice has only been combined with Fire in a temporary form (Zen Mode Galar Darmanitan). Do you have any ideas for what an Ice Type Pokemon combined with any of these types would look like? (you can also use a new Regional form for this if you want)
I kind of chose this one since I answered it a little already, but my "idea" for a slightly-less temporary Fire/Ice is changing White Kyurem's type! While it's not quite permanent, it is a different form and it is storable outside of battle, so I think it's more than enough. As far as an Ice/Normal type, me and my friends came up with an interesting idea of an Ice/Normal type Gastly that becomes a little floating snowball with a cold aura! It works with the connecting idea of ghosts always having a chill around them. Or maybe it could be Ice/Poison to keep some of its connection and fill that slot! Other than that, I don't have a separate idea for Ice/Poison. :(

-The Unova games had seasons. Did you like this mechanic? How do you feel about the Winter season in them?

Yes. I will rant forever about how perfect, besides EXP, the Gen 5 games are.

-Do you think this is a good change? Do you prefer the location based evolutions for Ice Types such as Glaceon or the new Ice Stones?
Sadly, I think this is a good idea as a side effect of how most of the Pokemon regions are; Glaceon wasn't accessible in gen 4 until almost post game! All of the "cold" areas are very late in the game, so this change makes it actually possible to do a playthrough with Glaceon. However, I would PREFER the location based evos, just not so far into the game please!!!

-Do you have any Ice Pokemon merchandise?
I have a Glaceon BAB named Skushy. I totally meant to name it Slushy, but I mistyped while putting it in, and decided that I liked it better and would have more meaning. Other than that, I'm an avid TCG collector, so I've got mounds of beautifully designed "Ice" type cards!

-Are you using/going to use an Ice type on your team?
This was meant for BDSP, but I'm answering it for SV: and absolutely! If I can get an early Ice type, I'll take it, especially if its new!

-Are there any changes you'd like to see in the Ice type's Type match-ups? This could be defensive (for example give Ice type a new resistance) or offensive (give it a different or an extra type it's super effective against)
ABSOLUTELY. I would make Ice the third type to resist Normal, as well as Grass type. Even just adding those two would already just make Ice so much less, ironically, brittle!

-Are there any Ice type Pokemon you think could be used as a starter?
Yes! All of the 3 stage Ice types(Swinub line, Spheal line, Vanillite line) would be perfect starters in my opinion! They've all got very coherent designs that build well on each evolution and are the perfect balance of cute/cool(totally intended) to work well as starters.

Anyway, that was probably a TOTAL AVALANCHE(again, very intended) of information and questions, but I figured that if I was to make an entrance, that it should freeze you in your tracks!
Okay maybe that one was a bit of a stretch....

You have been admitted to the Glacial Gathering through your Guardian: White Kyurem.
    Welcome, Striscia La Magicienne!

    Nice mon choices!
I agree that Kyurem should change type when fused. Out of all the mons capable of fusion it's the only one that doesn't do this...

  • Spoiler:

I have attempted to make one of those 'Your Birthday determines what Pokemon you are' things, but it's an Ice types edition ofc!
I tried to stick to a 7-7-7-7-8 day rhythm, but I came up 1 day short in the first row of months, and had an extra day in the second row of months ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    Hopefully it's clearly readable =p
But just in case, the months are above and below each of the 3 sections, and each 1st day of the month has the month behind the day for extra clarity.
There's 2 vertical columns, separated by a divider line. You read it from top to bottom and then go right for the next column. The mon associated with the dates is to the right of them!
    For example: February 27, 28 & 29 + March 1, 2, 3 & 4 are all Mamoswine =3
This is my first time trying to make one of these sorts of things, so I really hope it's legible enough.

I've used RNG to assign the order the mons are in... was actually sad when I drew Glaceon so early on D=

    attachment.php

Which Pokemon did you get? =3

Personally I ended up with Galarian Darmanitan.
Not particularly enthusiastic about it, but it's a pretty strong mon so I'm alright with it.

    Spoiler:

I got Lapras which is bang on tbh! One of my favourite Pokémon that is very dear to me, and in fact was the first I ever chose to raise for VPP <3

  • Admirable time, this birthday determiner is a thing of beauty!

After looking over I believe my mon is sneasel since my birthday is on September 4th! Not bad, I like Sneasels they seem so smart, if mischievous, but fun. It's devilishly cool, probably cooler than I am, but happy with the result, and this quick on it's feet fella evolves into the powerful Weavile.

