I've been sitting here looking aimlessly for music that fits my mood or genre-interest for awhile now and I've had this thread idea for just as long.

This is basically a game, but I want to avoid it being "post-baity" in the sense of a Forum Game, so this will also promote discussion (I hope)!

The objective is to post what sort of mood you're in or what genre you want to listen to (maybe suggest some sounds you like already to narrow it down). The following poster then gives you a song that fits what you're musically looking for to the best of their ability, while also telling you their reasoning for picking it. They can then post their own mood or genre for the next person to give them. A chain, if you will. The person who received the song can always reply and tell you what they thought of your song choice, but make sure people are getting their GaG/GaS (terrible acronym) fulfilled too. :)

    I will start us off!

Mood: Okay. Could always be better, but I have family coming into town later and I haven't seen them for a long time. It's going to be really nice to see them and visit. So I'm excited!

OR if this is easier to get things going...

Genre I Want: Alternate rock similar to Bombay Bicycle Club or Young the Giant

hopefully i'm doing this right, great idea btw!
I recommend Vampire Weekend, The Kooks, The Drums and Florida by STRFCKR

hopefully these bands are similar to what you're looking for. i think they all have that same fun upbeat style like bbc and yg do. incase you've already heard of vampire weekend and the kooks i thought i'd recommend one last group, the drums. all of their songs have a nice beachy vibe.

mood feeling relaxed on this nice friday evening, looking forward to the weekend and possibly practicing some more driving.

    o ya. this is cool.

relaxed? looking forward to something? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jOcTozRTRGo Yo La Tengo. really quite chill indie rock/noise pop/dream pop kind of stuff, usually very relaxing and comforting but still substantial and really quite adorable at the same time. and lots of emotion. the perfect indie rock band as far as I'm concerned.

my mood. feeling alright, the weekend's gonna be nice and more snow on the way! but alas that's not really the kind of music I'm looking for, I want something slightly uneasy, something that revels in monotony (but not in a monotonous way -- something that paints a picture of boredom while trying to rebel against it). okay this is too confusing -- give me something passively rebellious.

and if that's too difficult, just give me something with a pop sensibility that isn't overtly saccharine or straightforward.

ALSO I'm much better at giving suggestions than asking for them so don't feel too, like, iunno, pressured to give me something great. honestly I'd much rather recommend stuff to people than vice versa but either works really.

    >Slightly uneasy - check
    >rebellious - hmm, the build up in this fits this requirement somewhat
    Danger: 1:42

@maccrash , this song is so badass it could crash your mac sorry Anyways, the opening melody in the first few seconds give off a eerie vibe, then the instrumentation builds up to a climatic main theme that could fit in a grande rebellion action sequence in some film.

Mood: Looking for a mellow song for the weekend to chill out to. Maybe put it on repeat if it's that good :P

i'm listening to covergirl by rupaul right now and it fits so perfectly, too bad it falls under the genre of dance pop

though a song that always gets me wanting to do things and move around is big momma thang by lil' kim ft. jay-z
overtly sexual yes but i find that the beat gives me the drive to motivate myself to do whatever task is ahead of me

mood: restless but not frustrated or whatever, just looking for a decent song to tap into my leftover energy

Journey - Separate Ways (World's Apart)

    Best I can think of.

Mood: Misanthropic and filled with blackout rage. Give me the nastiest, misanthropic, hateful metal song you can think of. And it has to be real metal, none of that nu-metal, hair rock, deathcore, emo metalcore shit. If one of the band members was arrested for burning down a church, you're doing it right.

As for me, how about a lively rock song similar to Fat Lip by Sum 41 or Not the Same by Bodyjar?

Here's a few select choices of mine. Not all of them are "lively", but they're all in the same vein.

    The Misfit's Hybrid Moments
    The Germs' Lexicon Devil
    The Suicide Machines' High Anxiety
    The Explosion's Here I Am
The Living End's End of the World
Rollins Band's What's The Matter Man

Oops. Forgot to give my genre:

I'm really looking to get some mellow, almost-trippy type of music right now. I guess that would be...synth? Not sure on the exact genre. Something similar to Feel It All Around by Washed Out.

Mt. Eden - Sierra Leone. Don't let the "dubstep" part of the title put you off; it's actually really chilled out.

