I read it in less than a day. I went to a midnight release party as well and got a sticker with my book. I'll have to take a picture of it sometime.

Overall, I liked it as much as the other Harry Potter books. It was different (I'd say why but I guess that's a spoiler), but it was an okay different.

I'm going to point out a few things.

One thing that I don't get is why Hagrid, as huge as he is, didn't get hit by one Avada Kedavra?

I mean seriously, how bad are the Death Eaters aim?

Well, people often make comparisons between Harry Potter and the original Star Wars movies. I mean, it's somewhat understandable, though some of them are a bit too into the extreme for my tastes. However, I can see how there are similar elements.

Dumbledore is sort of like Obi-Wan, being like Harry's mentor and close friend. And Harry's kind of like Luke, where he starts out like a kid, not knowing much about the world of Wizardry (for lack of a better phrase). But then he eventually matures and grows up to be the hero he was prophesized to be.

Perhaps the most hypothetical of all of these is how there are Muggles, and Wizards. Sort of like how there are normal people, and Jedi in Star Wars.

So in the case of the Death Eaters, maybe they're like the Storm Troopers, terrible aim and all.

Keep in mind that these are all wild guesses, as I haven't read the seventh book yet (emphasis on 'yet').

unluckily, some people in my school told em what happpened about a month ago, and the funny thing is it was true :P

I liked the book, it is the best in the series.

Question: do you guys want to start a new thread solely for people who want to discuss the book without hiding spoilers, or do you want to just keep it all in this thread? I can't imagine anyone's looking forward to replying to all these posts while keeping it all contained in spoiler tags. :|

That said...

MY POST CONTAINS SPOILERS THAT I'M TOO LAZY TO PUT IN TAGS. DON'T READ IF YOU HAVEN'T FINISHED THE BOOK.

I just found out that the seventh book's epilogue was written by Rowling before finishing the third book. Now go wonder.
She planned the whole series out before she even started writing, but I heard that she completely changed the ending after the fifth book. That might explain away some discrepancies and the fact that, well, the epilogue sucked so hard. But I doubt it. :|

I hate myself for thinking Snape was truly evil by killing Dumbledore. But the only creepy thing is... I really hoped he loved Lily like a sister. But that doesn't seem possible now, does it?
I picked up on the fact that he was probably going to turn out to be good in the seventh book before it came out but... I felt no sorrow for him. He scared me with the fact that he can't grow up and move on with his life. :| Lily died, what, 16 years prior and she was still the only thing on his mind? That's not unrequited love...that's obsession. @_@;; And I found it pretty creepy. I would have found it even creepier had I been Harry, but apparently that's normal for him--I mean, he named his kid after Snape, even knowing all that. Weird. :|

Also, I wonder how they're gonna stick that looong talk between Harry and Dumbledore after he "dies" into the movie. :x
They'll either cut it out completely, or make it a few rushed lines.

Though when Harry was walking towards the forest to let voldemort kill him and he took out the resurection stone and lupin came out i was like wtf cause i didnt realize that lupin was killed same with tonks until later since i completely missed out on those deaths O_o
Yeah, I had to force myself to read slowly in the end because I knew I'd miss something. I'm glad I did, because I still almost missed the line where she mentions that Lupin and Tonks were dead. ><;

Was I the only person disappointed with the lack of answers? I mean, in the 6th book, it was mentioned that Bill might be like a warewolf, but the only thing that really answers how he changed was that he liked his steaks rare. And what about Teddy (was that his name?)? Lupin mentioned he might turn out like himself, but we never know. Drives me nuts.
Agreed. There were a lot of things she promised would be explained in the final book, but it never happened.

She said she'd explain things about Hogwarts professors and spouses, and that there would be a character who would manage to do magic late in life. I also wanted to know more about the veil that Sirius died through and more about the Durselys. Like, what Dudley saw when the dementors attacked or why Petunia did such a 360 when Dumbledore sent that Howler in the 5th book.

Long story short, she promised more than she could deliver for the book. :\ But she could have at least covered the things she INTRODUCED IN THE BOOK. If she's gonna give us an epilogue that features Teddy, tell us what he's like. Honestly...I'm more interested to hear if he's a werewolf than to hear he's making out with Bill's kid. :| (Btw, he was too old to go to Hogwarts during the epilogue...so was he just dating someone too young for him or did he fail years? *shot*)

Nayana said:
So, I wasn't the only one that was disappointed with the epilogue? I thought the epilogue was kind of cliché myself. It sounds like something a fanfic writer would do or something... It was just kind of... typical. It didn't surprise or wow me at all.

Again, not enough answers. I want to know what everyone did, and, most importantly, if Harry and crew are screwed over in life for missing their seventh year at Hogwarts. I *really* wanted to know if it'd affect them, but we'll never know.

And I hated how all of Harry and Ginny's kids were named after people. One kid? Okay. All of them? Goes a little too far in my opinion. Actually, I didn't like any of the kid's names at all.
It did just seem like a bad fanfic. XD; It's nice to hear who got married and that they've got kids but...I was genuinely interested in hearing what everyone did for a living, how they built Hogwarts back up, how they restored peace... too many loose ends were left as loose ends in favour of giving annoyed shippers a chance to ship their OTP's kids together instead. :| (See AS/S, lol.)

