  • I say Steven was a better champ, as he was more difficult to beat and he wasn't really much of a type specialist. Wallace was actually kind of easy for me. Sceptile's Leaf Blade beat Milotic with a lucky critical hit, and Salamence destroyed everything else on Wallace's team. Steven had an interesting array of Pokemon, and none of them were easy to defeat.

  • Steven just throws off the vibe of Champion. When I was a child, I used to think that Wallace was a woman. Srsly, bro.

While I personally prefer Steven in terms of favorite characters, I enjoy battling Wallace much more. That's the only champion that actually made me put my head into the game, in terms of strategy and what not.

  • I actually prefer wallace. he's the first, matter of fact, only character to make it from being a gym leader to being a champion. it gave him more of a journey.

Not only Steven is the champion, he's the Red of Hoenn in Emerald. Too bad there's no rematch.

  • I have to go with Steven.
Maybe its because I'm just used to Wallace as a Gym Leader.

Or maybe its because Steven just seems more fit to be Champion personality-wise.

  • Well I like Juan which makes me want him to stay in so that makes it Juan as a Gym leader, Wallace as the champion and Steven as the strong trainer like Red, it suits them all that way IMO.

Totally Steven; he was the original and I like Wallace better as a final Gym Leader
Also, I find Steven's pokémon to be cooler :P

I'm used to Steven, plus a Water type Champion seems a bit too basic but a STEEL one is interesting in my opinion.

  • Definitely Steven because He was more of a challenge compared to Wallace.

lol, I actually had a harder time with wallace than I did with Steven. With steven, my Blaziken swept all of steven's pokemon except for his aggron.
meanwhile, I had a very hard time with Wallace's suicune.

  • I OHKO'ed all of Jasmine's Pokemon. And Misty was my nightmare... She kept killing my team over and over. So, i think you can't counter Water easily while Steel has weaknesses. Also, i think Wallace looks like a Champion more than Steven. I think Steven should be last Elite 4 or last Gym Leader.

    Wallace

Water are NOT easy to take out if used right. They only have two weaknesses, One of which is destroyed by ice beam which is learned by almost every single water pokemon. The other weakness can be blocked 100% by pokemon like swampert and others with a ground sub type and lanturn's volt absorb or can be made less a threat by pokemon like kingdra and ludicollo. Then milotic is the perfect ballance of offence and defense making it a brilliant end boss.

However he could still use a few changes.

    1. His gyarados has too many special attack moves making its dragon dance pointless. Try some other moves like EQ, Waterfall, aqua tail, bite, ice fang or even giga impact.

    2. Get rid of whiscash for a swampert. Why shouldn't the champion be allowd to have a fully evolved starter pokemon? His team needs more physical coverage (also applied to #1).

    3. Replace wailord with a kingdra. I'm sure drake won't mind if you take his... It would be a better setup pokemon than wailord because it only has one weakness, great rounded stats and can still setup your rain dance (with its swiftswim to ensure a second chance to hit) then use a new move scald to burn your enemies. After that blizzard and some sort of powerful dragon move will do.

    4. Get rid of tentacruel for a lanturn. Volt absorb protects against electric attacks and heals it. A perfect switch in for a water team. Maybe an extra rain dance with some thunder action. Then standard ice beam/ hydro pump your way to victory if thunder won,t work.

Basicaly I think his team (in the hopefully to be RSE remakes) should be:

    Kingdra
    swampert
    lanturn
    ludicollo
    gyarados
    milotic.

They're all still native to the hoenn region so why would they not keep him a champion in a future version with them all in the 70/80 levels with even better pokemon?

  • Steven > Wallace. I like how Steven has a Metagross, which I had a bit of a challenge with. IMO, Wallace specializing in Water Pokemon is redundant with Juan specializing in the same type.

Are you sure you don't mean milotic? Wallace doesn't have a suicune. Also blaziken should have had no problem with aggron aslong as you can land a fighting move on it. I never liked some of steven's team much though. The only champion who never used a monotype team that I actualy liked was cynthia.

Don't get me wrong, a ground, rock, steel team is great but I'd make a few things different.
