Favorite gaming system for Pokemon?

We've had Pokemon games on the Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Nintendo 64, Gameboy Advance, GameCube, Wii, Nintendo DS, Nintendo 3DS, and quite a few more. Which system did you enjoy playing Pokemon on the most?

I actually really like the 3DS at the moment. My 3DS XL fits my hands very well, and it's easy to see everything on the screen. However, not having played every game on every system, it's hard to judge. I've enjoyed using my DS and DS lite as well, but the size of the 3DS works well, and my screen is easier to see because I didn't put a screen protector on it that bubbled over time like the ones on my DS and DS lite did. On all of the DS-type systems, the backlight was a big plus. I spent way too much time trying to avoid glare while looking at various GameBoy screens with my wormlight, so I'm happy that that particular issue is in the past.

For consoles, I really liked the GameCube games, and those have to be about the best graphics we've had in Pokemon thus far. Using my TV wasn't as convenient as using a handheld, but my wireless Wavebird controller worked well. Connecting my GBA to it was a bit of a pain, though, due to the short length of the cable. I really like the N64 games, but I feel like I had to hold the controller kind of awkwardly to make sure the transfer pak stayed in properly with Stadium and Stadium 2, so that was a bit of a pain.

I have the best memories of the games from the GameBoy family of systems, though I don't think it was really because of the systems themselves. I started out on GB Pocket, which I enjoyed, despite the lack of color when all of my friends owned GBCs. As a result, I think I'm having less of an issue with the monochrome on the VC re-releases than a lot of people have. In any event, I spent most of my time in Red and the main story of Gold in monochrome. I then used my GBC for gens I and II for a bit (only for a few months before the GBA came out, so aside from gameplay and trading, a lot of my GBC Pokemon use was for Wonder Trade in GSC), and then GBA for gens I, II, and III. Then I switched to playing both then gen III and the gen IV and V games on DS, and now gen 6 and gen I remakes on 3DS.

So in summary: Best systems for playing Pokemon = 3DS XL and GameCube, best memories (and therefore, best time playing Pokemon) = GB family systems.

I really liked the GBC version. It's really bringing back all the old memories when playing Crystal version and other games like Harvest Moon.

It was the first pokemon game I ever played before. I also like GBA only because of the remake of R/B/Y.

I enjoy both DS and 3DS system since it provide more than just dual screens, it was functional all together

I'm a little in love with the 2DS. The first thing to break on most consoles prior, for me, was the damn hinge. So I used to have my DS lite and my GBA SP open all the time - not exactly portable. It's so nice knowing this console is probably going to have a longer lifespan. Plus, I actually find it more comfortable, which I didn't expect.

When it comes to consoles to play Pokemon, the 3DS is my favourite, as it has really awesome games like Pokemon X and Y, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon, and Pokemon Rumble Blast.

As for emulators, Visual Boy Advance and DeSmuME are my favourites.

The GBA was really comfortable and convenient for me. Though the DS and 3DS is undoubtedly better, it's just that at the time I was more excited playing Pokemon on the GBA than the 3DS today.

As far as handhelds go, I would like to say the GameBoy line. They didn't have dual screens, which I feel kept things more simple.

I really love the DS and 3DS and how they implement the dual screen. I'd say my favorite is my new 3DS. I had the old 3DS XL and even though the screen on my new 3DS is smaller I feel like the picture is much clearer, and to be honest it's easier to carry around.

The GBA SP. It's the best system outside of emulators for playing RBY/GSC. Lighted screen and rechargeable battery, why would anyone choose a Gameboy Brick over that?

The New Nintendo 3DS is tops IMO, with it's larger screens, lower weight than the XLs, excellent internet connectivity, and ability to run the latest main series Pokemon games, and Virtual Console R/B/Y.

But the GBA-SP rev. 2 brighter screen model with third gen titles was awesome - super lightweight, portable, best ever pre-DS screen, and having such a huge deep world of gams like R/S/E on such a tiny system - cool as can be!

I don't want to return to the days of playing in contorted positions to get enough light on the screen, but for pure nostalgia - it's my GBC. I envy anyone who was lucky enough to have one of the rare side-lit screen models. They were never sold in NZ.

A custom retropie console I built. But for official, I have to say the gbaSP.

Do you play and N64 games using it? I've been having trouble finding the best way to fix my lagging issues.

I'd suggest switching out for a pi 3 (if you can) to get better FPS.
N64's playable on my Pi 2 B, but does have audio lag.

If you have to stick to your hardware, try "turbo mode".
Open up "raspberry pi config tool raspi-config" in the settings menu and then select "Overclock" and then "Turbo Mode"

Yeah mine is a Pi 2 B and the audio is the worst. Just when I think I've got it right, I get proven wrong when the music plays lol. Mario Kart and other simple games are fine but LoZ - nope. The other emulators don't lag as much, even PSX, for some reason.

I'll try that, thank you :)

If you try turbo mode your pi may glitch out.
If it happens, hold Shift during boot.

Right now it is the Nintendo DS, but depending on how much I enjoy Sun & Moon that could change! My favourite titles are from the DS era, so naturally that would be my favourite console for the games currently.
