Gotcha, I think the tv show and books are roughly at the same spot as well. Not 100% sure on that but I think it's pretty close. My gf wants us to start watching season 5 which covers books 4&5 so I'm torn between reading first or just giving in and watching...

Huh, you're right.. book 4&5, I wonder what they'll do now. GoT-filler-season?

EDIT: Tho I wonder how far they are into the 5th book.

I've heard/read that since George R. R. Martin is being consulted for the tv show that it'll continue on, but will start following a slightly diff direction, e.g. some people will die in the show that don't die in the books, and such. tbh the tv show will probably have concluded well before he finishes the books (if he doesn't die off before finishing them)

Klippy, I have only seen the series. Are you going to use story elements from the books? GOD I HOPE NOT.

Our story will go up until the end of the third book roughly. So if you've watched the entire TV series, you won't be spoiled by anything.

For all intents, our story will basically deviate from the first post. Our prologue will have us basically near the beginning of the series, with some twists. As we go on, we will shape the plot of the series based on who lives and dies.

So you become a named character loyal to that house, but it's basically just a name for easier association right? You won't gain an ability will you?

Exactly! Even a peasant or lesser lord can win the game of thrones if they are willing to play it. :) All will be named.

Which is why I'm asking if he follows the TV-series. Then atleast I know I will not get any spoilers, since the original storyline won't go further than was shown in the TV-series. c:

See above. :)

PROLOGUE : DEATH OF THE STAG

My lord,

It brings me great pain to inform you of the death of King Robert Baratheon I, First of His Name, King of the Andals and the First Men, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, and Protector of the Realm. His death at the hands of a boar while hunting is a tragic loss for Westeros, however there is hope. His heir, King Joffrey Baratheon-Lannister, has taken up his father's seat on the Iron Throne.

In these dark times, we do ask that you maintain order with your vassals and common-folk. We wouldn't want anything to put your loyalty into doubt. See to it that the lords beneath your banner send tribute to the new king and pledge fealty to him.

Long live King Joffrey.

Sincerely,
Grand Maester Pycelle

Ned Stark threw the letter into the fire. His oldest friend, Robert, dead. He couldn't believe it. Robert had offered him a place as Hand of the King, but he had declined. His place was in the North and no seat of power could change that Especially when his son had fallen while climbing. Ned looked around at his wife, Catelyn. She looked at him with concern, but he merely placed his hand upon her cheek.

"Robert has died," he said. "Another Lannister scheme. It has to be." Ned turned from her and paced the room. What could he do? Pledge fealty to Robert's son - no. Joffrey was not Robert's son. He was a bastard, born of incest between Cersei Lannister and her brother. Ned had known this for a short time, but never had the chance to tell Robert. He had intended to ride south to King's Landing to tell him, but early snowfall had kept him in Winterfell. His daughters, Sansa and Arya, had left for King's Landing when Robert had come to visit several months ago. Ned had learned the secret of Joffrey's birth only a short time after this. His stomach turned thinking of the Lannisters in control of Westeros.

He approached the table and sat, pulling parchment and quill out as well. He had to write to Stannis Baratheon, Robert's brother. Stannis would not let this dishonor stand and Ned intended to rally behind him once Stannis had a plan.

Ned finished the letter deep into the night. He got up quietly, as Catelyn had fallen asleep. He folded the letter and sealed it with the direwolf wax seal before heading to Maester Luwin, who would send it on its way by raven.

Ned stood in the yard after dropping off the letter and breathed a sigh of tension. He could see his breath on the cold night air and said, "Winter is coming."

Stannis Baratheon stood on the balcony overlooking the ocean. Ned Stark had sent word over a fortnight ago and Stannis had began preparing his forces immediately after. No bastard would take the throne from him. He was not greedy. He did not even want the damn thing, but it was his duty to the realm and to his family. He had always done his duty. Robert had given the birthright of the Baratheon family to Renly, their youngest brother, but Stannis had not complained. Robert had entrusted him with Dragonstone, former home to the Targaryens.

Davos Seaworth stood beside him now, a loyal and true knight, who had come to save his life at this very place many moons ago. Under siege from Targaryen forces, Stannis had nearly starved from lack of food when a small smuggling vessel crept into Dragonstone during the night to deliver supplies. Davos had commanded that ship and had been a smuggler at the time. Stannis had given him his justice and taken the fingers from one of his hands, but Davos served loyally.

Stannis looked out further and saw it. A small boat was approaching Dragonstone and on it stood a woman in a red cloak.

Cersei Lannister sat at the table in her black gown. Her time of mourning her fat, disgusting pig of a husband was long from over, but inside she felt nothing but joy. She took another bite of the boar that had killed him and couldn't help but smile. He was dead and she was finally free to rule Westeros alone. Not that he had ever truly ruled. He was usually too drunk to even stay awake during the small council meetings.

