Ghastly is NOT in the Hoenn Pokedex

    There are some Pokemon that appear in every single regional Pokedex since their generation debut. However, Ghastly was missing from the Hoenn Pokedex. But Ghastly was in the new Unova Pokedex later. I find this odd, that Ghastly is missing from the Hoenn Pokedex.

    What are Pokemon you find it odd to be absent from a regional Pokedex?

    I always found it odd some Pokemon were missing from the Hoenn Pokedex, but have been in every or most regional Pokedex after that (not including the original one in Unova), I also find it odd Clefairy wasn't in the Hoenn and Kalos Pokedexes, especially Kalos, since the Fairy type was introduced that generation.

    I'd say Pikachu being completely absent from the new Unova Pokedex is odd, but then again, Pikachu has been a rarer Pokemon to find up until generation six, so I guess it's really not all that weird.
     
    Shinx hasn't been found "naturally" in the wild since Gen 4, so there's that. You can argue that you can still find it in Gen 6 and 7, but usually through some roundabout ways like Friend Safari and Island Scanning.

    The Starly family is also absent in every Pokedex aside from Gen 6 and that's only in XY.

    nah, you're not mistaken. Starly is only in the Sinnoh & Kalos Pokedexes. But, all of the regional birds except Pidove are in the Kalos Pokedex, too. Which I find strange, they included all the regional birds, except Pidove.
     
    I'm disappointed that the Gastly line wasn't in the Hoenn Pokedex. However, it was also absent from the new Unova Pokedex. A big shame, as Gengar is one of my top favourite Pokemon.

    Weirdly enough, the Pikachu line wasn't in the new Unova dex either. Why would Game Freak exclude their own mascot from a regional dex? Not to mention that Psyduck and Zubat did make it in.
     
    There are a couple dozen pokemon lines that have only appeared in their regional dexes, and I'm really hoping at least a couple of them appear in S/S.
    The most egregious examples are Venonat, Krabby and Stantler that haven't appeared outside the Kanto and/or Johto dexes, ever. Krabby is definitely weird since almost every other water type has appeared in another dex at some point. Tyrogue used to be part of that list, but thankfully, Hitmontop appeared in a recent trailer.
     
    Wow, I really never took the time to notice how many pokemon didn't make it into so many gens. Hopefully Ghastly gets some better representation in the future!
