    APOLLO
    A Journey of the Gifted
spiritual successor to PANDORA: A Journey of the Fallen
    IC THREAD / OOC THREAD
    Current Time of Day: Afternoon

It's been eight weeks since Dr. Arden Stone's message. After a tedious, three day long ferry ride, you finally make it to Apollo with the other journey-goers. You may have gotten to know them along the way, you may have ignored them the entire time; it's all up to you.

Now that you're on Apollo, you can understand what the stories from your childhood and Dr. Stone meant: dense forests can be seen outside the village and the whole atmosphere of this place just feels a whole lot different from home. Cleaner? Perhaps the urban air is getting to us all much. It matters not at the moment since we've made port at Beachcliffe Village!

  • Sean and Cody: Film Extraordinaires! -- Beachcliffe
    camera.png

The ferry ride was slow, and at times, deathly boring, but Sean managed to enjoy it nonetheless. The trip itself was exciting, though Sean himself was unsure whether he was eager to see the island or use his new equipment. True to her word, Jacobi provided Sean with an all new camera, computer, and actual editing programs. Since it would be more than a little cumbersome to carry an entire computer around, Jacobi let him keep the big monitor at home for later editing, and let him keep a laptop for small stuff. The laptop didn't have the topnotch program the desktop back home did. It was mostly for saving video files and allocating his work so he could be a little more organized. The camera he had was the main gift, the biggest one of all. Having that thing was too good to be true, he felt like a camera man for a real movie or those guys that follow around wildlife experts on Pokemon Planet. Either way, he loved it and he wasted no time using it.

Being confined to the boat, he made use of his time there. With his Espurr in tow (another gift from Jacobi) he made his first films. His first film was an introduction of the journey: Apollo, adventure of a lifetime! That was his opening title. He introduced himself, his Espurr, and then made a tour of the ferry, more than once going places he shouldn't. When the fuel for that was up, he talked to the the other people chosen by Jacobi. Whoever would talk to him, he'd interview for the video. "What are you here for?" He'd ask them, among other things. It was obvious treasure would be one of the answers, but something else? That's what he was looking for. As cool as it was, Sean himself wasn't interested in finding the gold first, the camera was treasure enough. The interviews Sean considered a success, despite any rejections he may have gotten. Along the way he made friends, found out who he liked, and found out who he didn't. Sean's feelings for the others ranged from "really cool person" to "stupid *******." However he felt about each, he considered the group overall to be satisfying. Hopefully he wouldn't lose them in the bigness of Apollo.

At the end of the three days, they made it to Apollo and Sean was sure everyone was excited as he was. Camera in hand, he and his Espurr were the first off the boat. "Beachcliffe!" Sean exclaimed on the shore. "Our first stop in Apollo! What do you think, Cody?" He asked his pokemon, turning the camera to her. As usual, Cody was stoic. She stared out at Beachcliffe as if she were taking in the scenery, but if you looked in her eyes they were unfocused as ever. Sean shuddered, he hated it when she was like that and he wondered why Jacobi had given him such a creepy pokemon. He wasn't ungrateful, but wow. "Cody!" He called again, louder this time, as he seemed to often have to do. Cody jolted out of her daze and then looked at him, tilting her head and placing a paw by her mouth in question. "I said what do you think?" The pokemon looked back out at Beachcliffe, this time actually noticing the scenery around her. She lifted her hands in the air and exclaimed her own species name.

"Espurr!" Her voice was high and light and cute if you looked passed the staring thing. Her expression was still emotionless, but he took her actions as a sign of approval. She thrust her paws out ahead of her and cried again. "Espurr!" She called, pointing at something in the air. Sean searched the sky before he found the source. Wingull. They flew high in the air and perched on rooftops, looking content with their current activities.

"Those are Wingull!" Sean told her, filming the birds up ahead. "You want to see one up close?"

"Espurr!" She lifted her hands in the air again and did a little jump. He'd also take that as a yes.

"We'll probably find some more down the beach! And maybe some people to talk to." Sean adjusted his knapsack's strap on his shoulder and jumped down the side of the dock rather than just walk off of it. Helping Cody down, he started down Beachcliffe's shoreline, resigned to look at the village sometime later. Cody walked a foot or two behind him, legs too short to keep pace and not entirely interested in running anywhere. Sean by now was used to her lagging distance. Even when he ran, Cody continued to walk. At first he was afraid he'd lose her or she'd get lost or something, but somehow she always knew where to find him. Probably to do with that psychic thing? Sean didn't know, and when he asked himself the first time he just shrugged his shoulder, he was no scientist and he wasn't trying to be one. He was a cinematographer. And man, was he going to be a damn good one.

Anise stared in awe from the deck of her ship as it approached Beachcliffe's harbor. She had finally reached Apollo. The place was already so different from Goldenrod. The air was fresh, the flora was different, and the buildings were short and mostly made with wood and stone. There weren't any gigantic metal radio towers or high rises that she was so used to seeing on her day to day. It was a really nice change of pace for the young girl.

With a refreshing deep breath, the girl looked over to her new pokemon perched next to her on the railing of the boat near Anise.

"We're here little guy." The girl smiled while patting on the bird's head. The swablu chirped lazily, almost disinterested.

"Guess I should get around to giving you a nickname, huh?"

She looked at the fluffy cloud like plumage of the flying type and then up towards the distant clouds over the sea. She quietly though to herself Clouds have names of their own don't they? Some scientific name like Cumulus or Columbus? Pretty sure they had prefixes for the specific type . . . Bah whatever, I have a name.

"What do you think about Stratos? "

The swablu glared over and gave a chirp. It didn't seem to have any problems. The girl smiled while hugging the pokemon. The bird struggled with displeasure.

    ______

The two eventually left the ship to walk along the shore of the town. Mindlessly, the girl wondered around the beach, unsure of how to begin her quest. Enjoying the novel scenery the girl eventually decided that it would be wisest to go to the local market to pick up supplies as well as gather some information on the mysteries of Apollo.

Nervously the girl found herself in speaking to a merchant. After a little talking, the girl bought some rations (-100P) for her trip. In addition He had a few items for sale that piqued the girl's interest.

"How do these Sols work anyways?"

The girl figured this would be a good place to start her inquiry on the region. Jacobi had given her a Sol of Hebe, but hadn't bothered explaining the significant of these mysterious beads.

"Oh and tell me about that glyph and that mysterious rock too if you don't mind."

    Anise gained: 1x Ration!

As the ferry approached Apollo, Barry laid asleep in the sun, with his new Buizel (a gift from Professor Jacobi Hazel) curled up in his lap. The ferry ride was extremely boring and he really wanted some sleep before they landed in the new region.

Just as Apollo appeared to be about ten minutes away from the ferry, Barry woke up. Yawning, he patted Buizel on his head, saying "Hey buddy, it's time to wake up. We're almost there."

    ----------

Soon, the two left the ferry to officially enter Apollo. Barry continuously looked around Beachcliffe Village while Buizel played in the ocean. For a newly discovered region, this place grew fast, he thought. He sat down on the beach for a few minutes as he watched Buizel play.

After that, the two decided to head into the market. He took a look around and saw many interesting things. The merchants all had some strange items. He allready had the vital things; Poké Balls, Potions, and a Pokédex, but he felt like grabbing something else here.

