Suggestion: Disable Quick Reply

    I think we should disable quick reply until the double posting glitch is killed for good. It's happening even more frequently now than before and in one thread in Pokemon Clubs it happened eight times somehow.

    Thoughts?
     
    Yes, it's usually underneath the ad :P It worked for a while but there has been a glitch since the new server arrived that causes double posts in longer threads.
     
    I use quick reply for at least 50% of my posts and I've never encountered any double post glitch. I don't want to see it go, though D:
     
    Although I was using Quick Reply, yesterday I triple posted because of forum lag. The double post glitch also often happens in threads with hundreds of posts, so those threads ought to be remade. Is Quick Reply the culprit, who knows. I use it all the time and the glitch happened like, twice.

    Damn, thanks to Ad-Block I don't even have ads =D
    I'm missing the whole bottom part of Pokecommunity xD

    Exactly same here, only once or twice I have had it happen to me and when I double click it (when on my phone) it gives me the warning of duplicate post and on a computer I use sometimes.

    I don't have Ad-Block, I have Restricted-Wifi, it works ten times better xD I only get the top ad and that's rarely.

    I have Adblock as well, but the quick reply area isn't blocked for me. So I'm not sure why you aren't seeing it. It's the area at the bottom below the last post and the Sponsored Links box with the reply box.
     
    I actually use quick reply for the majority of my posts x: But getting rid of it or disabling it wouldn't bother me because it's only just an extra click to get to the normal reply page. I'm on board with disabling with until the problem gets solved if it helps.
     
    If there is a problem it's somewhat minor but if it starts building and affecting more people then I would have to agree with Vanille Sky, to disable it until there is a way to fix it.

    (Even though I'm using it now, and use it on my phone, and pretty much only use the other way when I quote someone on computer or phone.)
     
    I'd really rather not. I don't think the double posting happens nearly enough to take away such a convenient thing (I mean, look at this thread - 0 double posts in 11 replies so far - that's not a major issue to me). It appears to happen in particularly huge threads and when it does, it's only a few clicks to delete the second post. Comparing that to the fact that everyone would have to use the full editor to post in threads, most of which aren't even impacted by double posting, it's way more hassle to disable it than to just put up with it and delete double posts as need be.
     
    If memory serves, originally PC didn't even have Quick Reply. If you get used to just clicking "Reply", and typing in that window, it is true that the double posting won't happen. .w. I've been trying to get used to that. As convenient as it is, sometimes it's literally quicker to load the full reply window and post that way, than it is waiting for Quick Reply to send and double post.

    In it's defense, though, it only seems to happen in high-traffic threads. I was posting around in C&M earlier and it didn't happen once.
     
    It just happened to me in this thread, https://www.pokecommunity.com/threads/319280, which isn't a high traffic thread at all.

    There was no lag, no anything. It happened instantly and I only hit submit once, and when I saw my post, I saw an edit notice saying that my post was merged.

    I really don't care what happens to the quick reply (I use it, but I'll adjust if it's disabled for a while) but why is this happening in the first place?
     
    I think allowing a few double posts more than makes up for the ability to use quick-reply - it's easily the most used feature on the site for a lot of users and I'd hate to have to into the advanced editor each time just to make a quick post.
     
    Just so you all know, the quick reply relies on javascript and YOUR computer to process the post, if your computer is slow or limited in RAM, it may end up double-posting.

    Aside from having a good connection and decent computer with enough ram (i.e. 4GB+) there isn't a lot we can do except to suggest that if your replies seem to get a lot of doubles, use the standard reply button located at top and bottom of each thread.
