High risk, higher return

The two countering moves of the series are Counter (physical) and Mirror Coat (special). You can use these moves when your opponents hit you; they enable you to return the favor and deal double the damage! Most Pokemon that are seen using either of these moves often share the trait of a high HP and/or low defensive stats.

What do you think of these moves? Do you find them useful? What Pokemon do you think are the best fit for them? And have you incorporated wither Counter or Mirror Coat into any of your competitive teams?

I've actually never found any particularly big use for them, but they can be handy in certain situations. When you know an opponent is going to hit you with a move of a certain damage class, using one of those moves can be a real help. But in general, I almost never go out of my way to put one of these moves on my Pokes--but I'll use them if my Pokemon happens to have one of them in its moveset.

They're kind of situational moves, but they're interesting for Pokémon with high HP, like the occasional Blissey with Counter (let's face it, it's not the most practical thing but still fun to see). Although once in a Nuzlocke I did on X, I gave it to my Vanilluxe since it didn't have much other than Ice-type moves to use, and when I got to the Champion and wanted to use one member for each of hers, said Vanilluxe OHKO'ed her Goodra with Mirror Coat after she did a little under 2/3 with Focus Blast. Fun.

No I never use these moves. I don't like them used on me because they can be deadly

I find them too situational because it's hard to predict if they'll use a damaging attack or a status move. That's why I don't use these moves.

All you need is good prediction on incoming physical/special attacks and which pokemon that is hit while your pokemon activate respective stats counters. It's really luck and random base to occur likewise you wasted a PP and turn. Good candidate are bulky type like wobbufet because it's so bulky, suicine also a good counter with specials and milotic too, but I don't think blissey are up to using counter because of it's fragile defense stats while being extremely bulky.

I've never really used them on purpose. As in, I've had the moves on Pokemon until they learn a new move so I would (almost) never have a Pokemon with either of those moves when I'm at the Elite Four. I wouldn't really use them competitively either since I'm not the best at prediction and there are so many better moves that could use that move slot :P

I've never found them particularly useful since they require you to take a lot of damage to even work. Chansey/Blissey have massive HP and healing moves, but they're slow and strong physical attacks will do a shitload of damage to them and they'll probably die next turn. Counter Skarmory can work sometimes, but most people are gonna try to hit its lower Sp.Def. Guess it's meant more as a 1-time surprise option?

I generally don't like moves that require you to guess your opponent's next move. I'm not any good at predicting whether they will use a Physical or Special move. Half the time I get it wrong or they use a Status move anyway. And then if I move first and it fails and I'm a sitting duck while they beat me up.
