I'm a firm believer of taking my sweet time in the bathroom. I feel like hurrying does not get the job done, and often my bowels can be lying and/or traitorous at rare times. So rather than risking it; usually I sit down and try to get comfortable; this can take anywhere from 1-3 minutes while I find something, usually what I'm carrying or have on my person, to take my mind off the task at hand. I find elimination is far simpler if I don't focus on it too much and just let nature take it's course, allowing my body to do it's natural thing when burdened with too much waste.
So normally I have my phone or 3DS handy, but I can even use books, magazines or newspapers as well. Just as long as I have something to do while I wait for my body to do it's thing. This stage can take anywhere from 5-15 minutes, but up to 20 to 30 minutes in extreme conditions; though these conditions are rare.
After I Go, I do spend a variable amount of time, from 2 to 10 minutes, after finishing. This crucial step is something I do to ensure I'm really 'Done' and not just pausing. This is especially crucial if the movement is abnormal and/or less than solid. Fortunately this is usually rare too.
When finished, I clean myself up thoroughly and exit the restroom.
And that's why I don't like rushing. Skipping any of the usual routine could cause me to need to go again soon. So I try to nab the restroom when it's not trafficked if possible so that I can avoid too much pressure. Above all; I consider the restroom to be a private sanctuary, which should be reasonably comfortable and properly equipped.
Of course life isn't perfect; you don't always get to use that glorious low-traffic bathroom that's clean and quiet and free of others waiting in a queue behind you. Sometimes rushing is necessary, and while most of the steps I take are regarded as essential to having a pleasant and effective trip to the restroom; some steps can be skipped over or sped up. So I can be in and out in 5 minutes if needs demand it. I don't like rushing that much though unless there's a good, sound reason for it though; like others waiting behind me or not having time for a relaxation stretch.
