[PokeCommunity.com] Does anyone actually want Hm's to return?

does anyone actually want to see the return of Hm's

No. HM moves are nothing more than a waste of a moveslot (with Surf and Waterfall being the only exceptions, really). I like the system they implemented in Sun and Moon much more.

Although, if they're going to bring back smaller obstacles, like small trees and rocks, they should make Key Items to remove those.

I agree, the system they introduced in Sun and Moon is a lot better, it eliminates the need to waste a move slot or to have a Pokemon on your team just as an HM slave, I like it.

Yes and no. I think they should return, but instead of moves, they should work more like the field effects of Pokémon abilities. So if you have a Staraptor or a Noctowl on your team you can Fly on it instead of Charizard, and if you have a Starmie or a Milotic you can use them to Surf instead of Lapras, with the respective moves not required to be on the Pokémon's moveset.

I have to agree with the previous comments here, HMs as they were, can stay in the past. If they did want to do away with the summons, adding key items (similar to what was done in Zeta/Omicron) that preform the same tasks would be great. I'm currently playing a fangame, and it's reminded me how annoying needing a useless HM to progress can be. Espeically when you're far away from a PC and don"t want to gimp one of your team member's movesets with something like Rock Smash. ENJOY THE LONG WALK BACK TO THE PC, THROUGH THE TALL GRASS (or cave), NEWB!

This is going to sound weird, but I actually kind of do. I wasn't a competitive battler so "wasting" a move slot didn't matter as much (though was a minor annoying thing to deal with if I liked my current move set), it felt kind of cool how "Oh my Pokemon could learn this special move! Awesome!" (I'm a big kid, alright).

It'll be cool if they did something like Pokemon Ranger, similar to what Alakazam said, is that Pokemon that could fly, typically could just fly. Could do something where it has to be a certain level or fully evolved.

i hope they never come back, but i honestly wouldn't be surprised if the idea is scrapped outside of sm/usm

I really would like some improvement to the Pokémon pager, like less Pokémon, and/or the ability to train and use your own Pokémon for that, but it's still ten thousand times better than HMs. I hate having to make my team around HMs all the time, and I hate going somewhere only to find out I don't have Rock Smash or something.

I'd like to see a version of Ride Pokémon become the norm from now on. HMs are an awfully contrived system that breaks immersion and wastes time, and I hope they either stick with Ride Pokémon (unlikely imo, as characters in SM did comment on how that was something unique about Alola) or figure out a better alternative.

While I do enjoy the Poke Ride in S/M as an alternative to HMs, the fact it's mentioned that Poke Ride is something unique to Alola gives me doubt it'll return in future generations.

Only for nostalgic purposes. But the Poke Ride feature is objectively better for convenience, practicality, and overall enjoyment because you can use the pokemon you want. If I had to choose, I would probably stick with the Pike Ride feature but expand the number of pokemon available for each feature.

While I would love for field moves that are usable outside of battle to return, I think some of those moves would be better off as key items (particularly Cut, Surf, and Flash especially). I sure wasn't happy that S/M no longer allows field moves, even Dig (which, although was never an HM, was an excellent substitute for Escape Ropes).

Having HMs around, though does require players to strategically plan their Pokémon teams throughout the time they go through the game's storyline, something that I've always done by boxing earlier Pokémon and replacing them with others along the way. Though I will say, I was not all that impressed with there being so many Water HMs (particularly in OR/AS).

I admit that able to use my choice of pokemon for my team was pretty good. Maybe HMs can just be TMs so you don't have to keep the moves later on? Or we can stick with pokeride.