He decided on a few things to buy, but a girl beat her to the merchant. After she bought some Rations, she asked the merchant to explain a few things. To be specific; Sols, a glyph, amd a mysterious stone. Barry decided to stick around, as he also wanted to know.

Timothy- Day 1 Morning -Beachciffe Village
    Preparations
Tim couldn't believe he was here. Stepping off of the ship and into the broad daylight, he cringed, the sun tearing his eyes apart. He blinked for a few seconds, his eyes adjusting to the searing brightness. He shook his head, and a wondrous sight met his eyes, which had just adjusted fully. The most lush landscape Tim had ever seen. There were lush forests on all sides of the town. He took in a deep breath admiring the fresh air. The air was even better here than in the middle of prosperity spring, and the air there was supposedly the cleanest air anywhere on the globe.

Okay, first thing's first. Time to get some supplies and possible clues on where to look. The bustling market was perfect, merchant heard things, and sometimes they could acquire the strangest items. But anything here would be welcome. There was also his new Pokemon he had acquired to think about. What had Heather gotten him? Oh yes- a Darumaka. It was okay. He would have preferred something along the lines of a Zigazagoon, but Heather hadn't actually seen him for five years when she called him, and his likings had certainly changed since then.

Anyways, he was getting off track, time for him to investigate, a few people had gotten ahead of him in his reverie, and that was a no no. Walking down the dock, Tim scanned the merchant's stalls looking for an appealing one. One which had some interesting items in the front was already taken by somebody
he had seen on the ship, no use waiting in line. Then his eyes locked onto a merchant who was wearing a vibrant red, yellow, and orange colored dress looking thing. Tim walked up to her and stood for an instant at she was moving something beneath her stand. While he was waiting Tim took the opportunity to scour her stand for interesting items.

She had a few cans of water, some disgusting looking rations, a small strange looking rock, a glyph made of stone with something scrawled on it, and the basic things any Pokemart has, Pokeballs, Potions, and Repels. She carried something out from her stand, a strange looking bracelet, similar to the one on his wrist, which Heather had given to him. She had called it a Sol. The lady saw him and placed the bracelet down saying, "How can I help you?"

"Oh, I'm just browsing for now. I was just wondering, what is the deal with these Sols? Also. I noticed you have this- interesting glyph here," He motioned
to the glyph, "What is the backstory on that? One other thing I was interested in is this rock." Tim waited for his answer, hopefully, being a resident of here, she knew a bit more than he.

    Day 1 Chapter 1.1: Morning

    Anise Briar
"Ah, Sols!" The merchant smiled, his eyes falling on the bead on the girl's bracelet. "Yes, they are a mysterious thing. I don't know much, but I've heard people say they can... kind of give you special abilities. Kind of. Like, some can make you lucky or somehow make people like you better. I even heard a traveller say he saw someone shoot fireballs from his mouth. I'm a bit sceptical, honestly, but you never know. There's apparently an 'appraiser'," the merchant airquoted the word appraiser with a hint of sarcasm added on to it, "in the next town over, so he might tell you what yours can do."

"Oh, and tell me about that glyph and that mysterious rock too if you don't mind."

"Ah yes!" he picked up the glyph and the rock, studying them himself. "A traveller sold me these, he looked like an unseasoned trainer. A bit like you." The man gave a chuckle. "He said that the rock came from the cave in the cliff. It's rather mysterious, isn't it?" He gave Anise a better look at the stone. It was an odd colour, with swirls of blue and red and white. "He said he found it at the dead end near an odd wall but he was attacked so he ran away. Little scaredy cat."

"And the glyph!" He picked that up and showed that to Anise too. "That was from another traveller, a bit greener than the last guy. Found it in the next route over. Not sure what it does though." He gave a shrug. It was an odd symbol. Like a cross with circles on it. "Maybe it gives you magic powers! Imagine that!" He let out another boomy laugh.

    "Anything pique your interest then?"

    Timothy Stern
The lady was about to open her mouth to answer the young traveller's question but her partner beside her had already answered the question to another traveller, looking just as fresh and off the boat as he did. It was lovely to see the new ones coming into shore, as they brought potential for new wares and money to buy her others! She smiled and gestured to the merchant beside her.

"It seems my partner here has already answered your question! Was there anything else you needed, deary? Food? Supplies? It can get dangerous out there, even during the day!"

    Benjamin Whistler
Benjamin stumbled off the boat once they were allowed to disembark. Three days on a boat had made him rather queasy (though, thankfully, he had managed to hang onto his stomach the entire time) and once he had finally gotten used to the sway of the sea, he was now expected to find his land legs again. He pulled out his journal, trying ever so hard not to throw up onto it.

"Finally made it to shore. Boats are now my least favourite way to travel and I hope when the time comes, there'll be another way to get off Apollo. Perhaps Elenore will be strong enough to take me back."

Elenore, affectionately named Ellie from time to time, was what he had called his new Pokémon companion. She, unlike her trainer, enjoyed the sea air and had spent a great deal of the three days perched on one of the railings. She had a much better time attuning herself to the study ground, perching herself on Benjamin's shoulder and chirping happily. He had taken a few photos of just her, her red feathers complimenting the deep blue of the sea so stunningly!

His first stop? The marketplace. It seemed a few of his fellow travellers had made their way there so he eagerly stumbled his way over there, camera in hand and journal in the other. It seemed they had been curious enough to ask the 'locals' some questions, which Ben wrote the answers to down furiously in his note book. Appraiser in the next town? He would be a great person to interview!

"Excuse me, p-please! Ms. Briar? Mr. Lorantos? Mr. Stern? May I get, may I get a photo of you all with the merchants here?" He held up his camera, smiling at them. Ellie added a small, encouraging squark.

  • October Carter -
    231.gif

The fog parted before the bow of the ship as October stood out front on the bow of the ship, arms wrapped around her body as the cold water particles in the air brought goosebumps to her skin. The small, blue elephantine calf curled up between her legs; its trunk resting on October's hiking boot as it lay in a ball. She could hear small squeaking sounds coming from the Phanpy's trunk that seemed almost twice as loud in the still night air. For two days they had been stuck aboard the ship bound for Apollo with a collection of losers whom she didn't expect to last long on the island. As much as she looked down on them, October hadn't even attempted to make conversation with even one of them. Deep down she knew that she could easily outlast anyone of them with her experience at hand but was still fearful of screwing up badly on the island. Ahead she could see the vague outline of Apollo sitting in the distance, the fog obscuring everything but the dark, foreboding shape. She could feel the fog thin around her as they moved closer to the island, but it would still be another couple of hours before they could make it ashore. Looking up she gazed longingly at the stars which shone; many different constellations than the ones back home in Vermillion. Feeling the light of the moon on her back, October closed her eyes and listened to the gentle lapping of waves against the bow of the ship. This was where she really felt alive; on an adventure.