That was my result when it was determined by RNG, when it's sorted alphabetically I think I received Rotom Frost. I would have rather kept sneasel, but I'm not mad I got it, it's just funny :) All of the Rotoms forms are kinda goofballs, Frost is kinda in the middle, not the strongest or weakest. I guess it's okay.

The Pokemon I got when it was arranged by weight appears to be Abomasnow. While it's my least favorite of the three i receive, it could still be worse. Abomasnow still has a good ability snow warning, also though it's appearance goes against it, the guy seems to be a gentle giant based on the Pokedex entries and the one in XY who was trying help out. I have a friend who is an abomasnow fan, so this reminds me of her.

  • It was winter, Piplup used a water type attack, but the water froze. She was fascinated by that event and she wanted to know more about Ice types. Well, actually I am re-considering ice type pokemon a lot lately. I have always liked them but not to a very big extent. This is an occasion to know more about them and with the owner being a Glaceon lover, I am sure I'll learn a lot lol. So, yeah, as usual I am fashionably late, but I am joining!

    Spoiler:

I choose White Kyurem as my Guardian: the world of truth seems to be a world that hasn't much balance, but at the same time true valor and truth are what will always win. What an interesting ans graceful creature it is!

What is/are your favorite Ice Type Pokemon?
Froslass, Alolan Ninetales, Spheal, Walrein, Glaceon, Dewgong, Lapras, Snom, Frosmoth.

Have you ever used an Ice Type on any of your playthrough teams? If yes, do you remember which one it was and/or in which game?
Yes, I have used Forslass in Sword and in several runs in gen 4, if I recall correctly. I also used Abomasnow and Mamoswine very often. I rarely used but still tried for a short time Delibird, Jynx, Dewgong and Walrein.

I will also reply to some more answers to get a little bit more started!

What is your opinion on regional forms in general? Do you think they are a good idea or would you rather not have had them?
I wasn't a fan of them at first, but then, especially with Galarian forms I changed my mind. In gen 7 designs didn't change a lot. Funnily enough, the forms I like more are the Ice type ones lol

Do you like the Ice Type regional forms? Do you prefer them over their originals?
Yes indeed. Ninetales is amazing. with few details it changed completely. I love it and its typing. The other ones are pretty good too. Cute the idea they had with Sandshrew (that should have probably changed name)

Are there any non Ice Type mons you'd like to see as a regional Ice Type in a new gen/game?
I think some fossils could be interesting, like Bastiodon or Kabutops. Then, I would say I'd like to see some more dragon ice types. I wouldn't mind seeing a Duddrigon like that. Drampa could have been one too. Also more birds, I guess. Maybe a Tanoflame with a totally opposite design, that'd be cool (lol).

Are there any pure Ice Type Pokemon that you think should have a secondary typing? If so, which typing would that be?
I think Cryogonal could have got the Ghost or Psychic secondary type, like Beartic the fighting one. Vanilluxe, probably fairy.

Which of the Ice Type Gym Leaders / Elite Four is your favorite? This can be the design of the character or how easy/hard they are to beat (or both). Or perhaps you have another reason.
I like both Candince and Glacia!

Which of the above Ice type specialists gave you the most trouble?
Lol same answer. In my first playthrough of pokemon Diamond Candice was quite hard. I had the most trouble with Glacia, I guess. She has a good team, but especially, while she doesn't seem to be too strong, it's one of the tricky parts of the Hoenn League, where if you use too many items or if some of your pokemon die, then going on in the League becomes way harder. This happens with Ester too, but I didn't feel the same thing with other Elite Four members, to be honest.

Which Ice Puzzle did you like the most? (doesn't necessarily need to be an Ice Gym... Sootopolis for example has an Ice Puzzle, but is not an Ice gym.).

Candice's gym, which is overall one of my fav ones. It took me so much time to figure out as a child and many other children then asked me to help them out. Thanks Game Freak, I was a cool kid for once! lol

Are there any Ice type Pokemon you think could be used as a starter?
Yes, indeed! Spheal, Vanillite, Snorut, Swinub!