Her vile brother, Tyrion, noticed her smile and asked, "My beloved sister, what a surprise to see your beautiful smile during this time of sorrow!" He sipped his wine and gave her a smug smile. She hated the foul little beast, but returned his smile with one of love before saying, "Merely remembering fond memories of my husband."

Tyrion knew the truth, of course, though she doubted he would ever tell a soul. He had as much to gain in their family rising to the top as she did. Jaime knew that. Jaime had thrown the Stark boy from the window of that tower to protect their family. He had to or Robert would have killed them both.

Ned Stark knew the truth as well. Lucky for her, she had convinced the fool to send his daughters back to King's Landing with them. His two daughters held hostage and one betrothed to her son. The fool wouldn't dare tempt her with their lives.

A knock at the door stopped her thoughts. Barristan Selmy entered, bowing, and said, "Forgive me, Your Grace, but we have found the person you called for."

"Good. Tell the Kettleblacks to take him to the Wall." she asked, taking another bite of boar.

"The...the Wall, your Grace?"

"Yes. The Kettleblacks will know where to drop them." She sipped some wine as Ser Barristan left and knew that her betrayal of this person was more proof of her skill at ruling.

Daenerys Targaryen sat at her wedding feast. Dothraki fighters danced back and forth with swords and daggers, slashing at the air and each other. Each strike sent blood spewing from the wounds, but neither man was stopping. This battle was to death. She shifted uncomfortably in her chair as her new husband, Khal Drogo, took a bite of meat. He was a large man and fearsome.

The fighters continued until one man's sword connected with the stomach of the other. Guts and intestine fell from the wound and the man fell to the ground. The victor slit his throat and cut his ponytail off before throwing it at Drogo's feet. Drogo clapped.

Dany looked left towards Ser Jorah Mormont, a Westerosi man that had arrived to honor her with gifts at the wedding. He had brought her three dragon eggs from a mutual friend and books about Westeros, her true home. Her brother, Viserys, sat nearby drinking and oogling the Dothraki slave women. She shifted again and stared at the dragon eggs. They were beautiful, but would never hatch. They had long since died, Jorah had told her. She placed a hand on one and felt it.

It was hot like fire.

Bryce Caron sat between two Lannister soldiers in a cart. They had been traveling for weeks now and the bitter chill let Bryce know he was in the North. He had been taken from his home and tortured in King's Landing for weeks by the Lannisters and it seemed they were finally done with him. He expected death now.

Bryce looked out a crack in the roof of the cart and saw it. The Wall.

"You cowardly bastards," he shouted. He spit in their faces. They both gave him swift punches and knocked a few teeth from his mouth. He didn't care. He might as well have been sentenced to death. The Wall was no place for him.

They rode up next to the Wall and he was shoved out into the snow. The men drew their swords and stepped out behind him. He heard one word being yelled at him and shook his head. One of the men slashed at his arm and nearly cut it off. The man pointed upwards and raised his sword again.

Bryce climbed. It felt like nearly another day had passed by the time they reached the top, but they had arrived at least. They camped at the top overnight. He, of course, bound and gagged. After dawn, they climbed down the other side. He knew he was being led to his death.

He considered jumping. He had nearly slipped on the ice twice, but couldn't muster the courage to do it. For all his faults, Bryce Caron was no craven. When they reached the bottom, the two knights cut him loose. They gave him a dull dagger and began their climb back up. He knew they would be there for at least two days. The climb back up, then back down. He dare not risk them catching him climbing back up. He didn't understand why they hadn't just given him to the Night's Watch, but he had no idea which direction it was to head there.

Night was already falling by the time he made camp many miles north of the Wall. He shivered and attempted to light a fire, but had no luck. The darkness was creeping in and he knew he'd be dead by morning. Frostbite, low temperatures, or a beast coming to slay him, it didn't matter to him. He welcomed death after what he'd been through.

He heard crackling ice in the distance. He stood up, dull dagger in hand. The crackling stopped. He peered through the dense trees for some sign of life.

"Who the bloody **** is out there?" he yelled.

A child's laugh and louder crackling ice returned his question.

He ran. He didn't know where he was going, but staying there was not going to end well for him. Perhaps he was truly a craven. He could barely see and caught a foot on a tree branch. He felt his ankle snap and he fell. He rolled over and saw it.

It was a child with glowing blue eyes. It stooped down and pressed a finger to his forehead before shrieking. He saw his hands turning icey blue, then his arms. The child kept its finger on his forehead until every bit of him was frozen. Even his eyes now glowed blue.

