Guys, I'm about to get a lot of money back from a pension. I'll be buying a couple laptops and would love suggestions on things to splurge on with the spare cash. It'll be between $1K and $2K, maybe more. :3

A really cool gaming system

Save your money. You can thank me later.

What sort of gaming system? I'm not much of a console gamer, though I love retro games if that's a thing.

Yeah, but… save it for what? A car? A house? A PC? o.O

I have family that can take care of me for a while after I'm 18, and I desperately need a computer…

Oh by the way half the pension is going in the bank each month anyway.

But an alienware laptop. There goes all your money.

Or you could buy some really crap laptop and then just buy a whole bunch of upgrades for it to make it run almost as good as an alienware and still maybe have a little bit of money left over.

Or you could always fund the 'sonata has a panasonic toughbook from like 2001 that he uses for everything he does and desperately needs a new laptop' charity.

Me. Give me money pls alex :)

You could donate to my charity. Joaquin needs a Porsche as his first car :p

You could save it. If you want a desktop, though, you can build a really nice one for about $1000. For gaming or otherwise.

Also, you said you like retro gaming?
Atari Flashback 5 (There's one for the Sega Genesis, too.)

I should be doing homework but when your assignment is to read a textbook, it's kinda hard to want to start.

I'm actually pretty frustrated because the new graphic design intern at my old internship office has been pestering me for help with the website via email... I don't work there anymore you guys please. She already has her own office email and all that jazz so I'm assuming she'll end up hired by the end of the internship period. You chose not to hire me for whatever reason despite how well I knew pretty much everything so that's your loss. But it's hard to refuse to help when Ryan (co-worker) still hasn't even emailed me my recommendation letter and is one of my references. :( He's the one who requested I help her out a bit so she could settle in.

But I did have an interview yesterday which I think went pretty well! She said she'd let me know by next week.. really crossing my fingers. Want to move on from internships and dead-end part-time work, lol.

Hey, it's pretty cool to hear you're moving on up, Sheep! Stay positive!

You might just have to grin and bear it for the time being, about the emails. You could try contacting Ryan and telling him that you need the letter of recommendation post haste. Them not hiring you doesn't only mean you miss out on working there, though. They miss out on you doing any work for them. If Ryan isn't going to write that letter, you might have to do without it, if possible. At least it would be better than being extorted for labor.

Take what I say with a grain of salt, of course. Only you can know the best course of action to take, or not to, as it is your life. Regardless of what you do, though, good luck! I wish you the best. :)

But I have to buy my family new PCs, though! This Compaq Presario of theirs from 2008 stinks…

Internships can really stink unless you have others supporting you for them. My mother, and also my aunt (including her delegates) are all in support of me provided I'm working towards a career. Ergo, I'm on my own if I want to work at Wal-Mart, otherwise yeah, here's a living room! :P

IT really is my bag, baby. And software dev is my passion. Developers, developers, developers, developers. Steve Ballmer is talking about me.

It's too young for a full time job, at least where I live.

Yeah, for full time it is, but where I live kids may work 8 hours a week from their 13th. And in holidays they may work 35 hours a week.

Where I went to school the work permits they gave out said that as long as you were 15 and your parents signed off on it you could work as much as you want so long as you didn't get more than 1 F on your midterms. But who wants to work full time and maybe even overtime when you're 15?

As a minor I'm looking at pretty much volunteer résumé candy right now. My aunt has told us that it's really unnecessary for me to be labouring at all, and to be honest she's kind of right. Kroger on a résumé is going to do nothing for me and the money I don't need (and technically would get for free without). If I'm going to do things professionally it's something I need to do.

She was also talking with me in the car yesterday about a website called Fiverr. She's a customer there and was telling me about all of the stupid shit people will pay $5 for someone to do for them, such as transparencizing images, "oilifying" photos, and other things that I could get around $2.35 a job for. She explained to me some incredibly wise logic about the logistics of the money: "People of lesser intelligence would say something along the lines of 'that's nowhere near enough money for what I'm doing! Heck, that's not even minimum wage hardly!' but the difference is that it's money you don't even have to get up off your ass to earn. You could make minimum wage in your pajamas at 3PM on a Saturday as opposed to buying work clothes, dealing with shitty people and long hours, and doing shit that's actually not even as easy." I was wowed :o
