Hi everyone, I haven't been on much because the skin on my hands and fingers is so dry, it splits open and causes too much pain to type.

    Honestly.

    And nothing works.

If you know of a waterproof or fast acting moisturizer or even a home made noxious goop passed down from your great great great grandmother who was a witch burnt at the Salem trials, please tell me.

Have you tried just straight up olive oil?

I know what you mean. I've never had my hands be THIS dry before. I came home yesterday to them being white where my fingerprint would be because they are soooo dried out. I've been using Jergens lotion before going to bed to see if it will help. My issue is always washing my hands at work because of everything I touch. It's hard to wear gloves because I have short, stubby fingers and my hands sweat if I wear them to long.

Try using Jergens lotion with moisturizer in it. That always seems to help.

Try body body butters and oil like
sweet almond oil, shea or cocoa butter. They have vitamin E in them, which is really good for the skins cells. It's deeply hydrating to dry skin, and soothes inflammation if your hands are cracked or red, has a natural sun block component, (especially the ones like cocoa butter that have vitamin c too, which promotes collagen) a general skin toner and helps even out marks, and can even help with some skin diseases. If you apply to the skin especially after a shower or bath it seals the moisture in.

I prefer to purchase the raw ingredients, which you might find at the drug store, definitely at a beauty supply chains, I personally like to by from sellers on Etsy. You can always just look for lotions though too that have things that have things in them like vitamin E, shea, jojoba oil etc. As memory serves Aveeno was a brand that worked for me.

If you look in the cooking oil section of the grocery store you can find certain oils that are suitable for skin care. Coconut oil for instance is a source vitamin E too, and a little dab can be rubbed into the skin as a quick fix, avocado oil is good too.

Another tip, may be good to look into the brands soap, dishwashing liquid, laundry detergent etc or anything that your skin is coming into contact with regularly that could possibly be drying it out. Hand sanitizer, something we all should use, can get especially drying.

I've had the same problem with so much hand sanitizer. I feel ya.

For a quick fix I discovered Neutrogena Hydro Boost and it has been my lifesaver. I got the hand lotion and it quickly hydrated my hands after so much sanitizer. Highly recommended!

Oils in general are good for softening and moisturising skin. Just be careful cause it can clog pores if you do it too often, especially if you're acne prone. I think that's true of most oils though.

Does it matter if it's extra virgin olive oil?

Ugh right every since I started washing my hands waaay more for Covid, I also have dry skin. I use Eucerin Skin Calming lotion, which does wonders for me. I recommend drinking more water and/or changing the products you're using. There are gentle/nourishing soaps and hand sanitizers on the market now.

It's the climate, the winter's here are super dry, and my hands keep cracking open.
It's spring now and they're still bone dry.

Also drinking water is always good for your body, and will help replenish your skin and hair if it is dry. It's intuitive to drink water to cool down when it's hot outside, but water is something you want to have plenty of at all times of year, even in winter--that is when skin is often the driest, due to the lack of humidity in the air.

I have an aunt who turned 73 this year. She has gorgeous, smooth, golden skin without a single wringle in it. People do not believe her when she tries to use senior citizens discounts. They think she is a young person, especially because she is small and has this cute heart-shaped face and is always dressed very pretty. People ask her all the time what she is doing to look like this, and she says that she always liked to drink water. She doesn't have an elaborate beauty routine beyond that. Some of it is probably genetics, but I am sure her 8 glasses of day doesn't hurt either.

When we were kids Aunt Linda always told us to drink our water, and how good it is for your kidneys, or good for your "kittens" as I said as I child. I resisted at that age, and wanted soda every day--which did me no favors. I drink lots of water today however, and I can see the positive effect it has my body in multiple ways, skin, weight loss, energy level and more. So might want to up the water intake, it may help!

:( Sounds difficult - I don't have any remedies but I can imagine how frustrating that would be. My skin dries out when it is cold/windy and my legs get incredibly itchy, however this usually clears up by using a regular moisturiser from the supermarket every day. I don't think that would help in this specific case but I really do hope you find something to help.

I've had a problem with dry skin since I've been 16-17 years old. I first noticed it in my knuckles and then it kinda spread to other parts of my fingers. I also have a bad issue with dry skin on the underside of my toes and more recently patchy dry skin on both of my elbows.

I've never been a fan of lotion because of how slimy it feels right after application and I dunno why that bothers me

If your palms and such don't get dry, just rub it off. That's what I do.
As for me, I get itchy a lot too after application but my hands are red raw so.
