Battle Tower (Information, Discussion, etc - like your neighborhood Ursaring)

So, I was using a strategy I found online some time ago,
Starmie Wise Glasses
Modest, 252 Sp.A, 252 Spd, 4 HP
Tbolt, Surf, Ice Beam, and Psychic
Electivire and Garchomp [both Adamant, 252 Atk, 252 Spd, 4 HP]
Electivire using TPunch, Crosss Chop, Ice Punch, and EQ, holding expert belt
Garchomp using EQ, Outrage, Fire Fang, and Crunch, holding... I forget what it's called, the physical equivilent of Wise Glasses.

Not the best team, but I wanted to beat 100, then try my own thing.
Got to 55 and got beat by the biggest hack ever >=I
Gengar.
I knew it'd outspeed and destroy Starmie, but switching wouldn't do any of the teammates any good, so I let it go. Switch in Salamance, for Crunch, and then the unexpected happened. Gengar used Gunk Shot, and critical hit me. I didn't even know it could learn that, but put that aside and prayed for Electivire, who survived one GS, and took out Gengar with I think TPunch, but got taken out by the Espeon that came out... which was no shock.
Some research later led me to find out, Gengar can't learn Gunk Shot, not even in Platinum where the move tutor teaches it >=I
Needless to say, I'm P.O'd.
I'm thinking about mixing BeachBoy's leading team with the one I just mentioned...
Lead with Starmie, same as before, nice speed, nice offences, usually OHKO's a lot of opponents, then bring in Uxie, and do the whole Yawn then Reflect/Light Screen ir Knock Off, switch into Scizor, who Subs and SD's while the opponent sleeps, and sweep with Bullet Punch.
Is it a bad idea to get rid of Garchomp for Starmie?
Or should I just keep Garchomp but take out Scizor?
Or is this just a bad idea?
Baaaaah I suck at BT T_T

@ vinilla thunderbolt.
your better of just yawn turn 1 and sweeping the rest of the team.sleep and sweep is a fairly effective stratergy.

ok i have been using yawn teams latly and after doing decently on my first run i have decided to replace gyarados with.

Empoleon @ LifeOrb/Leftovers
Adamant
252att/252spd/6hp
~Sword Dance
~Substitute
~Aqua Jet
~Drill Peck/Earthquake/avalanche

12 Resistances and a handy 25% resist from ice
What do you think. It's being used along side Garchomp and uxie.
Last spot needs help..don't know what to pick.Anyone?

Sleep and sweep was going perfectly for me until round 45 where I got outsmarted... which is pretty bad :embarrass
The two times I had trouble were with a safegaurding Dragonite, who ended up just getting owned by Scizzor somehow, and then... Ursaring.
Turn 1, I use Yawn, he uses Return.
Then it turns out he has Toxic Orb, which I thought nothing of.
Then I realized, he can't be asleep if he's poisoned.
But regardless, I threw up reflect and after getting KO'd switched to Scizor.
Subsitute only stalled time since Ursaring started using Facade, and the whole Poison + Facade + Guts [which I think it had... could be wrong.] combo was pretty much shooting down my Subsitute Swords Dance combo.
It finally got itself killed, with me at like, 1/4 HP.
Out comes Machamp so I figure, mind as well give it a final blow, and use Superpower, bringing it down to 1/2 HP, then fainting from Brick Break or something.
I send out Garchomp, Earthquake, and prayed that an Ice type didn't come out.
Of course, Lapras came out.
I Outrage, getting it down to about 1/3 HP, it Ice Beams, I'm out.
Baaahaha I have a combination of bad luck and no clue.

Well, you can check out this which pokemon a trainer can have, so you know what to look out for. In this case, you could have used Knock-Off and proceeded to sleep it. A little preparation goes a long way. :D Although everybody else seems to disagree with me, I used to run a Garchomp with Yache Berry. It just gives that extra insurance.

So I have the whole "army" thing going but like Starmie/Meta/Regice, I have another really solid core that's going to be my Battle Dome and Battle Tower team. Enjoy and feel free to point out (third gen lol) weaknesses.