I don't have anything for gimmiepie, but I'm not going to request anything so the next guy can respond to him ;)

Mood: Unmotivated, slightly lonely and generally irritated with the establishment.
Genres to consider: Various rock and metal genres are my preferred choices but I can get into a few hip-hop, pop or even country songs too. So long as the vocal and music are good.

    Good luck :)

I don't know if this will help at all but I'll give it a shot XD

Usually when I'm feeling lonely I try and listen to some of my happier music, though I don't have a lot, but my top choices are the following.
Rather Be by Clean Bandit ft Jess Glynne. It's really catchy I think and it always seems to put a smile on my face even when I'm really stressed or upset.
Rebel Beat by The Goo Goo Dolls. I like this song because it has a very nice upbeat sound to it but the song itself is also really good and I just really like his voice. So it may help not sure.

Metal though when I'm feeling angry or upset and just want to let my anger out I'll usually listen to Five Finger Death Punch. I like their music because for some I know some people like rock and heavy stuff but not all the screaming that sometimes accompanies it but with 5FDP they have some screaming but in a way you can still understand the words and that means so much to me. I can still hear the message they are trying to get across. Their music various of course for the more angry sounding music but also can be very mellow and soothing.
For angrier songs I enjoy Burn it Down, War is the Answer, Bulletproof, Dot Your Eyes, or Burn MF
but when I want more mellow songs I'll listen to M.I.N.E (End this Way), Undone, Crossing Over, Remember Everything and also Wrong Side of Heaven which is kind of a mix of both I think but I really like all their music so I'm sorry if you have listened to any of these already but that is just my two cents!

    ---------------------------------

For everyone else my mood currently is I'm pretty happy. I mean could be better but overall doing good. I would love some more upbeat happy music options though. I have a lot of depressing music and sometimes I just can't always listen to it without making myself sad as much as I love the music.

Music I enjoy is metal, rock, and language doesn't bother me. I have some of everything between asian to middle eastern so hit me with what ever you have.
I dislike most country music and a lot of rap but I'll listen to some hip hop.

Whilst not being rock or metal, I'd recommend Go Go Gadget Gospel by Gnarls Barkley or When I Find Love Again by James Blunt.

For songs leaning more towards rock try Waiting for Superman by Daughtry or maybe some of Phillip Phillips' Stuff. Ten Million Voices is a rock song by Shaman's Harvest that is extremely upbeat and uplifting whilst still staying really true to the rock sound.

For happy metal that's tricker, try Dangerous or And We Run by Within Temptation or Higher than Heaven by James Durbin.

Pretty much everything by AC/DC should be good too.

Well since gimmepie didn't post what he wants (shame on you >:( ) I'll go ahead and post something.

Mood: In the mood to sing and then beat the shit out of something.

Genre I Want: Something in the punk or metal area or classical music. A nice solo thrown in wouldn't be terrible if it were metal.

Not metal, but how about something like Journey's Don't Stop Believin'? That song pumps me up all the time and it has a solo. As for punk/metal , I don't listen to much of that of that , but I always loved August Burns Red who are more metalcore than anything and have a bunch of screaming so you may or may not be into that. But Meddler and Leveler are my favorite of theirs. Also A Day To Remember's All I Want and We Came As Roman's To Plant A Seed are good headbangers and other faves of mine. Again, I don't enjoy much metal/punk that isn't "pop-punk" so I can't give much.

Mood: Something electronic, but not like dance or techno. Just like something soothing or slower. Or just anything soothing honestly.
Genre: Sythpop, indie-dance , dream pop, vaporwave, indietronica, indie pop, just something relaxing like m83 or Imogen Heap or like Ingrid Michelson, Lorde, etc.

Kate Bush is probably your best shot. Running Up That Hill is a good place to start.

I'm looking for something energetic and lo-fi, preferably with electric guitars. Something like The White Stripes.
I doubt this is the kind of feature you're looking for but Spoon has some good stuff on their recent album (start with Do You). you didn't get a response for awhile so I figured I'd try at least lol

I want something catchy I could eventually whistle, but with really good vocals that kind of make you stop and feel the music. do with that what you will - as for the genre, i really don't mind, just preferably alternative / rock / pop / synthy
