5th Gen Fifth Gen General Chat

Wasn't sure where to post this but does anyone know if you are still able to transfer Pokemon from Heart Gold and Soul Silver to Black and White?

Still works. :) As long as you have two DS systems you're still able to do it as it doesn't use WiFi, just local wireless.

Nice. Thank you very much.

I love the addition of Pokemon World Tournament! It's a good intro to competitive battling, I think.

Yeah, maybe. Honestly I never actually tried it. It was a cool concept. I think I entered the building and left... yeah. I didn't pay much attention to it because although it sounded cool and was cool I just couldn't be bothered battling. The only thing I wish I did was get to the top of the tower in B2 (and battle Alder's kid). I was so switched off during B2W2 days lol I think I just went through the storyline and stopped... and probably went back to Black/White. :')

Haha that's cool! But why were you so switched off?

Oh yes! A 5th Gen DCC. anyway, i started replaying my old White 2 Savefile on my trusty 3DS and its backwards capability. I figured i just hit my main team into lvl90s before I finally let the game go to rest, and transfer those mons into my Pokebank.

and yes i have a Cincinno in my main team because Skill Link is bawss. Though it doesn't really have much of a movepool but i remember my Cincinno being able to hold on its own during my initial playthrough of White 2, where I actually took it to the Elite Four and shoved several pieces of Skill Link in some faces.

Small things really. The introduction of older Pokémon really turned me off. I never really liked the new areas either. That and removing Route 10. The story was cool but I felt like the rest just tried to outdo BW and make people like them less (as they were p controversial games as it is). People still love Unova though so I guess that's all that matters.

That used to be so good competitively back in the early days. It pushed it right into RU :'( Skill Link is super good on it though. You could probably defeat the majority of opponents in game alone if it was levelled high enough and had enough coverage moves.

I remember back in the day everyone loved Minccino though as soon as it was announced. And then the love kinda went to other mons.

I always wonder about the regulations for gym challenges whenever I get to Mistralton's Gym. That and Iccirus Gym, where there's that ice ramp that sends the player hurtling across a bottomless gap.

Quite a few of Unova's Gyms are weird and could be dangerous. There's cannons, ice ramps, moving stone dragon heads, roller coasters, and walls of honey.

Guys it's because they really wanna make sure you're the strongest trainer ever. It's life or death, you either make it or you don't in Unova. Plasma mean business, the gym leaders know that and you HAVE to be prepared for them. They'll chuck everything they've got at you. If you severely injure yourself you're clearly not the chosen one... I mean N apparently is, but twin dragons and all. Two chosen ones. :)

It also helps that Unova's setting and BW 1 is "Darker and Edgier" than all of the other games combined. Its such a shame that this kind of thing will never be explored ever, and I doubt that Sun and Moon is going to have a story that's going to be quite serious and gravitationally pulling like BW1 will ever have.

I mean, take a good look of our lovely Unova Duo and then look at the S&M hero duo and you already know...

I have been thinking how much the female protagonist of S/M reminds me of Hilda design-wise, but with elements of May thrown in. All three trainers wear shorts and S/M girl also shares the same hair colour as Hilda, and wears shoes that are mainly black, and even the bag designs are similar, with Hilda's being a bit smaller.

Even if S/M's plot is good, I feel it will need a lot to live up to B/W's dark and edgy plot.

That's the thing really. No matter how many people hate on BW for not having older Pokémon, creating weird new designs (srs guys look at Barbaracle in Gen VI - Garbodor is royalty in comparison) and for being different to all the other games... there's no fighting it. BW is always going to have undoubtedly the best story in any game. Pokémon liberation is by far the most serious story theme they can possibly ever imagine because it hits home. Like, should we really keep the Pokémon locked up in poke balls or do they deserve to be free? It literally uses the one thing that could unravel the Pokémon fandom and puts it front and centre as an issue.

Other games tend to go with 'omg the world is going to be destroyed or omg they're going to take over the world or omg they're going to wipe us from the face of the planet'. It's all on a global scale, whereas in BW it's personalised. It's going to get to you emotionally, because you'll relate it to pets. Should we keep pets is the same dilemma as should Pokémon be locked up in poke balls. I would've absolutely loved if we did stop Ghetsis but instead everyone released their Pokémon at the end (after realising his message was good even though it was for bad reasons) or even had them as following Pokémon (which would have been the perfect tie in to bring the feature back.

The only thing that sucks is that morally it doesn't really affect people post game. I think if there were still 'free Pokémon' rallies or a sanctuary for freed Pokémon it really would have enforced the message that Ghetsis, despite being misguided, actually helped create a new Pokémon generation that doesn't take their Pokemon for granted.

Oh well, I loved the story anyway!

Hey guys, so with the await of gen 7 and my itchiness for rom hacks I wanna try to beat gen 5 using rom hacks for fun! I am playing through X the vanilla game and I have a rom hacked alpha sapphire to play as well but I haven't beat gen 5 so i gotta do it!

I have access to both white 2 and black 2 and plan to play them simultaneously to see if they are really that different and is the difference really game changing. My question is, is the original black and white worth playing?

Hum I am a fan f gen 5 so of course I'll say it is worth playing XD
But personally I liked even more Black2 ans white2. I.m.o you played the best one of the bunch (for gen5), but that's my opinion.
Of course if you find an emulator or someone who's selling the game for cheap, go ahead!

I'd say that B/W are definitely worth it to play, just for the story alone. You'll understand why Unova is the way it is in B2/W2. What will also happen if you play B/W is that you'll get an appreciation for the Pokemon introduced in the Fifth Generation, since there are no older Pokemon to fall back on (like there is in B2/W2).

Okay, I can find the original black and white! Question is are there any differences between the orignal black and white and would the gameplay be any different from the sequels? And I am using roms, how would i be able to link them to black and white 2 if i can do so?

Black and White are a million times better than B2W2 imo. Story-wise, no other game comes close. You'll also get to experience a brand new region with only new Pokémon. Nothing from the past, just a new start. It's just amazing.

The main differences are:

B2W2 introduced...
Pokémon World Tournament (a new battle all trainers thing)
Join Avenue (a cool mall like place that has super useful functions)
A different champion
A few different gyms
New areas

B2W2 hasn't got...
Route 10 (people's favourite place)
N's castle in its original form (you can visit it but it won't be as animated or as new and trust me you'll wanna see it new)
Much more backstory into characters

Roughly those are the main things. Game play is pretty much the same but you start in different parts of Unova in each game.

For memory link, just Google 'Unova link on a rom'. Second link will explain.