The morning light hit October just as a jet of water pummelled into her face, the happy tooting of her Phanpy bouncing on the deck in front of her ringing in her ears. Looking around she realised she had fallen asleep on the bow of the ship, the gentle stationary rocking of the boat a sign they had docked at last. Getting to her feet, she gathered her belongings that lay carelessly beside her and proceeded to follow the others of the ship. With Phanpy hot on her heels, the two of them made their way ashore across a rickety wooden pier that looked like it was under much disrepair. Once they got closer to the shore, Phanpy decided to leap off the pier, splashing into the shallow water as they waves gently pushed her small body to shore.

Bringing her palm to her face in embarrassment, October could only watch as the quirky Phanpy played excitedly in the water, running away from the incoming waves, and then chasing them back into the ocean as they receded. As much as she was serious about the journey they were on, she couldn't help but let out a little giggle at the craziness of her Pokémon. When she got ashore, Phanpy joined her in a gleeful bound, splashing water as she raced up to meet her owner. Smirking at the blue elephant, she continued past the group of other explores stupidly posing for a photo and onto one of the stalls a few down.

"What can I do yer for, missy?" the old man reeked of body odour, causing October to scrunch up her nose in disgust, several of his teeth were missing and his old skin looked like parchment as if he had been in the sun too much.

"I, err," she stalled, losing her focus on what she had decided to buy after meeting the rather horrible looking man, "uh, three Rations, two Fresh Water and a Potion, thanks." She ordered, handing the man over his sum of cash as she accepted the supplies with the other. Her Phanpy tooted happily beside her as they made their way out of the stall, October taking in a large gulp of fresh air.

"I guess I should give you a name after all," she spoke down to the Phanpy as she casually walked north through the town, passing the plentiful stalls that seemed to hug the main street. The Phanpy simply looked up at her quizzically as it padded along beside her, it's trunk help up in the air as not to breathe in the sand they walked on.

"How about… Oakley?" she asked the Phanpy as if it spoke English, but as soon as she said the name, it tooted angrily at her and stomped its tiny feet, "Yeah, who would ever want such a name…" she trailed off, trying to think of another name to call Phanpy as the stalls began to thin out and the ground became much rougher terrain.

"April, has a nice ring to it," this time Phanpy tooted happily, joyfully galloping around October's feet almost tripping her up. Finally glad to have named the Pokémon before they ventured further into their adventure, October came to the edge of the forest that lined the northern edge of the town. A small sign sat just off to the left of the path, directing travellers to the next town beyond the forested path.

"Let's go, April!" October said as she took her first step onto the new route, wary of what kind of trouble they would be getting themselves into on this adventure of Jacobi's.

After listening to the merchant go on Anise returned the glyph to the old man, completely disinterested in the object. She created a mental list of the options the merchant had just opened for her.

    • Buy a sol from the merchant. Find the appraiser and appraise her sol to learn its possible powers.
    • Buy the pretty rock. Explore the nearby cave and learn about the mystery behind the pretty rock.
    • Try and pick up magic from the unusual glyph.

Anise sat in thought for a moment, letting her mind draw out a few scenarios. As she briefly looked at the colorful stone, she came to realize a few people had come by to eavesdrop on her conversation with the merchant, with that noted she came to a conclusion.

"Hey if I happened to go to that cave and bring some more of those stones out, how much do you think they'd sell for?"

She prepared for an answer, but was quickly interrupted by the call of her surname, among others.

"Excuse me, p-please! Ms. Briar? Mr. Lorantos? Mr. Stern? May I get, may I get a photo of you all with the merchants here?" He held up his camera, smiling at them. Ellie added a small, encouraging squark.

She turned to the somewhat familiar figure. With a little difficult she tried to recall his name.

"Oh uh, sure . . . Whistler was it?" Anise didn't really bother to befriend anyone on the boat, something a little outside of her usual mannerisms. She spent most of the time trying to get to know her own pokemon not giving too much mind to her competition. The only reason he remembered the person's name is due to the easy association. Probably a bad move on her part, thinking back.

"I don't really have any problem with taking a picture, can't speak for the rest of the people here."

Anise soon realized that the other's that gathered were from the same ship she was on. She really felt bad about her antisocial behavior on the trip here. While waiting for them to respond, she tried to match the faces with names.

Beachcliffe Village- The dream starts here!
    Prop_Gorgeous_Flower_Sprite.png
Three days had passed since Yukari's big adventure started and the girl could barely contain her excitement anymore as the morning sun of the third day shone brightly over the marvellous land before them. The boat trip hadn't been easy for her, being her first time out at sea, but she enjoyed it. She had spent most of it playing with Yume, the adorable Misdreavus Professor Jacobi had given her and observing all the other travellers and their Pokémon from afar, waiting for an opportunity to interact with them. She was too shy to make the first move. She always had been.

As the ferry reached the docks of Beachcliffe Village, Yukari's big, green eyes started sparkling and a wide smile appeared on her face at the sight of the beautiful village. She quickly scouted her surroundings and couldn't help but hug Yume tight and say:

"Look, Yume, look! Aren't those houses just SO pretty?!? And look at those lovely flowerbeds too! And the colourful tents! We're going to have so much fun here!"

Her Misdreavus looked up at her new trainer, confusion lurking in her big, red eyes. She was as excited as her trainer, but that was the first time she was hearing the nickname Yukari had picked for her. The Pokémon let out a cry, expressing her confusion.

"Oh! I'm sorry!" Yukari said, then she giggled. "I just thought you'd like this nickname, that's all…" she went on then paused. She let go of her Pokémon and looked her up and down, as the adorable creature before her looked back curiously. "I probably should have told you." The girl finally drew the conclusion.

Yume smiled and softly nudged her trainer's shoulder, as she let out a cry that seemed like laughter. She then clinged to her trainer's shoulder, waiting patiently.

Yukari softly stroke her Pokémon's cheek, then grabbed her backpack and hopped off the ship onto the wooden deck. Thinking of the journey ahead of them, she decided to stock up before leaving, so she headed for the marketplace. She stopped a few meters away from a tent, waiting her turn while curiously eavesdropping as a really cute-looking girl, accompanied by a pretty Swablu was asking questions about the strange beads everyone seemed to have, called "Sols" and about some of the merchandise he had for sale.

Suddenly, a nerdy-looking guy with a camera approached some of the others from the boat, that happened to wait in line at the merchant. He kindly asked to take a picture of them. Luckily, Yukari was a few steps behind the boy so she didn't have to put up too much effort to avoid a group photo. She was content with simply observing the others from afar for now.

As the line in front of her was slowly starting to shrink, people having bought what they were after already, the girl stepped up at the counter and looked around curiously. Close by, she noticed a really tall(well, everyone seemed really tall for her actually), beautiful girl with a Phanpy, talking to a merchant nearby. For some reason, this girl scared Yukari, but intrigued her at the same time so she had a hard time taking her eyes off this stranger that had been on the boat with her and the others.

"Uhm… miss? May I help you?" the clerk's voice snapped the girl out of her seemingly trance state.

"Oh… oh yes! I'm really sorry." Yukari said and her cheeks picked up a soft, rosy tint. "I'll take two of those Fresh Water, two Potions and two Rations please. Does that seem too much?" she looked over at her Misdreavus worriedly.

"Dreavus."her Pokémon replied, softly shaking her head.

