[PokeCommunity.com] Favorite Pokémon Tournament 2016: Ground (Sept. 27 - Oct. 3)

Welcome to the fourth annual Favorite Pokémon Tournament, hosted here in Pokémon General! The goal of the Favorite Pokémon Tournament (or FPT), is to determine the most popular Pokémon of the users here at the PokéCommunity. This will be a 10-week set of polls culminating in mid-November, where we'll pit almost all the Pokémon from different types of past and present generations against each other to determine a winner. After we know the results of each type, we'll add all of those Pokémon to a final poll, where the winner(s) will be crowned champion, and will go down into the record books as PokéCommunity's favorite Pokémon of 2016!

If you are new to the Favorite Pokémon Tournament, or would just like a refresher on the rules/process of the event, please take a look at the FAQ posted below:

Spoiler:

NOTE: Because of the limited number of poll spaces, not all eligible Pokémon have been included. If you want to vote for an unlisted Ground-type, check the "Other Pokémon" option represented by a (?), and leave a post with your vote.

Now that you know what the tournament is all about, what are you waiting for? Polls are open until October 3rd, so get voting!

Not really a big fan of the ground type but I do love two Unovian lines a lot: Krookodile and Golurk.

Krookodile was an immediate redeeming factor gen V for me, before I learned to the games, and Golurk was a Pokemon I learned that I really liked after playing X and it fit in really well as my main Physical attacker. Plus it can learn FLY!!!!!!

Baltoy line, Golett line, and Other. The other being Torterra.

Funny Story: When I was in middle school, my friend and I wondered what type we would be if we were Pokemon. We determined that I would be both a Ground- and a Psychic-type. From then on, Claydol has been my spirit "animal".

I didn't realize how many ground pokemon I liked a lot:

Sandshrew line
Cubone line
Gligar line
Phanpy line
Marshtomp line
Trapinch line
Gible line
Hippopotas line
Drilbur line
Sandile line

Threw votes at the Diglett line, the Swinub line, the Phanpy line, and the Hippopotas line.

There's a quite a few more I like a lot here but don't really associate with Groundness so my votes go Sandshrew line, Cubone line, Sandile line and Hippopotas line. Mostly for design but Cubone's story makes me want to care for it and I love how gangster the Sandile line are!

I voted for:

Steelix: I picked Steelix in the Steel poll as well, he's my absolute favorite Steel type and Ground type. That typing, that defensive bulk, that design, that movepool, that mega... everything about Steelix is amazing. It's in my top 6 favorite pokemon for my dream team.

Gliscor: Gliscor is so awesome it's ridiculous. I think it has a really cool design that compliments Gligar incredibly well. It's type combination is positively amazing with two really great immunities. Having one with "Posion Heal" is just positively amazing, giving it not only leftover quality healing but complete immunity to all hindering status conditions. It's just an absolutely intimidating and powerful pokemon and is just fun to play with all together.

Gastrodon: Gastrodon is powerful and (IMO) cute. It is an absolute tank with a pretty impressive move pool, an awesome design (my favorite is the pink one) for a giant slug, it's stats make it a pretty bulky tank that can be thrown comfortably in front of a lot of threats. It also can gain an extra water immunity through "Storm Drain" which I have found to be very often incredibly useful.

Stunfisk: I voted for Stunfisk in the Electric type poll as well. I am in general not a huge fan of Electric pokemon, but Stunfisk has always impressed me since it was first released in generation five. I even made space for it on my White play through and it definitely did not disappoint. It's typing combination, movepool, and pancake design has always made it a favorite of mine.

I picked Phanpy line and Cubone line.

I'm not that much a fan of Ground-types, so it was quite tough to say which is my favourite considering I never really tend to bother using them. Purely for design purposes is the reasons why I chose Phanpy and Cubone lines.

I actually voted more than I expected.

A short summary of what I picked - Sandshrew line, Gligar line, Phanpy line, Marshtomp/Swampert, Trapinch line, Gastrodon, Gible line, Drilbur line, Sandile line, Stunfisk and Golett line. I mainly voted based on me either liking their designs or me being fond of their power in battle.

I voted for the following Pokémon:

Cubone line - love their design, and a super cool backstory too. I wish Marowak was stronger though :(
Gligar line - great design and a pretty cool typing. I prefer Gligar over Gliscor but both are really cool, and the latter is quite good in battle too.
Phanpy line - because who doesn't love elephants :D Again, pretty cool design and I loved using Donphan in Pokémon Stadium 2 back in the day.
Trapinch line - Flygon is one of my favourite Pokémon. I remember as a kid being so excited to see that Trapinch evolves into Vibrava.
Krookodile line - One of my favourite lines from Unova. Cool typing and really great design, as well as being great to use in-game.
And a vote in Other for Torterra, great design and good to use in battle. I love what it's based on too.

I voted for the Onix and Trapinch evolution lines. I've always been a fan of the Onix line but I've never really used it in a playthrough until this year where I used a Steelix in SoulSilver and it was super fun! I've always loved Flygon and using one in my team in Pokemon X was great even though it didn't get a mega ;)
