30 Days of Gaming Challenge

Day 21 - Game with the best story

...Well... It's really hard to just pick one. Some that come to mind are To the Moon, Bioshock, Final Fantasy 7, Planescape Torment... And several others. I'm tempted to say To the Moon because I was so emotionally invested in the story, but... I don't think I can just pick one.

Best story?
Yea, I know I will say it, you know I will say it so... Persona 3.

Day 20 - Favorite genre.

RPG because almost everyone else picked it and I'd feel weird if I was the outlier.

Day 21 - Game with the best story

Instead of having to stress over the best story, I'm just picking the game that popped in my head first because that's got to be the game with the best story right?

Day 21: Game with the best story.

Oknytt.

Not familiar? First of all, imagine that ALF and a hedgehog got together and made a baby. Boom. There's your main character.

[PokeCommunity.com] 30 Days of Gaming Challenge

Now, this ALF-hog-hybrid is also the avatar, with the ability to control water, fire, air, and earth via these runestones at the bottom of the screen. Sometimes it's really lame - use air on this screen to make the windmill spin for no reason whatsoever. More often, it's puzzle-related and I think that's really neat.

Anyway. Wrong day for that topic. Fun gameplay mechanics aside -- now that we have the main protagonist established, let's move onto his story.

When you first start, you're in the first-person pov of someone who is never named - presumably, it's meant to be you, the player - and you're walking toward a campfire where a strange voice offers you hospitality and a story by the fire. You'll soon forget that was how it all started, though. This game sucks you in.

The story he starts is, of course, about our little ALF-hog, a seemingly insignificant creature whose first night alive is spent exploring the world and helping those in need. He's naive, but curious, about the world around him. He's a gentle soul; he soothes hurt feelings and keeps his promises to help all the other nice critters he comes across. He just wants to help make everybody feel better. c:

Despite his obviously good intentions, it's still a very dark game overall, with some pretty nasty and obscure creatures pulled from Swedish folklore, many of which you may not be familiar with. But the running theme of "halp all the critters" is really sweet in the doom-and-gloom atmosphere.

And, for once, it was an ending that I did not see coming.

Beautiful story, surprisingly logical puzzles for a point and click, and one of the most adorable protagonists ever. c:

Day 21 - Game with the best story

Even if it is too excessively complex for it's own good, I've always been a fan of Xenosaga's storyline. A lot of underlying themes, including Nietzsche's philosophies, made obvious by the title of each game as well as a lot religious overtones/symbolism. Like I said, they throw a lot of this at you at once, that's it's hard to make sense of it. All the characters (as well as villains) have a fleshed out background and are believable in their motive and way of thinking. It's a convoluted story that uncoils with time and patience.

Writing this actually makes me want to go back and play the trilogy again. :)

Day 21 - Game with the best story

Hard for me to choose...but I'm leaning towards Chrono Trigger. Don't really have a specific reason, though.

Day 22 - A game sequel which disappointed you.

Final Fantasy XIII Lightning Returns

The FF XIII trilogy isn't the best of games out there by a long shot, however it was playable up until the release of Lightning Returns. You had some kind of story going for a couple of games and then this shit comes out and just fucks everything up even more than it was already fucked. There's literally no point to anything in this game as you can pretty much finish it without doing too much of anything. I have so much hate for this game.

Day 22. A Game Sequel That Disappointed You

Bioshock 2

Interestingly enough, being a classical liberal and somewhat understanding of Ayn Rand's philosophies, I thought I would like this game better than the first one considering 2 skewers collectivist/leftist philosophies, but the story was just...I don't know...it really didn't seem like it was told that well; I also didn't really like the weapons that much.

Super Paper Mario. This game was waaaaaaaayyyyyyy off from what consumers wanted. When people heard about a new Paper Mario game they were excited for the thrill and charm that they were expecting the game to have. But once they played the game they were disappointed to say the least. The game's story was mediocre at best and the characters were terribly drawn out. And the fact they got rid of the turn-by-turn battling sequence was a huge no for me. The two previous games before this game had it and it worked then they bring this game out and all you do is jump on heads... I could honestly go on for hours of why I hate this game but I'll stop here.

Day 22 - A game sequel which disappointed you.

Far Cry 2 was a disappointing sequel. I was a huge fan of Far Cry: Instincts and so I checked out 2 and felt utterly disappointed. It was neither fun or similar to its predecessor and that just ain't right.

Day 22, A game sequel that disappointed you

When it comes to this topic, I would have to go with Dungeon Siege III. I found it quite disappointing when compared to the original Dungeon Siege. For one thing, you have up to four party members, but can only have two out at a time. Plus then there is the equipment, not only are there pieces that increase stats, but also pieces that not only increase some stats while decreasing others.

Day 22 - A game sequel which disappointed you

Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures (Mainly the Genesis version)
While the game IS a childhood favorite due to the many reactions with Pac-Man, it still felt kinda boring otherwise

Day 22: A game sequel which disappointed you.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I was initially disappointed by Resident Evil 6 for "not being Resident Evil," but I grew to love it, even if only for the local co-op with my dad. And even if that meant that sometimes I had to play both controllers at the same time because he's old and bad at QTEs.

But that is literally the only thing I can think of that might even remotely count as an answer for today.

Day 22 - A game sequel which disappointed you

Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. It was very unappealing with a completely different environment, but at least Link to the Past made up for its troubles.
