Do you think Pokémon is childish?

Do you think of Pokémon as a kid's series?

Pokemon is childish. It doesn't matter if a few adults play it; it doesn't dispute the fact that it is aimed for children.

I strongly disagree that Pokemon is childish. I have a few reasons why.

Firstly, people usually assume that it is childish because of the anime. Personally, I don't like the anime however it annoys me when people assume that the games and anime are the same thing. One's a game, ones anime. They are both different!
Secondly, I also hate it when people say that Pokemon is childish because of the designs. They are (I think and hope) trying to aim it at all ages. So, if they make large zombies w/ decapitate heads or something offending, then its no longer for all ages.

Anyway, the point is, many people just assume Pokemon is childish because of the anime. Couldn't you at least try the games first before you inaccurately call something 'childish' when you haven't even tried it 'fully'. Personally, I find the games diverse, where you can pick the Pokemon which you want to use and level those 6 (or more or less) up and use them. Pokemon isn't just about Pikachu people. :\ Also, going a bit off-topic, but its funny that Mario doesn't get as much critism yet it has cute turtles, mushroom people and cute (in my opinion) ghosts. By the way, I'm not ranting about Mario, I'm just comparing two games made by nintendo. ;)

Well pokemon is afterall an all ages game.
My aunt claimed back her pokemon gold from me. The anime is childish in some terms but I don't think the game is; it can be played in many different ways and can be pretty fun as well.

I don't think pokemon in general is childish at all.

I view Pokemon as a kid game just because it's cutesy and happy and very accessible for children. That doesn't stop me from loving it though and I'm 22.

I vote that this poll fails. Why? Because there's no in-between. Pokemon has some characteristics of a cutesy-kiddy genre, but also it has some stuff that I would only show a teenager. Tyranitar, Mewtwo, Charizard etc. It's kind of oblivious to pretend that Pokemon is all adultish because it's not. Let's get used to that lol. That's why I refused to vote.

This guy has it. I also never got a response to, "Do you believe there is a different between "childish" and "kids series"?"
I'm a girl, lol. Also, to answer the question, "childish" is a word used in more of a derogatory manner like "immature" is, whereas "kids' series" simply describes something as being intended for children.

I have to correct you there.

I have actually known plenty of adults to enjoy Pokemon. Adults that were well into their 20's/30's by the time Pokemon came to the USA. My mom, for example, enjoyed watching the show with us when it came on in the 90's for the first time. She actually looked forward to watching it every morning. Her favorite Pokemon was Pikachu. She also liked Jigglypuff. My ex best friends dad also liked Pokemon. He loved playing the games. He had them all. Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver, Crystal, Sapphire and Ruby. (the only ones that were out at the time) And he had the spinoffs, too. He watched the show AND collected the cards. The people that got me into the card game were a married couple that were into their 20's. They went to my church. They collected the cards and played the game. They didn't watch the show that often, but enjoyed it from time to time. They took me and my sister to see Pokemon: the First Movie. I could keep going; but you get my point.
I can't really see older people getting into Pokemon that weren't at least somewhat into it as kids (though I could be wrong). I see it appealing to the older crowd in more of a nostalgic way, with new twists and features to keep it going.
Never said it was the definite truth. :p

I don't watch the anime much, so I can't give a decent opinion on if it is aimed more for children or not. As for the games, no, I do not think they are chilidish. Think about it; do you really believe a 7 year old is going to even know how to beat the Pokémon League? I seriously doubt it. As for the manga, I actually think it is aimed more at the higher age group. Would I ever admit I play Pokémon at school? Uh, no. Never. :cer_no:

It's a hobby. Some people like model airplanes, model cars, etc. Pokémon is simply another hobby someone has. Not childish at all.

Pokemon I don't think is childish. We just live in a world where adult games have to have shooting and violence. Pokemon is for all ages. I would have to say the anime is what makes people judge that the game is childish because I think the anime is aimed more towards a younger crowd. Whatever the case, I still love playing it and that is all that matters.

Everyone said good things here and what I came to say would only be a repeating noise...

But yes, I think it's childish. The show, definitely. The other franchise as well, since it's mostly about toys of some sort. The games, well... they are children games more so than some other games, and less than some are.

I've stopped debating this question with myself long time ago. I grew up with Pokémon, my whole generation here did. Some got more attached to the phenomena (!) than others did (*is shot*)

But here, the ones who don't still know the name of the yellow mouse with red cheeks, and at least two more "pockemons", they're the weird ones in my age ;)

At my school, i get made fun of for playing this game, its not like i do it publically, but i mean come on. its the greatest franchise, hands down.

The anime, I guess it is for kids, though it is hard to stop being addicted to something you love.

The game, no way. The game is for anybody, weather you 5, or 25. Its for everybody.

Here, the entire franchise is not just for children.

It is for geeks and nerds. People aren't called a little kid if they say the like Pokemon, they're pretty much shunned and thought of as a nerd. They are below those that enjoy manga and other animes.

...which is why no one at school can know I still play it.

But, yes. It's aimed at children for the most part. I mean, really, can you see your parents playing it? Sure, a 20-something year old can play it, but parents? It's just... weird in my mind. I can't see my parents ever wanting to play it.

Not at all. Not even a tiny bit! Poke'mon may be old. But older players are free to play Poke'mon games/watch it on tv if they want. In my opinion. :D

To be frank, I do think the anime is aimed for older kids. The plots of the episodes aren't very "deep", it can get a tad repetitive and Ash is... well, Ash is Ash. That isn't to say that older people can't enjoy it, more like the opposite, but I think that was the original idea of the anime.

The games, in the other hand, are like most Nintendo games: clean and funny enough for kids, but really aimed for all ages. Anyone can enjoy them, really, as long as they enjoy that kind of game. Mario games are also like that. Even older children might not get everything out og the games because of their young age, so it's definitely not a "kids' game".

The toys? Totally aimed for children. Of course, I want a Pikachu plushie, too, and I just reached the age of maturity this month, so it's not like it's restricted for kids only. But I can bet kids are just the age group the manufacturers think of when designing new Pokémon toys.

Breeding, EV training and contests? Totally not for children  Even a fully grown-up person can lose their patience with those!

So, my answer is yes and no. ^-^

I only watch the anime if there is a new movie, new pokemon or a very good battle.
I always play the games theyre awesome and im 12.
The manga has some strange images. In 1 chapter blue ripped her shirt off and there were pokeballs instead of boobs.

Nice! which manga? Anyways, I'm one year from adulthood but I still love and will always love Pokemon as I have for the last 12 years. Definatly not childish

most of the people at my school say so but I don't beleive them

Well not at all, espcially the games, I see no childish about pokemon, few adults play pokemon and watch the anime.