The girl sighed in relief then started searching her belt pockets for her money. She then handed over the money required for her purchase and smiled as she picked up her things and stepped aside to place everything neatly in her backpack. While doing so, she suddenly had an idea and smiled happily as she returned to the merchant and asked in her usual sweet manner:

"Excuse me, do you have any idea where I could buy a book, a notebook or anything good enough for a Journal? I don't want to miss a thing from this journey!"

    Day 1 Chapter 1.2: Morning

    Anise Briar
"Hm." The merchant rubbed his unshaven chin. "Well, I'm selling this one for 800P so... Well, I'm not sure, actually. I wouldn't buy anymore if I didn't know what they did exactly. It could just be a pretty rock. You look like you're in need of an adventure and I'm feeling generous, so I'll tell you what. If you buy this one and go find out what it does and you find more, I'll pay double this," he held up the rock, "for everything. If you don't find out anything, no harm done and I'll give you your money back. How does that sound?"

    Yukari Shimazaki
"Why yes!" The merchant smiled, disappearing behind her table and reappearing with a thick, bounded book. "I've got one right here! I was going to be an explorer like yourself and write down all the adventures I had in Apollo but I was much too scared to leave this route, especially without a Pokémon." The lady opened her mouth, about to state her price when suddenly she got an idea.

"You seem like a strong trainer? How about you do me a favour? I'll give you this journal for free, plus a bit of compensation if you can go catch a Pokémon for me! Any ol' Pokémon, I don't mind. I'll even give you a PokéBall to catch it with! Would you be able to do that for me?"

  • Akira Johnson - Beachcliffe Preparations

Akira stepped off the Ferry, and stretched her arms and legs. She stepped forward, and watched Bon-Bon wobble around. Bending over, she scooped the Bonsly in her arms, and observed the island. There were cliffs, houses, and merchant stalls. She walked forward, and decided to try and talk to them. She walked over to the first stall, and smiled as Bonsly made a soft cry. She let the Pokèmon wiggle playfully in her arms. She fiddled with the l-black leather belt around her waist with on hand, and hek-ld Bon-Bon in the other. She looked over the merchandise, and decided to make at least some kind small talk. She looks at the items, eyeing them intently, and began to speak.

    "Hello." She said kindly.

"Welcome! Take a look at the fine wares I have." The merchant replied.

"Thank you. I need a potion, a pokèball, rations, and a fresh water please." Akira asked. The merchant gave her the items, and she gave the merchant the money. She gave the man a happy look, and began to make some chit chat. "Where would be a good place to train?" She asked, adding "For training Pokèmon" later.

"There's a cliffe to the west of here." The merchant replied.

Akira moved on, and decided to try the cave, not knowing what to do, Akira removed her PokèDex after setting bonsly down and reading it. "Alright. It's time to train Bon-Bon." She called, running ahead with Bon-Bon close behind her.

  • Akane Kojima - Beachcliffe Village

"I can't believe I'm late!" Shouted Akane as she scrambled around her cabin, trying to change into decent clothes. Slipping a pair of jean shorts up over her waist, she snatched the bag from Dr. Jacobi off of the floor. "I hope this has everything I need." She said nervously as she ran out the door.

Climbing a short flight of stairs that lead to the top deck, Akane brushed away some unkempt hair from out of her eyes. I didn't even have time to pin up my hair! she thought, exasperated. She had over slept and now all the other trainers had a head start on her!

Akane took in a long breath of salty sea air as she reached the top of the stairs and stepped up onto the sunny deck. The calming sound of waves lazily resonated through the air as Wingulls cried in the distance. At that moment Akane rounded the stern of the boat and got her first look at the land known as Apollo. The view from the boat was spectacular. White sand beaches lined the coast and thick vegetation sprinkled with rocky outcroppings filled her vision on the left and right. Front and center, stood Beachcliffe Village, the first stop in Apollo.

The small town had been built out of the side of a steep, rocky drop off. "I guess they don't call it Beachcliffe for nothing." Akane said, shrugging her shoulders. Quickly, she descended the gangplank and stepped onto a long, narrow boardwalk which lead into what looked like a marketplace. The heels of her boots clicked in stride as she walked along the wooden boards.

"I wonder if the locals around here would know the best place to start my journey?" Akane asked herself. "It never hurts to get help from someone who knows the area."

She walked up to one of the vending stalls. "Excuse me, I just arrived here on the boat this morning. I was wondering what lays beyond this town?" She asked inquisitively.

Akane knew she sounded rather amateur asking such questions, but she didn't want to go running head first into something she wasn't prepared for.

    Anselme Gwenaël Ducreux
    Boat > Cliffside Cave

Crisp, salty sea air surrounded the well-funded vessel that was shipping the new and renewed adventurers to Apollo. Wingull and the occasional Pelipper flew overhead, and Mantine skimmed the sea's surface alongside the ferry. However, Anselme didn't experience any of it. The reluctant newbie had spent entire journey in his room deep within the ship, only leaving it when he really needed to. It wasn't the same as his flat, but at least here he wasn't troubled with paying for rent or meals. The ship was full of aspiring young start-ups and seasoned travellers alike, 'broke loser grown man with no experience' being the minority. He didn't really care about the other people too much, though. As long as they didn't bug him, it was all good. Unfortunately, there was one dude with a big camera who didn't get the memo that the shut-in who always had his earphones in didn't want to be bothered. He promptly told him to go away.

Besides the people, the boat was also filled with Pokemon. Dr. Jacobi had given everyone their own new Pokemon, so Anselme's music became essential for drowning out the noise from the rampant battles and Pokemon cries. Sure he had gotten his own Pokemon as well, but it hadn't seen the outside of its ball since it was given to him. He figured he wouldn't be able to relax properly with a little superpowered rat or cat or whatever running around. He knew that he would have let it out eventually and start training it, but that was a worry for another time, specifically when they were at the island where he actually needed the Pokemon.

Three days seemed like a long time, but it passed by very quickly in Anselme's state of bliss. Once he felt the boat stop, he reluctantly opened his eyes, then closed them again. Just five more minutes,,,

Passengers, we have arrived on the shore of Apollo. We recommend you depart the ship as quickly as you can onto Beachcliffe Village and begin your expedition. The ship will be departing again soon.

Well, there went his five minutes. Anselme didn't plan on quitting before he even started (he wasn't that much of a loser), so he decided he should probably get off before the boat left Apollo. Sure, it wasn't going to leave immediately, but he knew very well how those five minutes could easily turn into five hours. And so, after a deep sigh, Anselme finally got up from his cot and slinked his way off the boat. He really didn't want to abandon such a wonderful place, but there was nothing he could do about it. Figuring he might as well be doing something he liked, he put one of his cigarettes into his mouth and lit it, taking a long drag of smoke before he stepped out onto the deck and let it all out in the open.

So far, Apollo was exactly what he thought it would be like. Trees everywhere, rickety wooden houses, flimsy stands selling rocks, and all that tropical paradise crap. While he could appreciate the fresh air and natural beauty and all that, honestly he was just glad there was at least a proper pokemon center. The other passengers of the boat rushed into their first Apollonian town excitedly, shopping, taking pictures, and other touristy things. It didn't exactly look like an archaeology expedition right now. He did notice some people get started right away by going directly ahead, past the village. He figured they probably got invited by Jacobi directly rather than second-hand like himself.

