This was what I had for getting off the boat, when I was writing it up much earlier:
Finally arriving in Littleroot town, the next day, Cody, despite not living to far from this town, had now seen it for the first time. While not that big the calm forests surrounding the town reminded him of home.
After they got off the boat, Cody was at a loss of what to do. He looked at his pokemon as though for guidance, but Brumae just stared blankly back.
"Well I suppose we could start by going north and catching some new pokemon," he mused.
As he walked to the trail going north contemplating and not paying attention, he was intercepting the path of someone wearing a labcoat, carrying a large number of trays, threatening to fall over any second. The man carrying the trays had not noticed Cody, and neither having time to react, ran into each other, trays flying everywhere. Having sensed the impending danger however, Brumae was nowhere near the accident (this made Cody wonder later if his pokemon let him crash on purpose as though for its own amusement).
"I'm so sorry!" Exclaimed Cody, getting up and attempted to fix up the fallen trays, despite what would probably be a few bruises.
"It's quite alright son, it's my fault for carrying more than I could. Say, I've never seen you around here before, are you here for a pokemon?"
"Nah, I've already got one, but I am starting out." Cody said, pointing out his Eevee.
"Oh beautiful Eevee, did your parents give it to you?" The professor asked.
The words were out before Cody could stop himself, "no, Esthin gave it to m, he-"
"What did you say?" The professor grabbed both of Cody's shoulders as though trying to shake out a confession. "Do you expect to cause trouble in these parts? I think I'll just call the authorities, and let them deal with you instead." He tightened his grip, and began to try to lead Cody back into his laboratory, but Cody did not comply.
"No! Let go! I didn't know what it was that he wanted... I just, I don't know what to do now... I didn't want to help him since first meeting him, I promised myself never to hurt anyone again... I'd rather help those in need..." Cody said silenty.
"What's your name boy?"
"Co-Cody Nivalis." Cody stammered, now on the brink of tears.
The professor seemed to understand, and sighed, "I am Professor Birch. He sent you to shake up Lance's plans?"
Cody nodded.
"Then it is most likely that there are others." Professor Birch sighed again, now releasing his hand from Cody's shoulder. "Cody, if you can stop those other trainers from gaining the upper hand, it would surely help us and keep the peace."
Cody looked at him, a little bit more lost, he didn't want to get caught in between some kind of war, and yet, he wanted to help those that were being affected by this Esthin guy.
"I'll help if I can..." Cody said slowly.
"I appreciate it. Now I'll let you get on your way, you still have all day to catch up with the others I've sent forth." Cody watched as the professor took the trays again and walked back into his laboratory, whistling.
Looking for his pokemon, he suddenly felt a substantial weight on his shoulders.
"Eevee!" Brumae cried.
Cody smiled at his pokemon, and walked north.