The Assassin

*smogon.com link removed*
Raikou @ Lum Berry
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef
Gentle / Docile Nature <-- I have both from Colosseum so I'll compare IVs and final stats and use the better one
- Calm Mind
- Thunderbolt
- Crunch
- Reflect

Raikou from Pokémon Colosseum is imperfect, but still a pretty nifty sweeper. Calm Mind and Thunderbolt are extremely obvious: Calm Mind turns Raikou into a powerhouse, and Thunderbolt is Raikou's reliable STAB attack. However, Hidden Power Ice is an incredibly rare find, so Crunch is its replacement. while hitting grounds is more of a challenge, Raikou cannot beat most of them anyways, so it's not a big deal. Crunch does hit Claydol and Psychics better, however, so it's not all bad news. Reflect replaces Substitute because the nature and IVs puts Raikou's defense at 155, which is very frail. Reflect puts it at 310, which will buy Raikou time to set up on weaker physical attackers and KO them with Thunderbolt. Lum Berry protects Raikou from status, especially paralysis.

The Staller

Suicune @ Chesto Berry / Leftovers
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 20 Def / 236 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Reflect
- Toxic
- Surf
- Rest

I got a Calm Suicune with so-so defense in Pokémon Colosseum, so I figured that I make use of it instead of trying for a better one again. This Suicune first throws up Reflect, effectively making Suicune's defense exactly 500 (that's how bad the IV was). Either way, 500 defense is up there with Steelix, making Suicune an impressive wall. Toxic bleeds out opponents' HP slowly but surely, while Surf speeds things up and provides a reliable STAB attack. It also allows Suicune to take out Pokémon like Rhydon quickly rather than slowly stalling out such a powerful foe. Suicune's immense special defense allows it to take most special hits, and unSTABed Thunderbolts bounce right off. Rest recovers health to stall even more, while Chesto Berry wakes up Suicune right away. Leftovers is an option too, as Suicune isn't always in a hurry to wake up.

The Finisher

*smogon.com link removed*
Slaking @ Choice Band
Trait: Traunt
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -Satk)
- Return
- Earthquake
- Shadow Ball
- Hyper Beam

Choice Band Slaking is the best finisher in Pokémon, no questions asked. STAB Return will easily OHKO almost everything that doesn't posses a resistance or immunity to the attack, and those that do will be at the mercy of Hyper Beam. Even reliable physical walls like Weezing fall in one hit to Slaking's second STAB, and while using Hyper Beam might seem stupid, Slaking has the infamous Traunt ability, so it doesn't really matter. Slaking's enormous power combined with its underrated defenses (150 HP/100 Def can wall a lot of stuff, especially in the frontier) make it a good Choice Bander in general. Earthquake is for absolutely crushing Metagross and doing a lot of damage to Steelix, while Shadow Ball hammers Dusclops and beats down Gengar. Slaking's power and speed are especially useful in the unpredictable Battle Frontier.

If I woulda known about that Toxic Orb I defintely woul have knoked it off.
But I didn't even know about the list of trainers and stuff... that helps a lot. Thanks! ^_^

Hey! I have a Question about the the Battle Tower, I am going with a Spore Sub Belly Drum Baton Pass Smeargle, I need to know what would be a good Physical Attacker for the Battle Tower to Baton Pass into? What should the Moveset, Nature IV's EV's be?

Also would it be good to use a Vaporeon for my last slot? If not what should I use, (suggest Attacker or Wall not Pokemon)

~Thanks :)

Smeargle? In Battle Tower? My friend tried a similiar Smeargle and he only made it to 28. But, if you used the right combination of pokemon, you might get to 50+, although it's kinda challengin. Uhm, you should use something that can do some hard hitting, especially if you're using Belly Drum. Hmm, Vaporeon would probably work as you'd be able to switch it in even if your Seargle outsped the opponents pokemon with Baton Pass. As for a set for Vaporeon, I'm trying this in my SSS team. It does a good job of walling but watch out for what you wall.

