Hexipelago
Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn and caldron bubble.
Fillet of an Archipelago,
In the caldron boil and bake;
Eye of Master Sword and toe of Thunder Badge,
Wool of Diamond Pickaxe and tongue of Magicant Bat…
Adder's Blue-Eyes White Dragon and blind-worm's Lantern,
Lizard's Kokiri's Emerald and howlet's Suspended Swinging Coaster...
For an Archipelago of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-broth boil and bubble.
Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn and caldron bubble.
Cool it with a baboon's Go Mode,
Then the Archipelago is complete and good.

Hello and welcome to another one of our Archipelago events! We've been running a few casual/slower ones recently, so I decided to put together a faster/competitive Archipelago for those interested! Feel free to join, if you think you can dispel the foul concoction that the witches have been brewing...
What is Archipelago?
Archipelago is essentially a "multi-game randomiser". This means taking multiple games and randomising them altogether, resulting in your items potentially being in someone else's game! To provide an example:In a normal randomiser of say Pokémon Emerald, you would expect your HM03 to perhaps be obtained after defeating the first Gym rather than in its normal location (given to you by Wally's father in Petalburg City). However, in Archipelago it might be that actually your HM03 is obtained when another player defeats Queen Gohma in their Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. This also can apply to you i.e. instead of the OoT player getting their Ocarina of Time from a random place in their game it is actually obtained when you defeat Wattson in Mauville City.
Otherwise the end goal is the same - complete your games/goals, just in this case with the assistance of your fellow players!
Or... potentially hinder the progress of your "fellow" players... who knows...
Event details
The aim of this Archipelago is something to be a bit more fast-paced, kinda matching the same energy as the one James hosted for the Get-Together. As a result we'll be looking to start either as soon as I have all the YAML files from everyone on Sunday 27th October, or at the very latest first thing Monday 28th October. Please get your YAML files to me by then, otherwise you will not be able to take part. I will provide more information on how to put together YAML files later on in this post. We will then aim to finish in a week, so looking at around 3rd/4th November, depending on timezones.I will be running a test server probably the evening of Friday 25th October or early Saturday, so any new players or people with new games that want to test it make sure to get YAMLs to me by then!
This a competitive event where you will be split into two teams, trying to beat the other in a race to complete all games the fastest! To help you along the way, some wicked hex maniacs have opened up a little shop... you see they're trying to collect Spiritomb Fragments to reassemble the spooky Pokémon, but they're scattered throughout your games! You can trade these in for things to aid your team, or hinder the other team! Stocks are limited however! Details are below.
- For 3 Fragments, you can earn a free hint. There are 5 of these in total for each team.
- For 5 Fragments, you can remove a free hint from the other team. There are 2 of these in total for each team.
- For 3 Fragments, you can lock a currently connected player on the other team from playing for an hour. There are 2 of these in total for each team.
- For 5 Fragments, you can release an item from a game. There are 1 of these per player per game for each team.*
- For 5 Fragments, you can lock a currently connected player on the other team from playing for three hours. There are 2 of these in total for each team.
As a small thank you for playing, you'll also have Pokémon Slates distributed throughout your multiworlds. Trading one of these in will allow you either a Ghost/Dark/Poison Type VPP Pokémon of your choosing (based on VPP rulings), or a custom role + role icon on our Discord server! There are twice the number of Slates as people in a team to increase chances, and if someone finds more than one then they can give the extras to anyone else!
Any of these items that are released after someone finishes a game do NOT count!
What games can I play?
There are two lists of games you can use:- The Supported Games list. This is a list of all games that have been tested enough to fully work on Archipelago. These will also have the easiest YAML setup process.
- The Beta Games list. This is a list of EVERY game currently completed/being worked on for Archipelago. Most of these will have a different YAML process and generally SHOULD work on Archipelago (I have yet to come across an issue with any I have used).
How to set up YAML files
NB: this assumed you have already downloaded the latest version of the Archipelago program itself, which can be found here.YAML files are basically config files which tells the server how to randomise your game. There are two methods to doing this.
Method 1
If you have picked a game from the Supported Games list, then the process is very straightforward. All you need to do is select the Options Page option (pictured below)![[PokeCommunity.com] Hexipelago (Fast/Competitive Archipelago) [Signups open until COP Oct 27th] [PokeCommunity.com] Hexipelago (Fast/Competitive Archipelago) [Signups open until COP Oct 27th]](https://i.imgur.com/o3TD2fh.png)
This will then bring you to a page that will let you customise what features you want randomised (image below). Make sure to fill in a player name and I would recommend all new players leave the progression balancing as it is.

Once done, hit "Export Options" at the bottom and your YAML will then be downloaded. That is the file you will need to send myself. All done!
Method 2
If you are using one of the beta etc. games, then you will need to generate the YAML manually. To do this, you will need an APWORLD file. Click the game in the top list and it will take you to something that should list the APworld (and potentially other things) link. Click that (image below) to go to the Github page and then click on the LATEST apworld file (it should end in .apworld) to download it.Once that is done, you will need to place it into the worlds folder of your Archipelago install (located in Archipelago\lib\worlds). Once that is done, open your Archipelago program and select the Install APWorld option first, selecting the .apworld file you've just downloaded. Then select Generate Template Options. This then opens a folder with ALL of the YAMLs. Open the one for your game and start editing! Once done, make sure to save it somewhere and then send that file to me.
If there are any questions with any of this, then please shoot me a message right away!