Are there any creatures from mythology you think would make for a good Ice type Pokemon? (that haven't already been used)
I want to start from this question to open a wider topic of discussion. I think that Game Freak should give more honor to Ice types. Like, they should be seen as mystical creatures that you can find in a very snowy part of the region, almost like an illusion or something, In general, Ice types are not so good for their typing and that's why Game Freak should probably work more on giving them a mystery and unique aspect and focus on their lore. I mean, Froslass kinda got that spirit. Making them mysterious would make them a lot more interesting. Psychic types kinda get that, take as an example Claydol, Bronzong, Solrock and Lunatone. Very cool indeed. Or maybe, continuing on the line of extremely rare creatures that were said to maybe exist but people don't believe they do. As for mythology, I can't really give names, I'd say BigFoot maybe (there's not really a pokemon resembling it at all) and the prehistorical tiger but I can't rember the name (sorry). In general, Game Freak seems to take inspiration from animals, so the Tiger would be pretty nice! I would also love to see an ice type Snake, maybe poison/ice!

Fabulous favorites and no stranger to using Ice types I see =3
I only recently used an Abomasnow for the first time myself, in SP. Despite it's many weaknesses it actually put in quite good work on my team =3

  • These are really long overdue, but I have finally finished making the Ice Types Tier Lists, ranked by contest ranks and categories!
I gathered everyone's rankings and added them up and then divided them by the amount of people who ranked them to average them, since certain mons were ranked by more people than other mons. The images are quite big, so probably better to view them on a computer!

Some info to help reading these:
-Within each rank there are multiple horizontal rows, which should be self explanatory, the higher within the category, the higher their average score was.
-If mons had the same average, I put them next to each other in PokeDex order; so if there's barely a gap between them they have the same average score.
-There is always a small gap between mons, but when there's a gap big enough to fit a mon's image between two mons on the same horizontal row (such as for example between Glaceon/Ice Rider Calyrex and Walrein on the Cool Category's Hyper Rank), it means they have a different average score. The mon(s) on the left before the gap have a higher average then those after the gap on the right.

    First up, the Beauty Category:
    Spoiler:

    Secondly, the Clever Category:
    Spoiler:

    The Cool Category:
    Spoiler:

    The Cute Category:
    Spoiler:

    The Tough Category:
    Spoiler:

    Some standouts:
-In the Beauty category, the entire top row (Alolan Ninetales, Lapras, Articuno, Glaceon and Froslass) all had a Perfect Score where everyone ranked them Master Rank!
-In the Cute category, the entire top row (Alolan Vulpix, Cubchoo, Snom) all had a Perfect Score where everyone ranked them Master Rank!

-In the Beauty category the entire bottom row (Galarian Mr. Mime, Glalie, Abomasnow, Galarian Darmanitan, Crabominable, Mr. Rime) all had the lowest possible score with everyone ranking them Normal Rank.
-In the Cool category Jynx was the only one to receive the lowest possible score with everyone ranking her Normal Rank.
-In the Cute category the entire bottom row (Galarian Mr. Mime, Jynx, Glalie, Abomasnow, Cryogonal, Crabominable, Mr. Rime) all had the lowest possible score with everyone ranking them Normal Rank.

-Clever is the category with the least amount of mons in Master Rank with only 3 mons.
-Cute & Beauty have the highest amount of mons in Master Rank at 8 mons.

-Cool is the category with the least amount of mons in Normal Rank with only 3 mons.
-Beauty is the category with the highest amount of mons in Normal rank with 17 mons.

  • How do you feel about the Ice themed held items? Which of these have you used, if any? (Snowball, Icy Rock, Ice Gem, Never-Melt Ice)

What is your go-to held item when you use an Ice type Pokemon on your team? (does not have to be an Ice themed item)

I think that ice items have very few availability and, in general, are not a lot. So yeah, I have never used any of those, but what I can say is that they all have a good design imo lol.

As for the second question, as I said I haven't used any. I tend to rarely give items to my pokemon team, so yeah. In general, I would find pretty useful to give Never-Melt Ice to a pokemon of mine.

Rarely use them if ever. The one time I had a true Ice type team member was Abomasnow in Gen 4, where Snowball & Ice Gem didn't even exist yet I think, and Icy Rock wouldn't even make sense bcs of Snow Warning perma hail. So yeah they either just take up a slot in my bag or I sell them down the line for extra moolah.

Similar with my go-to's for other types: an HP or status healing Berry. I'm a simple guy.

I hardly used most of them, but Never-Melt Ice is actually one of my favorite items based on name/idea. It's really cool to have an unmelting piece of ice and it must be very pretty.

What is your go-to held item when you use an Ice type Pokemon on your team?
Usually plates or type-boosting items. This is my go-to for most of my mons, actually! Gotta give love to the Quick Claw for slower ice types like Frosmoth and Glaceon too.