After inhaling another lungsful of smoke, he figured that now was as good a time as ever to see what he had gotten as a starter pokemon. Anselme grabbed the pokeball that rested in his pocket and tossed it on the ground in front of him where it opened to reveal a… He swore he had seen the thing before, but he couldn't remember its name. Things like the ever-popular Pikachu or the Espurr that ran all over Lumiose's alleys were easy, but try as he may, he just couldn't recall the name of the pokemon in front of him. He could tell it was a chunk of ice, though, so he deduced that it was probably ice type. Maybe being a trainer wouldn't be so hard after all. Maybe its name was Chunkice? Whatever. The ice chunk pokemon stood in front of him and looked up at him, just staring and waiting. At least it wasn't an Espurr or else he would have been thoroughly creeped out right now. The little guy probably wanted something.

Anselme scoured his pockets for something to give the little guy, but he figured it didn't smoke and that an ice type wouldn't really enjoy a lighter. Nor did it have any ears to enjoy music through earphones with, and no way was he going to blast his music for everyone else to hear. "Sorry Chunky, I've got nothing to give you." However, the pokemon's gaze stayed locked on to him. Is it… is it broken? He tried to walk around it, but the thing just turned to keep watching him. He then tried walking away, but it followed. When he stopped once more, the ice chunk did the same and yet continued to stare. An idea came to mind. "Stay, Chunky." He hadn't really thought of what to call it, but he figured that Chunky was as good a name as any. Once the command had been issued, he tried walking away again, and found, as he suspected, that he did not follow. It appeared that Chunky was quite the docile little creature. The pokemon given to him by the good doctor was not broken. Au contraire, he'd hit the jackpot! Actually, maybe it would have been better to get a feisty one that could take care of itself. No, this was better; the latter would probably bother him too much.

"Alrighty then, c'mon, Chunky," he said, returning the thing to its ball. Now that that was taken care of, he figured he would probably need more pokemon. Obedient as he may be, Chunky didn't exactly look very threatening. He had five pokeballs, so that would be plenty. A brief scan of his surroundings showed that he could either continue past the village like the veterans and reckless, or he could go to that cave off in the distance. Caves were dark and murky and generally no fun, whereas routes tended to be full of annoying people looking for a battle. Boring or annoying? Cave it was.

The walk to the cave wasn't a very long one, just a simple stroll along the beach. It seemed to be one of the lesser chosen destinations for the new arrivals as opposed to the town and the route, and that was just the way he liked it. Along the way, he tried remembering everything he knew about catching pokemon. He never went to trainer school and didn't really talk to trainer kids in regular school, so his knowledge on the matter was minimal. One thing that everyone knew, though, was that you threw pokeballs at pokemon to catch them. Easy enough. Enough normal people owned pokemon to show that you didn't need to be an expert trainer to catch them, meaning there probably wasn't much more to it than that. Now he just had to wander around the cave until he found a pokemon.

The cave seemed silent. Maybe he was wrong and there were no pokemon inside? That would surely explain why so few people were going there. Anselme continued to delve deeper into the cave, the light at the tip of his cigarette appearing brighter and the music coming from his earphones appearing louder as he went on. Thankfully, he was still able to see due to the light from outside streaming into the cave, but that light was slowly fading. Somebody should have told him this place was a bust, but on second thought it was his own fault for making assumptions. It wasn't like he was some ace detective.

His musings were interrupted by a sudden ringing in his ears that felt like someone was screaming loudly past his loud music, straight into the ears, but he couldn't quite hear anything. "Ngh!" Anselme clutched his ears in pain. His senses became jumbled, the room felt like it was spinning. Karma seemed to be getting a refund for all the luck with Chunky, because immediately afterward he felt something crash right into him. HIs dizziness coupled with the impact knocked him to the ground.

Anselme groaned before slowly getting to his feet, his fallen earphones still loudly playing music. The first thing he searched for was his also-fallen cigarette. Fortunately, it was still lit, so he picked it up, dusted it off lightly, and put it back into his mouth. He took a puff as he searched for his mystery assailant, only to find a little Zubat on the ground nearby. "So this is all your fault, huh?" He said threateningly and stepped up to the bat as it rose. Perhaps sensing hostile intent, the Zubat quickly turned and fled deeper into the cave. Unfortunately for it, Anselme had managed to lock on to it with his eyes. Just throw the pokeball at it, right? Anselme chased after it and reached his left hand into his pocket, pulling out an empty pokeball. "You're mine, now!" he shouted as he launched the ball toward its target.

    Day 1 Chapter 1.3: Morning

    Akane Kojima
The merchant turned around, giving the traveller a smile as he stocked up the wares on his table.

"Fresh off the boat, are we?" he chuckled. "Well, the only way outta Beachcliffe is to follow the path to the next route," he gestured to the dirt path that made its way up the cliff, past the houses and through into a light forest, "or back the way you came. Unless you wanna know what actually is in the next route. Because in that case, can't help you, pal. Not the adventurin' type. I prefer the money-makin' kind of career." He gestured to his wares, looking awfully proud of them. "Anything speakin' to ya?"

The ball hit the Zubat, capturing it, and fell to the ground. The ball shakes once... twice... three times... ding! Yes! It's caught! Nice catch. It seems the odds really were on your side today.

If you lift your head, you may notice that you've reached the end of the cave. It's a dead end but there's something mysterious about the wall at the end. It looks like a mural of sorts, with a circle of 5 blue, white and red swirled mysterious looking stones with an indent in the middle, looking like it would fit another one of these stones. There's nothing on the floor or in the cave anywhere... so where is this last key?

Suddenly, a Diglett pops out of the ground beneath the wall. If there's enough light, you can see it doesn't look very happy. More unhappy looking Diglett suddenly pop out of the ground and begin crying out angrily. It's probably a very good time to run, because it looks like they're about to charge (... or dig. Whatever)!

  • Akira Johnson - Beachcliffe Cave

Akira roamed through the cave, and Bon-Bon waddled in beside her. She looked around the cave, and managed to see a figure move in front of her vision. Probably a wild Pokèmon. She thought to herself. Bon-Bon was looking around restlessly, and Akira couldn't help but smile at her Bonsly's excitement. She continued through the cave, and decided that there had to be more Pokèmon than she thought. "This isn't so bad." She motioned toward to the left so Bon-Bon would follow her, and watched the area around her. Soon enough, she came across a Pokèmon, and analyzed the data from her PokèDex. Zubat, huh? She thought. She inclined her head toward the Zubat, and watched Bon-Bon take position. "Use Flail!" She called, which alerted the wild Zubat. Bon-Bon advanced forward, and flailed the limbs on it's head after jumping up to reach the Zubat. Dodging, the wild Zubat used leech life, knocking Bon-Bon back. "Hmm.." Akira murmured, looking over the moves in her PokèDex. By that time, the Zubat rushed in, and used leech life. "Bon-Bon! Dodge it and use flail once more!" She called. Bon-Bon jumped to the side and leaned in, flailing the limbs on it's head to knock the Zubat off.

