I can see the opinions on why Lillie will be unlikely, but she'd be a cool choice anyway.

No. Lillie be the worst. I rather have Hau, Gladion or someone as champion.

I guess you have something against female Champions? I know Diantha felt unfitting for a Champion, but Iris and Cynthia were both great. But then again, it has been a while since we last had a proper male Champion if remakes aren't counted.

No. Diantha was decent as well as cynthia and iris. All the male champions were good.

Red.

Anyway, I'm kinda hoping it's Grimsley for some reason. I want his role expanded. As unlikely as it is, I wouldn't mind seeing him as champion? But that's just me.

Assuming these games take place following the events of Sun & Moon and we now have a fully fledged Pok?mon League in Alola, who do you think would be the Champion? Is there any particular character that you'd like to face against?

I'd personally like to see Lillie as the Champion in these games. I think it would be a good way to re-introduce her in a different light after having travelled back to Alola and built her battling skills after defeating the Kanto league.

I like the idea of the protagonist in SM being the Champion, with a more generic Alola team. But that gives way to issues like are we using the boy or the girl protagonist?

Hau I think is also a viable candidate.

Perhaps it'd depend on which gender you pick when you start playing the game? Like, Sun if you pick Female protag, and Moon if you pick Male protag.

ik ew straight but

That's a nice idea. Probably the team will switch around too depending on which champion you're battling. Like Sun's team is different from Moon's team. oh no this game might have gender privilege if that happens since one game is harder for male characters or vice versa

I want a Dragon champion. I know we have some already but i am a dragon fan. Love to see the champion will all dragon pseudo legendaries in his/her team.

Why is some people replying so frequently going against Lillie, if you don't like her, fine, you can't stop others from having their opinions and like Lillie.

Lillie sounds like a cool rival, but I'd feel she might be the one progressing as a "new" trainer when she gets back to Alola and met the player at the lab, maybe.

I'd love the main protagonist from Sun/ Moon to be the rival. Boy if you're a boy and the girl if you chose to play as a girl.

Lance's HgSS rematch team was pretty close to that irc (sadly there were only three dragon Pseudos at the time) (If they add him post game then they could give him Hydreigon, Kommo-o, and/or Goodra to complete it (assuming a six member team)).

Anyway, the Champion might be the very random guy who appears during the Title Defense, Ryuki.
Hey! Ryuki is a dragon specialist! And in his team he has three Pseudo Dragon Pokemon (Dragonite, Garchomp, and Kommo-o).

I'd actually kinda laugh if the Champion was Tristan, that one random Youngster who sometimes challenges you for the title. His team is actually pretty balanced and it'd be quite funny if one of the first trainers you defeated was so inspired by you that they randomly decided to become the Champion. xD

Just as long as it's not Hapu; I loathe her design and her character - and her signature Pokemon - and I'd rather she stay as a Kahuna if she has to be anything at all.

I don't see anything wrong with Hapu, since she is a strong trainer and she'd be definitely Elite Four-worthy. But I can understand your point since she was only recently appointed as Poni Island's Kahuna.

Tristan though? He'd be the last person I'd expect to randomly become Champion.

Conceptually maybe not, but aesthetically I honestly can't think of a worse choice...I reaaaaally did not like her, haha. Although that said, you do raise a valid point - in the event that these games are sequels, having her as the Champion when she wouldn't have been long as a Kahuna wouldn't make much sense.

That's what would make it so hilariously brilliant, and a total curveball from GF. It's always the major NPCs that get the spotlight and the major roles, but really the player character is just another trainer like all the others, and it'd give off a nice "anyone can do it" sort of vibe that Pokemon often pushes in the anime and sometimes in the games. I mean, he was there to challenge you for the title in SM amongst all those other differently designed NPCs, so...why not go all the way with that?

I think that Hapu would make a great choice for Champion, considering how she had the typical Champion quality of reappearing several times throughout the Journey and helping us (she had more than Steven, Wallace, and Diantha for sure).

I might be in the minority here, but I would prefer a defined Champion character, to some extent. Perhaps not for the post-game, since the title defense battles have been well received and introduce some much-appreciated variety into the experience of repeating the E4, but for the initial battle I'd like someone who is established, rather than being a "placeholder" of sorts. I think that one potential contender I'd like to see is Kahili, since we only know a bit about her so far and she's the only member of the Elite Four this generation to have the "traditional" model for a League member - that is, relatively little appearance in the main story but well-designed and strong in her own right, instead of being a trial captain or Kahuna. I wouldn't mind Lillie, as has been speculated, though I'm not 100% sure about the story mechanics of her going off and training and then becoming Champion if this is an alternate story in which she doesn't meet the SM player.

There are a lot of characters they could choose if they go the traditional route with the Champion again, and I'm excited for the potential that they all exhibit. It really could be anyone!

Separately, I enjoy the Champion title defense battles, but I think it would be a better mechanic if challengers' levels scaled with the player as many battle facilities have through the course of the series. Regardless, I hope that these battles return even if a more defined Champion is chosen for the initial play-through.

I think Hapu would be a great champion. Better than having a certain someone that has no pokemon throughout the game.

As much as I really want the champion to be a brand new character, it's probably going to be someone we already met from the previous game. Specifically, Lillie or Hau.

There's nothing wrong with them in my opinion, but it's going to be an issue with new players that haven't played S/M. And it just feels like a wasted opportunity overall.

That's assuming that it's a sequel.

Maybe the Champion could be Mina... She's the last trial captain. Or (and I already mentioned her) Hapu who is the last Kahuna. I bring up the 'last' as Emerald had the last Gym leader become the Champion. Something which was repeated with B2W2 having the last gym leader of Pokemon White as Champion.

It can also still be in an alternate story too. Alternate Lillie being a trainer vs. S/M Lillie not being one.

But yeah, now that I think about it, Hapu is a really viable candidate. There was a lot of focus on her in S/M, so I can't imagine them not doing something with her this time.