  • I pretty much only use Never-Melt Ice. Used to like putting it on non-Ice-types too, like Milotic and Nidoqueen, in attempt to turn them into pseudo-Ice-types. Of course, we'll be able to do this more properly in the upcoming games!

I only ever bothered with the Never-Melt Ice. I actually didn't even remember that there was another ice themed held item. ^^"
It's also the only item I've ever used.

What is your go-to held item when you use an Ice type Pokemon on your team?
I don't really use the Never-Melt Ice that much unless I want to give the Ice Type moves some extra power. Actually, it may be a lot more frequent than I remember because a lot of Ice Types I used kinda lacked a little in terms of their move pool. When a lot of moves end up Ice typed then it does feel worth using, I guess.
I guess it is more of a held item problem? I like using move boosting items but if I don't have any left and leftovers aren't available, as well, I might not even use an item.

We sure could use some interesting new items that are actually worth using ingame...

Arceus and Silvally are two Normal type Pokemon that can become any type, including Ice type.
Arceus needs to be holding it's Plates to change type and Silvally it's Memory Discs. Both have some minor appearance changes based on the type they are.

Do you like this sort of mechanic where a Pokemon can change type depending on it's held item?
Do you like the small visual changes that are made to the Pokemon when it's in a different type, or would you have preferred bigger differences?

To go back to Ice type held items and piggybacking off of Megan's comment:

Do you have any ideas for a new held item for Ice types?

I like it even if it's not the most interesting thing since it's been done a few times. Ice is usually one of my favorites cause of the color too. \o/

I like the changes but more visual differences would have been A+ - I actually feel weird that I've never thought about that until now. Maybe just a little difference at the Pokémon's feet, like an aura of little snowflakes (ice), lightning bolts (electric), magnets (steel) etc would be enough!

Do you have any ideas for a new held item for Ice types?
Ice Sheet - Further reduces the temperature of an ice-type Pokémon. Making contact with an ice-type Pokémon holding this item may result in a freeze (10% chance).

Probably broken but a little boost to ice types' already low defense would be cool!

  • I found an interesting work of fan art on Reddit. The concept is for Vanilluxe in different flavors. It's not only a color change like the different Alcremie has, but it would be functional more like the Rotom forms, with each flavor gaining a new dual typing.

Which ice cream cone Vanilluxe would you most want to collect/use, ice Pokémon fans? It could be the aesthetics that you like, or maybe the type combination that would make you want to use. Maybe you could even make a theme team of different flavors or collect them all like the different vivillion patterns?

  • Do you like this sort of mechanic where a Pokemon can change type depending on it's held item?
Sure. Although I think I'd prefer it ADDING that type instead of completely changing it, if applied to other Pokémon.

Do you like the small visual changes that are made to the Pokemon when it's in a different type, or would you have preferred bigger differences?
I'm fine with Arceus, but Silvally could've used a little something extra.

Do you have any ideas for a new held item for Ice types?
Something that just came to mind: Insulating Scarf. Raises a Pokémon's Sp. Def. When held by a Fire- or Ice-type, it also reduces loss of Sp. Atk. Or something like that. I may have had other ideas before, but none are coming to mind atm.

Aesthetically, strawberry for sure. This is what its official Shiny should've looked like.

Here's my own Vanilluxe variation though. I loves me some peanut butter ice cream! I tried to make the ice look like graham cracker crust so that it can double as a reference to peanut butter pie. This one could also be Ice/Ground since peanuts grow underground—and graham cracker crumbs look like sand, so...

There's a bunch of flavors in this that I've never even heard of, as well as a bunch I have heard of, but just never tried. Flavor wise I'd just go with ones I like: Strawberry, Banana & Vanilla.
Typing wise: Red Velvet, Banana, Ube, Honey Lavender, Strawberry.

I'd potentially collect them, if the change is permanent like with Vivillon. If it's more like Furfrou, where it disappears after a set amount of time, I wouldn't bother.

Welp I didn't answer my own prompt last time xD

  • Banana, red velvet, and rocky road look amazingly delicious! If I had to pick one then it's usually banana... yum yum. Sorry ice cream cone you're not a living being so I won't feel too guilty!

  • So far only one Ice type has been revealed officially for gen 9: Cetitan.

    Do you like the design?
Any thoughts on it? Do you think it's fully evolved/has a previous form, or do you think it is a single stage Pokemon or maybe even the previous form to something else?

Additionally, we haven't seen the Ice type Terra Crown yet. What do you think/expect it will look like?