Recovering, the Zubat used leech life again, and managed to catch Bon-Bon before it could get away. Tumbling back, Bon-Bon stood again, waiting for Akira to issue a command. "Use copycat!" Akira called, issuing the awaited order. Bon-Bon surged forward, and used leech life. "Now use Flail!" She cheered, watching the Bon-Bon pommel the Zubat with the limbs on it's head. The Zubat fell back, and retaliated with supersonic. Bon-Bon tumbled back, and looked back at Akira. With a nod, akira looked down at her belt, and took one of the Pokèballs from it.

    Here goes!

And she launched it at the Zubat.

Timothy- Day 1 Morning -Beachciffe Village
    Into the Woods
"Okay. I'll get some fresh water and the stone glyph thanks." A woman next to him picked up the glyph, and Tim waited. After she put it down he picked it up and pocketed it. He brought out the necessary money, and the woman put out her hand wearing a large smile on her face. Tim also picked up the Fresh Water. Tim knew most of the wild plant foods and could cook any number of Pokemon very well, starting from scratch. Water could be hard to come by though.

"Excuse me, p-please! Ms. Briar? Mr. Lorantos? Mr. Stern? May I get, may I get a photo of you all with the merchants here?" Tim turned around, confused. He recognized that voice. After turning he realized who it was. He was that one person on that boat. The one person who always accompanied expeditions so they could take photos. The only reason Tim remembered him at all was because he had been snapping photos the entire way to the island. Tim didn't really understand the value of having a lot of photos of what you were doing. Tim really thought you should be in the moment, if you are constantly snapping photos it will ruin the experience.

"I don't really have any problem with taking a picture, can't speak for the rest of the people here," the person who had picked up the glyph before him had said. Tim sighed. Now was not really the time. He looked at the other two people before deciding, "I need to go." Tim walked past the photographer, not aggressively. Now was the time to move on and examine that glyph. It could hold valuable information, and if it didn't, he could sell it to one of the other adventurers for more money. Tim looked around, trying to find a pathway out of the town. Examining the landscape, he saw an obvious pathway into a forest. A sign was put up there, tacked to a tree. It said, "Route 1." Wow. This place already had official routes.

Tim arrived up at the entrance to the woods. It was not very densely populated, light shone through the leaves brightly. There was a dirt path very clearly set aside from the rest of the woods. From here Tim guessed, it would only get thicker. He started down the path, a while back he passed someone had been standing here. If other adventures also had gotten this far, he had better get a move on it. Hopefully he would be the one to bring the unknown prize of treasure to Heather. The dirt path was soft on Timothy's feet, his padded shoes didn't make a difference right now. Reaching into his backpack he decided to pull out the stone glyph to study it. Maybe he could find something out from it. Knowing three spoken languages and two dead ones could be useful in archeological sites. Snapping out of his reverie he looked down at the glyph again and continued walking.

Yukari's green eyes widened at the sight of the book in the clerk's hands and it took her all her inner strength to keep her composure and not jump up and down, squealing in excitement, just like a little kid at the sight of a toy he so much wanted, under his Christmas tree on Christmas morning.

"I'll do it." She said, her voice chimming happily. "I was going to explore the nearby cave first anyway, so I'd be more than glad to do it."

The clerk smiled and extended her hand, holding a brand new, shiny Pokéball. Her hand was shaking and Yukari could sense that the woman was barely containing her excitement.

"I'll see you soon!" the girl nearly shouted as she snatched the Pokéball from the woman's hand and dashed towards the beach happily, followed closely by her Misdreavus. As soon as she reached the beach, she headed over to the nearest boulders and sat down to catch her breath and enjoy the view. She loved the way the ocean seemed so calm, yet raging, the way the Sun made it look like it was made of gold. She adored the way the cliffs endured the force of the waves, splashing furiously against them over and over. The sea was something new for this shy, child-like sixteen year old girl born and raised in Azalea Town, in the Johto region.

"Mis…" her Pokémon's voice echoed in her ears.

She looked up and saw her Misdreavus watching her curiously, not knowing what to do.

"Oh, Yume!" she said, snapping out of her dream-like state. "I'm sorry…. It's just, I've never seen something so amazing in my entire life, you see?"

Misdreavus nodded with a smile and turned to face the ocean. It was beautiful, just like Yukari said. The waves playing about, furiously crashing into the cliffs nearby, the Wingull flying about playfully, the Sun shining on the surface of the water as if caressing the waves.

The Pokémon watched Nature's show in awe. She quietly sat on top of her trainer's head and the two of them spent a great deal of time just admiring the beauty before them. The thing that made them both snap out of it was the faint smell of a cigarette and the silhouette of a man approaching the cave entrance.

"Oh right! The shopkeeper!" Yukari shouted as she remembered why they headed towards the beach in the first place. "Come on, Yume, let's go!" she said as she picked up her backpack and dashed towards the cave, her Misdreavus quickly following her trainer.

Finally, they were there. The entrance to the cave was right in front of them. The girl tried to look inside, but it was too dark to see anything so she figured she's improvise a torch of sorts, but that was easier said than done. She looked around her for any kind of dry wood, or anything that would catch fire pretty quick and stay lit, at least for a while. She soon enough spotted a dried out shrub and figured she could grab some of its branches and light them up. She wasn't so great at this whole "surviving in the wild" thing, but she knew that anything that's made of wood and dry enough should burn. So she grabbed her small knife from one of the pockets on her belt and proceeded to cut off some branches.

"All set!" she said happily then headed towards the cave again. "Are you ready, Yume?" she asked, looking by her side, at her Pokémon that was watching her trainer in the same kind, yet curious manner as always.

"Misdreavus!" Yume said and nodded. She seemed determined and pretty eager to join her trainer in this first adventurous thing they were doing on Apollo.

Yukari used one of the matches in her matchbox to light up a few of the branches. She knew she didn't have much time until they either burned completely or until the fire would go out so she decided to make it quick.

The cave had a nice feeling to it. The sea breeze was bringing the salty air all the way inside and the walls almost seemed to sparkle under the light of the girl's "torch". But there was no sight of any Pokémon so she knew she had to go in even deeper.

Suddenly, she heard loud noises coming from way ahead of her and she rushed over, curious to see what was going on. A group of Zubat flew past them, causing Yukari to trip and fall over, almost dropping her makeshift torch.

"Ow! Ow! Ow! That hurt!" she said as she got up and started brushing the dust off her clothes. When she finally felt ready to move on, the commotion far ahead still far from ending, her eyes locked on a Zubat that had apparently stayed behind. She quicky reached out for her Pokédex and scanned the Pokémon. It didn't seem to be much of a challenge for a first battle so she joyfully gave her command:

"Let's go, Yume! Time to battle!"

Misdreavus cried excitedly and assumed a battling position, looking as determined as ever. She no longer looked gentle, curious and kind. This was her first battle and she wanted to give it her best for her trainer.

"Alright, Yume, use Growl!" Yukari called out and Misdreavus let out a sharp cry, causing Zubat to back down a bit and feel at a slight disadvantage, thus losing Attack power. Misdreavus then smiled, brimming with confidence.

The wild Zubat didn't waste any time and, soon enough, it let out a sharp cry that echoed and slammed against the cave walls then straight into Misdreavus, causing the Pokémon to cringe and throwing her back, leaving her confused.