The child disappeared into the darkness. Bryce Caron's body stayed still for a time before finally rising. He was no longer a man.

He was a White Walker.

NIGHT ZERO

Welcome to a Song of Ice and Fire!

Role PMs have been sent out to everyone that received a named role. If you did not receive a named role PM, you are a Peasant. Fear not, for even a peasant may win the game of thrones. If you PM me your allegiance at any time, you will receive a name and be listed as such. Your role instructions are listed below.

If you are a Head of House (Ned Stark, Tywin Lannister, Stannis Baratheon, or Daenerys Targaryen), you may send your first LETTER tonight. If you have roles, you can use them tonight as well.

A reminder: Do not share your PMs with anyone! If your PM gives you a player's name, do not share that with the rest of the players. If you are Cersei and Jaime, you may communicate privately via PM or Skype. These are the only two players that may do so.

Have fun and valar morghulis.

YOU ARE A PEASANT

You're just the smallfolk. You can farm your land and hope that the lords of Westeros and their wars do not get you killed. You may DECLARE yourself to a House and will become a Loyal Peasant, but you will still have no abilities.

I would like to end Night Zero soon, so if you want to declare for a House (as a Peasant) or would like to submit night actions, now is the time! I will be ending the night phase when this post is 4 hours old (8PM PST). Thanks all!

Spoiler:

DAY ONE

Joffrey Baratheon-Lannister sat on the Iron Throne. His mother beside him. The lowly peasant, Nakuzami, laid at his feet begging for forgiveness. He had no desire for his apologies. His father wouldn't stand for a betrayal like this and he had no desire to either.

"Stand, you worthless swine," shouted Joffrey. Nakuzami stood. One of his tantrums would surely show the damn fools of this city who was in charge. He stepped down and grabbed a sword from the nearest soldier. He slashed at Nakuzami's face, cutting his cheek open. Slashing madly and laughing with glee, he cut Nakuzami down swiftly. "You deserve this. You gave me a beige present for my coronation!? DO YOU NOT KNOW WHO I AM?"

Lycanthropy smiled with glee at his work and said, "Do you see, mother? Do you see my handiwork?"

Suddenly a roar pierced the throne room. A dragon flew through the stained glass ceiling and landed in the room. A blonde girl sat atop the black-scaled beast. Dany Targaryen stood up on the beast's back and shouted, "I am the one true queen of Westeros. Take this as proof that your bastard king is taking my place on that throne. She looked down at the dragon and said, "Drogon... dracarys".

The dragon spat flames at Joffrey and it singed his arm. He cried out in pain and fell backwards. His arm was burned. He would never be able to throw a tantrum again, but it meant little. His last tantrum had been the sweetest he had ever experienced. The dragon flapped its enormous wings and began to ascend through the throne room. Dany shouted down, "I will be coming to take what is rightfully mine with fire and blood, bastard boy. My army grows every day in Essos." The dragon flew through the hole in the roof and off across the sea.

In the North, Howland Reed suited up and got on his horse. He rode for Winterfell. His best friend, Ned Stark, was in need of help and who better than Howland to answer the call so soon...

Grey Worm sat patiently waiting for his queen to return from her travel. He would die by her side if necessary.

Amory Lorch rushed to his king's side. Joffrey was badly burned and Cersei was shrieking with fear and fury. Amory lifted the crying boy up and rushed him to the maesters.

So it looks like House Lannister, Targaryen and Stark have been sworn loyalty to in this night phase.

Possibly more, no way to be sure at this moment.

Well, we also know Lycanthropy is Joffrey. Welp. sucks to be you Naku lmao haha.

EDIT: Aaand Dany has blocked Lycan from using tantrum... sweet i guess lmao

Yes, that seems to be correct. For some reason I didn't make the connection with what character from House Lannister he was right away, hehe.

Anyway, I'll leave this as is for now, as I'm too tired and need to wake up early tomorrow.

Very short work to find you, Lycanthropy! Though I'm sure your hindered ability will help the rest of us stay in good shape.

Nakuzami </3

Was Baratheon the only house no one sided with? Not many fans of purple names here, I guess.

Nah, I believe OP says tantrum's a one-time use, and fire and blood roleblocks someone at random, so someone else must be permanently roleblocked now.

Oops, nevermind, tantrum's not one-time - guess fire and blood did hit Joffrey. :P

I'm still a liittle disoriented and unsure about how we should be playing a mafia game with no mafia, lol. Should we be targeting the Wights, bandits, etc. first if possible, since they're the common enemy?

I believe we're supposed to be finding the white walker and wights etc while protecting and preserving our own houses. I don't see any win conditions in the op, so last house standing after all the bad guys are dead? Idk. I don't even watch this show.
