They are saying the feature to implement Display Names is a vB4 feature, that we'd need to upgrade to implement it. I personally don't get what's so bad about vB4 anyway.

Zet, I doubt we'd switch entire forum software just for the display name features. xD;

Also, I've seen some vB4 forums that managed to make it look decent, buuuut PC is a vB3 forum, and wouldn't feel the same on vB4. It'd take a lot of re-doing, and we'd have no skins, and we'd lose some features that were made to function on 3. x_x

This. ^
Actually, I coded that ghetto nickname plugin for vB3 (And it's still not totally done). I was thinking that perhaps we could introduce this as a VIP perk or something. That way,
A. Users have incentive to donate if they haven't already
B. We won't have a bazillion people asking for constant nicknames.

And with this, names are set via the ACP. I could try to make a user cp option, but I'd have to learn more HTML and learn vBulletin's product system. But I'd love to tackle coding a nickname system for us (That's better than this hunk of crap) once I finish Computer Sciences. c:
You know PHP/SQL? 0-0

vB3 is more sexier, sleeker, and more adaptable than the, imo the ugly, vB4...

I'd like it if this forum would stay on vb3 forever, no matter how outdated it gets. vb5 looks really ugly and reminds me of the IP.board layout. I think vbulliten3 looks great with some good themes. (as a side note, I'm currently using the theme "Plusle's Play Date")

I don't mind vB3 but I somehow think vB4 looks more modern and futuristic. I dunno, I don't mind the way it looks.

IMO the best of the lot is vB3. It might not practically be the best, but we're used to it most... And then there's the reason people tend to hate vB4 and vB5. Lol, try going back to the default vB3 skin and tell me you like it? Well most people around here (Not everyone) have only seen the default vB4/vB5 skins. I mean, imagine those layout with like one of your favorite skins all fixed up to fit the design, and omg! It's just intriguing.

I just thought of this yesterday, I've been anti-vB4 forever :/

Well we have to try them with the skins our very own Jake is brilliant at making, so uhm, shall wait and see :>

Let's just hope vB5 is out before we get forced to change, cause vB3 is losing any supports and plug-ins are getting less by the week :/

vB5 doesn't look that bad, but it looks way too cramped... I hate cramped interfaces...

Bulbagarden still doesn't look as impressive as some other VB3 forums around. For vB4 it looks okay, but 4's setup just makes it hard to work with, it's layouts all look like they're in weird pieces, and have trouble blending. x__x I mean, PC would still be fun, and would have new features, but appearance is a big part of success unfortunately.

Yeah, that'll be a very unfortunate disadvantage. Of course, this is the reason we can only wish for vB5 to be out by the time we absolutely need to convert, because it's more more less a more organized version of vB4 imo...
I tried porting my vBulletin 3 theme to vB 4, but it was so confusing and I couldn't do it.
Sucks for all of us :/

One of the things that I've noticed is that it's usually a better idea to remake a skin entirely, if not dump it, in favour of porting an old forum skin (unsuccessfully). I've noticed that some of the best Bulbagarden styles were either brand-new or remade. I think if PC were to upgrade, and it's a matter of when, we need new forum skin artists, and fast!

After a quick look, all of their skins are way too busy. I have to say, though - the Mobile Skin there (which I'm assuming is part of vB4) is great. Except for showing the thread title in every post :\

Hey, at least they weren't ports from vB3. Now that's... different.

I like a lot of their skins personally, they did a good job of remaking some of their skins when they moved to vB4, but their newer ones I really like a lot of the time, though Im honestly not that picky when it comes to themes as long as it's nice to look at and you can read everything easily( in other words the colors aren't to bright).

When I was an active member I wasn't a fan. They all looked the same to me, like something about the skill of our skin artists makes every skin look very different, but it seemed in theirs that it was the exact same with just a new picture/color scheme slapped on top. Which raises the question of if they just didn't know how to skin it in a unique way, or if the software has changed in a way that makes unique skinning more difficult.

Talkin' about Bulba? Yeeeahhh, well really most vB4 forums have off looking layouts, it's not just them. I have yet to see a vB4 forum that didn't look choppy. Heck, Janime wasn't even trying when last I checked on them. XD; They stuck with default skins. 8|