"Oh no!" Yukari shouted worriedly as her disoriented Misdreavus slammed against the nearest wall, hurting herself in her confusion. "Come on, Yume, you can't give up!" the girl cried out and then desperately shouted: "Use Spite! Please, just use Spite!"

Yume's body started glowing as Zubat was engulfed in darkness, causing it to desperately use Supersonic again, about four times in a row, wasting its energy. Each attempt was unsuccessful however, as Yukari's Misdreavus was already confused.

The wild Zubat quickly retaliated by throwing a shiny dart straight at the disoriented Misdreavus, sapping away her energy. Over and over and over again it launched its Leech life attack, taking advantage of Yume's confusion. It didn't seem to have much of an effect, but it was enough to put the new trainer under pressure.

Yukari tightened her grip on the makeshift torch and her heart started pounding faster and faster, her pulse rising as she worriedly called out:

"Use Psywave! Please, Yume, snap out of it and use Psywave!"

The despair in her voice seemed to have done it as Yume snapped out of her confusion and the beads around her neck started shining in pretty purple and pink lights, launching a powerful Psywave attack at the wild Pokémon. She nearly missed, as Zubat tried dodging, but she dealt enough damage. Zubat seemed tired.

"This is it!" Yukari thought as she grabbed one of her Pokéballs and threw it at the wild Zubat. Unexpectedly, the wild Pokémon deflected the ball with its wings and Yukari couldn't help but watch it fly to the side and towards the ground.

For some weird reason, right at the same time, a clueless, tiny, wild Diglett popped out of the ground, probably awoken by the sounds of the battle. Before it could do a thing, it felt Yukari's falling Pokéball hit its head and it cried faintly.

Yukari was amazed, but she didn't have any time to stop and see wether or not she caught the little Diglett. Her battle was still not over and Zubat seemed determined to go on as well.

"This is it, Yume!" she cried out as she reached for another one of her Pokéballs. "Use Psywave! Quickly!"

Yume answered her trainer's request with a cry as she quickly launched another Psywave attack at the determined, but worn out Zubat. This time, it hit directly and the wild Zubat fell on the ground, exhausted.

The young trainer threw her Pokéball and it landed straight on top of Zubat.

All of the sudden, the noises at the back of the cave grew louder, and Yukari was scared, yet curious to find out what was going on, but she couldn't just run away without completing her captures. So she simply stood there, waiting, with Misdreavus returning by her side, proud of the outcome of her first battle.

    Anselme Gwenaël Ducreux
    Cliffside Cave > Beachcliffe Village

It didn't take a genius to know that the ding meant success! Anselme walked over to the ball on the ground and picked it up, still breathing hard from the excitement and the (brief) chase. My first capture, huh… if it was this easy all along then I definitely should have gone on an 'adventure' seventeen years ago. He figured he should probably get a better look at his new pokemon; see if it was anything like Chunky. He'd heard that once a pokemon had been caught it wouldn't try escaping anymore. While that sounded pretty optimistic, he figured it wouldn't be too much trouble to catch another Zubat if this one ran away, although his still-ringing ears disagreed with him about that last part. "Alright, let's take a look." He tossed the ball forward, but to his surprise, it hit something and bounced right back at him, hitting his face yet again. "Agh, what the hell!" When the ball fell to the ground, it let out the Zubat, but now he was more concerned about the thing that caused him to be hit again.

After picking up the ball, he took a few steps forward into the dark cave to find a suspiciously flat wall. He didn't realize he had followed the Zubat this far into the cave. I really should have brought a flashlight… He stared at the wall a few moments and waited for his eyes to adjust so he could see it properly, also sliding his hands along it. There were...engravings? No…round, set in stones of some sort. Moving his fingers along the edges of the stones revealed that they were detachable, so he took one. They made a circle around an indent where another stone probably went. Not even half an hour as a trainer and he had already caught a pokemon and made a discovery. Either he was a natural or this 'pokemon journey' thing was way too easy.

Alright, I'm done with this cave. He felt confident that he qualified for the title of 'amateur archaeologist' or something by now. He figured that he could probably get a picture of the wall, though, so he began to shuffle through his pockets in search of his phone only to find that it wasn't there. Where could it…oh...nevermind. He suddenly recalled a memory of himself packing lazily for the trip, looking at his phone, then thinking. I don't even call anyone on the thing so it'll just waste space. Besides, I don't even think there's signal in this 'untouched land'. Whatever though, it wasn't like a picture was that important anyway. Maybe he could get that nerdy looking camera guy (not the annoying one from the boat) to let him borrow his.

As it always seemed to happen, his thoughts were again interrupted, this time by an unfamiliar sound, but one he could actually hear properly. He had turned down his music a little to avoid being ambushed, like with the damn Zubat. Speaking of, he still had to take a look at his new pokemon, but first comes mystery noise. Anselme turned around to see a little round thing sticking out of the ground. Lucky, lucky, lucky. Time for yet another addition to his team. He reached for an empty pokeball, but as he did he saw another little pokemon sprout from the ground. That one was followed by yet another! He was going to need some more pokeballs! As even more little things rose from the ground, his grin began to fade. The back of the cave started becoming filled with loud, high pitched cries. He now realized he was facing the wrath of the land.

"AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!" Anselme screamed at the top of his lungs as he fled the cave, followed promptly by the Zubat, then by the mob of angry ground things. He had dropped his cigarette once more, but no way in hell was he going back for it. Screw the 'discovery' too! And you know what? Screw this whole 'expedition'! He burst out of the cave, past the beach, up the hill, and finally into the sanctuary of the modern, sturdy pokemon center. Of course, the diglett never followed him past the cave, but Anselme couldn't have known that, and even if he did he would have been too panicked to care.

Inside the pokemon center, various trainers, residents, and other miscellaneous visitors all stared at Anselme like he was crazy. "Shut up, there were like a thousand of them," he said defensively despite the fact that nobody had said anything. Apparently he was surprisingly fast when he was terrified, because it took the Zubat a little bit to catch up. Anselme sighed and sat down on the soft couch in the pokecenter lobby. "I need a drink," he muttered to himself, still panting from so much running. He had his doubts that this place had any bars, though.

The Zubat flew nearby for a little while before it lowered itself onto the couch beside him. Finally getting the chance to look at it up close, he saw that it was quite small and no fiercer than Chunky, but it definitely seemed to have more individuality than the chunk of ice. Although the fangs and the lack of eyes did make it substantially scarier than Chunky. Still not creepier than an Espurr, though. Or his brother's damn Charizard. The little legless and eyeless bat seemed to be just as tired as he was, so he returned it to its pokeball. Oh, right. It needed a name. He could think of one later.

Still reflecting on the cave, Anselme held up the stone he had taken from it. Definitely not worth the trouble. Maybe he could sell it, though. He could probably say it was a magic relic from the island's past or something, like the sols. They had all been given one and they supposedly had magical powers, but he didn't believe it. Even if there were such a thing, why would there be so many to the point that they would all just be handed one? It all sounded pretty irresponsible if they were so powerful. To him, all the bead on his wrist was was a bead on his wrist. Looking at the cave stone in proper light, he could now see that it was colored blue, red, and white. They reminded him of the colors of Kalos. What he wouldn't give to be back in Lumiose right now. He had to do this, though. He needed to turn his life around. One discovery was enough for that, wasn't it?