Vapoereon @ leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
IVs: Uhm, 31 in all stats, but realisitcally, a good IV set is fine. As long as they're in HP, Def and SpAtk
EVs: 252HP:252Def:6SpAtk
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- HP [Electric]
- Toxic/Wish

The slot would be up to you. Wish might not work well seeing as it's 3v3 but Toxic would be awesome because it powers up each turn, plus you have that ability to wall most stuff. HP [Electric] can' really be replaced with anything else. Then again, my best record in BT was with an Anti Lead Weavile, Super Effective Electivire (hits 13/17 typings for x2 or x4) and a Blissey with Seismic Toss. That was on a friends game and I got to 78 wins. Good luck.

PS: Almost forgot your physical attacker. Not sure. As I explained, I used a fairly offensive team and my physical attackers were Electivire and Garchomp.

Hello there. I've had a go at the battle tower with the following poke's n have had over 50 wins n I'm still going. Just wanted all your experienced opinions.

Tyranitar @ Expert belt
Sand Stream
Brave
252 Atk / 232 SAtk / 26 Spd
- Fire Blast
- Ice Beam
- Crunch
- Earthquake
I like tyranitar so much because he sets up sand to get rid of annoying focus sashs and can hit a lot of different types right off the bat.

Gliscor @ Leftovers
Sand Veil
Jolly
252 HP / 216 Spd / 42 Atk
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Ice Fang
- Roost
Gliscor is a great match for tyranitar as they help each other out. Tyranitar sets up sand for gliscor and gliscor covers ttars terrible fighting weakness.

Empoleon @ Focus sash
Torrent
Modest
252 SAtk / 252 Spd / 6 HP
- Agility
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Grass Knot
I no, I should really be using a petaya berry with this guy but I can't get my hands on one. Anyway, Empoleon gives this team some well needed special attacks and covers gliscors ice weakness.

Rate away please and don't leave any stone unturned...

DD tar is WAY more effective in the tower so i say go all the way on that..
Gliscor is Looking good..
Focus sash on empoleon with all those resists?
I would have to say go with LifeOrb on empoleon and give DD tar lum berry.
@anti....that team is nice i just took a break from the usual D/P battle tower and won all the silver symbols with CB gross(Thanks)/calm mind latias and toxic/staller walrein.:)thanks for the help you gave.Gold is too darn hard.
I think im gonna try doubles battle tower in my diamond to see if i can get a record that is worth going on that scoreboard.
And to beachboy..i beleive im third on the singles list please update:(

Ok thanks for the advice. I'll make the changes n hope I can continue through the battle tower even further. Cheers!

I dont have a whole lotta experience with trick teams but what i know is togekiss would be a better lead as it can np pass and is bulker.Maybe you should try completly crippling the lead then setting up with chomp/luke.

Lucario @ Salac berry
Modest
Inner focus
Evs: 252sp.att/252spd/6hp
Substitute
Calm mind
Dark pulse
Aura sphere

Garchomp @ Lum berry
Jolly
Sand veil
Evs: 252att/252spd/6hp
Sword Dance
Outrage
Earthquake
Substitute

Try this out.

Why would I need sub on this aswell? it just seems weird

Try this out.

Changes are in Bold, BTW I already have all of em shiny, and also, the Garchomp is Adamant, Lucario is Timid, I think it's fine, and I have them Shiny and with 31 IVs in what they need, I dont want to Swap em }:|

starmie does'nt learn baton pass or np in d/p so i dont know what your doing unless this is platinum.
calm mind and sub alow you to boost your sp.att/def to soaring places along with NP.Sub is so you can increase your speed by going down to salac Range.
Sub on garchomp to hid as an assurance incase a quick claw user/faster pokemon outruns and kos you and trust me after reaching 123 wins...i beleive sub is way better then FF as a boosted outrage 2kos atleast every steel in the tower.

lol..heres your togekiss set
Note this is not mine but taken from eppie so credits to him.

Togekiss @ Focus Sash
Nature: Impish (+Def -Atk)
Trait: Serence Grace (Not that it matters)
252 HP / 128 Def / 128 SpD

- Yawn
- Flash
- Charm / Reflect/baton pass
- Light Screen/NP

Then you can setup one of your opponents

yeah you could np,yawn then baton pass when he falls asleep, setup a sub and sweep or yawn,np(poke falls asleep),baton pass ,sub and sweep.
chomp for back up.make it a scarf chomp if you want.
garchomp @ choice scarf
