The
Maester gathered the remaining people into the throne room. It seemed
Melisandre was right. The night was growing darker than normal and the bitter cold chilled the Maester to the bones... he had servants light the torches along the walls and even had a large fire pit brought in to keep the group warm.
All of the group had taken bread and salt, a common way of denoting peace in a building, and all the weapons had been stacked neatly against the wall, protected by guards. None would die by sword here.
The Maester stepped forward and clapped. The group looked up at him in the growing dark and cold. "Despite all you have been through, there is more to come. On this night alone, you may speak here. There shall be no voting, but perhaps a chance at peace. As a result, I have brought sixteen gifts to perhaps start peaceful discussions... though I was told some of the gifts were tampered with. Some of you will not receive a gift...and perhaps that is okay.
One gift will hold a clue as to the identity of our
White Walker or one of his
wights. Four will allow you to freely change your alliance to any other House. One will be a crossbow to use during the day. Another will give you one use of greensight. Two will offer protection. Two...poison. One will offer the gift of life. One will plunge us into darkness for an entire day. One gives wildfire for malicious or wonderful purpose. And the last two offer nothing."
The Maester clapped again and a table of gifts was brought out for the group.