I wanted Harry to die for good as well. I thought it would've been a great ending. However, I guess I wasn't that lucky. I only get partial death-that-wasn't-really-death-or-something-like-that (it was confusing as hell, I didn't catch exactly what happened). >:
I was torn in that respect. I wanted him to live, but his death scene was excellently done and I would have been content if the series switches to a new main character to carry out the murder of Voldemort after his death. But I still really wanted him to live, so I'd have been very happy with the way things turned out if only the epilogue didn't end up being so lame. :|

The thing is is that the swrod will always appera for a Gryffindor that is worhty enough. So my guesss is that Griphook was there chilling with the sword in his hands and it suddenly disappeared for Neville. "OH WTF?! WHERE'S MY SWORD?!!!"
Well said! XD; I was happy when Neville got the sword 'cause it meant Griphook had lost it. :|

Spoiler:

oh i guess that makes sense though lol at griphhook just sitting there one moment with the sword and the next it disappearing.

I ish also too lazy to put in spoiler tags. You have been warned.

Now that I think about it, Albus Severus isn't THAT bad of a name... actually, yeah. But Harry named his son after two important people in his life (though I have to agree with Lightning. I was like... "Woah, wasn't Harry a LITTLE creeped out by the fact that his most hated teacher had an obsession with his mom?") but what I don't understand is Hugo. Why HUGO? Why not FRED?

No offense to all the Hugo's out there though. I just kind of expected Ron to do the same as Harry and name his son after Fred.

... FREED. *sock'd*

K, I just had to get that off my chest.

All my posts after this one will have neither spoiler tags, nor big warnings like this. Read only if you've finished the book or don't care. :)

Maybe George had a kid and named it Fred. Or Percy. They're older and they may have already named a kid after him, so maybe Ron and Hermione didn't want to confuse things at family reunions. XD; Plus, we didn't know the kids' middle names. Maybe Fred was a middle name instead of a first name for them--and that's how I would've preferred Harry's name choices anyway. :|

LUL WHO PUTS IN SPOILER TAGS?
not me!

GAAAHHH ALBUS SEVERUS POTTER. IT'S A PAINFUL NAME. x_x; It actually sounds more like three characters all mashed together to me, to be quite blunt.

I think everything that I was wondering has already been stated. Teddy and his werewolf status, who gave their kid Fred's namesake, Bill's werewolf status, etc.

But Scorpius Malfoy has a fangirl. (And he hasn't even said a single word.)

GAH, MALFOY'S HAIR WAS ALREADY NEAR DARN INVISIBLE, AT LEAST LET HIM HAVE THE COMFORT OF KNOWING HE HAS HAIR ROWLING!! Too late though. He's balding. *pity pity*

Percy was amazing. He redeemed himself in less then two sentences flat, just by showing up at Hogwarts. xD Amazing! Amazing I say!

And, was I the only one who liked Snape before he did the whole memory freaky thing? Cause I really loved how he antagonized Harry and the scene when he killed Dumbledore was just amazing. Maybe I'm just weird.

Apologies for making such a strange post. The atmosphere seemed so focused and serious I had to put in a little insanity.

I got the seventh book yesterday. I literally stayed up the entire night reading it which is something that is entirely new to me. I started at 11:00 PM and finished the book at 6:15 AM

Anyway somehow I knew
Spoiler:

LOL @ all the notices about spoilers.

That's why I've stayed away from this topic so far. I finally got a copy and finished it today, it was a reasonably good read but I do find that the ending was kinda short and sorta rushed straight into the epilogue IMO.

Oh and the casualties. Errm.. well she really did have fun killing off people now, didn't she? OH WHY DID HEDWIG DIE???? xD

OMG Flavaquil, i know! why the hell did they kill hedwig so quick?!?! i wanted hedwig to be around forever, she was like one of harry's best friends!

so here are just a few of my opinions real quick:

-the best chapter in the whole book was the one where harry goes into snape's memory. that surprised me sooooo much, i totally didnt see it coming that dumbledore planned his death with snape (although the part about ahrry being a horcrux was just a little more predictable)

-The ending was pretty good, I thought. I loved that Neville was the one to destroy the final horcrux, he was sort of like "the boy who could have been the boy who lived", and it seemed appropriate. And lol at the Griphook thing, i didn't even think about that when I was reading. As far as the final battle goes, I love that she didn't just have Harry Avada Kedevra Voldemort to kill him, she had him outsmart him, which was neat because Voldemort was always ahead of the curve as far as figuring things out. And the part where Mrs. Weasly kills Bellatrix was great, that was one of my favorite scenes of the book. The only bad part was the fact that the last real chapter just ended with all the paintings clapping at him, I thought it would end with a moment with him and Ginny.

-The epilogue was dissapointing. I think everyone has covered that. But it doesn't tarnish the book for me. No matter what, this was a great end for a great series.

-Overall, I'd say a 10/10, this was probably my favorite of the series. I had never read a book that big in one day in my life.

And yeah, no spoiler tags, I figure they arent needed at this point

Changed the thread title now that spoiler tags have been shunned from here...
<3 Thank you!

I lol'd so hard when I read that he had a receding hair line. XD

I know! I thought, at first, when he didn't show up for the wedding or anything, that it was enough of a reason to hate him no matter how late he showed up in the book. But then he showed up and...and I forgave him. T_T;; YAY PERCY.

Apparently. XD I think all of my friends actually liked Snape a lot before DH, but I've never liked him. At all. :| And reading DH didn't help.

I preferred it with the paintings, if I had to pick one. But really, I'd rather she put the epilogue only a few months later or something so that we could see everyone picking up the pieces and starting relationships anew. :\