Anselme groaned, then sighed, then just laid back on the couch and did nothing. He deserved a break.

  • October Carter -
    231.gif

October was about to step through the tree arched entrance into Route One after stopping to take a quick thought, until a younger man slightly shorter than her pushed past her. It took October a quick back step and a slight push on her lower back from April to regain her balance as the man continued to run off. Brushing herself off, she scowled at the back of the guy who had pushed past her, April tooting angrily in agreement.

"Geez, someone's eager," she commented, shrugging her backpack up her shoulder more. Bending down she patted April softly on her head and along the bridge of her nose, "thanks for having my back, girl, in more ways than one."

April simply closed her eyes as she enjoyed the brief pat. When it was over she looked up at October, almost expecting it to continue, but she only smiled at the little elephant before taking the first step into Route One. Above their heads the foliage rustled with the light flapping of feathers as strands of light danced on the path in front of their feet. A small creek gurgled to their right as it snaked its way through the undergrowth as Pokémon shook the bushes to their left. It soon appeared to the both of them that so long as they stayed to the path and didn't stray off to venture into the undergrowth, they would be left along by the forest dwellers.

They had been strolling along the path for about ten minutes before a rustling in the bushes caught October's attention as a small green blur jumped from one bush to the other. Her eyes glazed over as she realised what she had glimpsed. Back in Kanto, Pokémon like Charmander, Squirtle and Bulbasaur were rare to come by, the professor only handing out one of each every year. If you weren't on his list to become a trainer, then you were out of luck at catching them unless you had money to travel to one of the outer regions. Simply glimpsing what looked like the lush green bulb of a Bulbasaur, October knew right away she needed to catch one at all costs. She had seen each year the trainers waltzing into town to face the gym leader on their circuit, and each year she watched in envy as one of each walked in with the cute little plant dinosaur by their side.

"April, let's go!" she yelled without prior warning to the Phanpy and went ploughing into the bushes and thorns as beneath her feet the green Pokémon crawled through the bracken.

"April, Tackle!" October roared after a couple of meters and from behind her the blue elephant burst forth, pummelling into the green shape, causing it to tumble out into the opening.

Angrily, the Caterpie turned on April and tackled her back, October bringing her hand to her face for even thinking that she could mistake a simple Caterpie for a majestic Bulbasaur. She was glad though that April knew exactly what to do, October wasn't the best of trainers and only needed to call out the moves when she wanted April to switch moves, otherwise the small elephant simply kept talking her small blue body into the Caterpie's. The battle went on for a couple of minutes, but aside from being slowed down via String Shot, April had taken little damage from the small bug. One last leap and Phanpy knocked the Caterpie to the ground, causing the small bug to faint. Dropping to her knees, October gave April another quick pat for winning the fight.

Removing a stray string of silk from her hair, October turned on her heels, walking back the way she had come. Only a few steps in she stopped, April bumping into the back of her legs, casting her head around in each direction she realised they were both hopelessly lost from the path. During their crashing through the forest, October had turned around so many trees and burst through enough bushes to completely lose the general direction in which the path was. Cursing beneath her breath, October again started walking in one direction, only to curse again before deciding to walk in another direction.

"We are so... hopelessly... lost…" October exclaimed to April as she placed her head on the tree in front of her. As far as she knew, the Route ran from the north of the village, but whether it turned or not was the real question. Looking up she could barely see the sky through the breaks in the foliage much less the position of the sun.

"Our only option is to choose a direction and stick with it, which way should we go?" she asked the Pokémon, hoping its sense of direction was much better than her own.

After a bit of delegation with her trunk, April pointed with it in the direction to October's left, "Phanpy!" she said adamantly.

"I hope you're right…" October replied to the Phanpy who seemed overly sure it was the right way to go.

Bumbling through the brush for a couple more minutes they encountered several more Caterpie, a Sentret and two Wurmple, all of which Phanpy took down under October's command, having to expend a potion after the last battle with the two Wurmple in order to restore Phanpy back to full health. October thought they were doing pretty well, almost to the point of gloating to herself that they would make it out alive when she took a nose dive for the ground. Rubbing her ankle softly, she realised she had not tripped over a root like she had thought, but rather a small green bulb.

"Bulbasaur…" October spoke almost obsessively, scaring April a smidge.

The dinosaur Pokémon leapt angrily at October who brought her hands to her face in protection. She was waiting for the inevitable crunch as the Bulbasaur ploughed into her, but after a moment she peaked through her arm barrier to see Phanpy had tackled the Bulbasaur mid-air and was now squaring off with it in the underbrush. The two Pokemon exchanged tackles, dodging over roots and leaping over small shrubs. They were almost two green and blue blurs amongst the foliage; October always keeping an eye on April but continually losing sight of the Bulbasaur as it blended in. Soon the two burst forth into a small clearing in front of October, April looking worse for wear between the two Pokémon as October rushed to help her.

"Defence Curl!" October ordered as she burst through into the clearing, the Phanpy promptly rolling into a ball as the Bulbasaur's tackling began to take less off a toll on the Phanpy. Running up, October sprayed another Potion all over April, seeing her wounds heal up as if they were nothing but drawings.

"Tackle!" April unrolled herself from the defensive ball shape she had taken on and started to pummel the Bulbasaur back. Within moments, it started to become short of breath, it's attacks no longer as taxing on April as they had been previously.

"Way to go, April!" October yelled in celebration as she threw a PokeBall at the Bulbasaur, watching the ball fall in slow motion as it hit the green dinosaur once, causing it to open up and the Bulbasaur to disappear inside in a brief flash of light.

The ball fell to the bracken strewn floor, shaking indeterminably as October crossed her fingers at her sides, hoping for the ball to finally click closed as she obtained the Pokémon. She could only look between April and the ball as she waited for the final verdict.

    Barry Lorantos
    Beachcliffe Village > Beachcliffe Cave

Barry barely paid attention as the merchant boringly explained something about a Sol "appraiser" in the next town. He knew next to nothing about the mysterious glyph. And then came the stone.

Actually, the stone came before the glyph, but whatever.

The merchant explained that a traveler sold it to him. It was strange, an odd color with swirls of red, blue and white. It gave Barry a feel of mystery.

The merchant continued, explaining that the traveler found it near an odd wall at Beachcliffe Cave. Something about it told Barry that he had to buy that rock. It could be they key to something behind the wall.
His ideas were interrupted when Benjamin Whistler, another person who had ben sent to Apollo, came in.

"Excuse me, p-please!" he said. "Ms. Briar? Mr. Lorantos? Mr. Stern? May I get, may I get a photo of you with all the merchants here?"

    The group began to answer.
"I don't really have any problem with taking a picture, can't speak for the rest of the people here," Anise said.
"I have to go," Timmothy said, then left.
Now it was Barry's turn to answer. "Hold on," he said, then turned to the merchant. "I'd like to order that mysterious stone, please," he ordered. He put down the necessary money and the merchant, smiling, handed him the rock. Barry was just dying to find out what it did.

He turned back to Benjamin and Anise. "Uhh, sorry if you wanted that," he said to Anise. Facing Benjamin now, he said, "I'm ready for the picture."
