I like to come up with names, it makes Pokémon more meaningful for me if only a bit. I sometimes take names from other games or from movies and such, such as Skyrim for dragons and Harry Potter for some of the various creatures. I also generated nicknames randomly by just taking the top of a list of suggested nicknames from another website and putting them in a generator. That yielded some REALLY funny results :P
It depnds on how I feel upon starting the game! I generally have a theme of F-P-J-N-M-S because that's my siblings' name initials, all six of them! But now that there's another baby bro or sis soon, I'm probably gunna ditch that idea.
Y Version:
Chesnaught-Felix
Pidgeot-Pippi
Venusaur-Jem
MeowsticM-Num
Snorlax-Muu
Aurorus-Soor
White 2 Version:
Serperior-Femme(pronounced Feemee I didn't realize back thent hat Femme is a word in I think German I forget)
Liepard-Pin
UnfezantF-Jep
Espeon-Nymn
Cinccino-Mett
Zoroark-Zoroark (ok so it's N's Zoroark but I call him Soro.)
And then I have the teams where I name them based on their final evolution:
Spoiler: Just SoulSilver/Silver Team as far as I remember:
Furo the Feraligatr
Nono the Noctowl
Catia the Crobat
Toto the Togekiss
Gego the Gengar
Uoho the Umbreon
I mean I did this on a few hacks but none I recall.
And I also use a random generator for Nuzlockes and stuff now. And one time in a nuzlocke I used Pokespe shipping names. >w>
Spoiler: A few that I liked
Lucky the Espeon-I don't like Luckyshipping but hey a female Espeon? Plus I was running out of names.
Entourage the Togetic- Didn't think I'd use him at first, but he's sweet.
Agency the Clefable- YES BEST SHIP NAME FOR THE BEST POKEMON IN GEN III SO GLAD SHE'S SURVIVED
Frantic the Combuskin- I hoped he'd make it far, but alas my starter......
At one point I had PMS the Feraligatr since PreciousMetal wouldn't fit, Special the Nidoqueen went unused, CHOSEN THE SNEASEL DIED THEN VIRIDIAN THE SNEASEL DIED, WildSide the Mantine..... Mangaquest the Arcanine, Frantic II the Swampert, and Eyeware the Houndoom. >w> I did use aniem names like Poke the Raichu.
I go through the phases when I start a new game once I a while where I'll decide to nickname all my Pokémon, usually just random stuff that I think fits them. I usually stick to this for two or three Pokémon, but inevitably I'll forget to nickname one and the whole thing gets screwed up. So I usually just stay away from the nicknaming.
I like nicknaming them. It just "feels" better, really.
Although whether or not I actually do really depends on how I'm feeling. It's kind of weird, I was playing through X and there were some pokemon that I was like, okay, I don't like you much and I'm probably never going to use you at all, you're not getting any sort of nickname whatsoever. And then right now, I'm playing through Sapphire again and I'm giving every pokemon a nickname...even if it's silly. Even if I don't plan on using them much.
I don't really do naming schemes, though. I just come up with names either based on the pokemon's name, or maybe something about their type, or a thing about them, or just a reference to something else. Or sometimes just bad puns. Really, it's just whatever comes to mind at the time.
I have always nicknamed my teams and always will. Usually I name them after people/characters I like.
Eg: Black run (fairytales) Aurora, Philipp, Ariel, Eric, Anna, Dmitri
White2 run (German NT) Philipp, Manuel, Thomas, Toni, Holger, Lukas
Original X run (French history) Louis, Liberte, Joan, Michel, Blanche, Charles (short for Charlemagne)
Platinum run (Scheherazade 1931) Sadie, Roland, Anna, Evelyn, Felix, Rashad
2nd X run (吴 3 kingdoms Wu) Zi Ming, Zhong Mou, Wen Tai, Zi Heng, Yi Feng
Current AS run (mix n match Chinese fandoms) Zi Ming, Zhong Mou, Zi Heng, Feng Xiao, Jin Lei, Chen Xiang.
In games we are allowed to give our Pokemon's Nickname when we caught a Pokemon or after receiving them in any manner, such as receiving it from an NPC, hatching from an Egg etc.So do you like to give Nicknames to your Pokemons? If So Why do you like it?
I always give nicknames to the Pokemon I use for my teams. Plus each team I use, I make sure the nicknames follow a theme. That is why I like being able to nickname Pokemon.
I'm someone who's too lazy to come up with names, which easily explains why I don't nickname my Pokemon. I once tried it, but then I was not happy with the names.
I like nicknaming my Pokémon. It wasn't until my main White 2 that I really started doing it regularly, but when I do it's fun. I always hate it when I can't think of a good nickname for certain Pokémon I catch. And of course when I do Nuzlockes and Wedlockes I basically have to do it, in those I tend to use naming themes, usually those can get fun.
I always nickname my Pokemon when I'm planning to raise them seriously... but if I don't plan to? I won't bother. I feel bad for letting something with a nickname sit in my PC for too long. This is a problem for me sometimes, since I'm usually really bad at coming up with names. I like them to feel special and have thought behind them, so a lot of the time I become indecisive when nothing seems good enough.
Some of my favorite nicknames I've come up with so far...
Sirius: My shiny male Ninetales that my fiancee bred for me. Sirius is the name of a blue star, which felt very appropriate in this case. It's a beautiful fire type that's a rare bright blue.
Io: My shiny female Gardevoir that I IV bred with the specific intention of it being a main player on my main team. She's named after a priestess of Hera in Greek Mythology, as well as a moon that I've always found fascinating.
Basatan II: The moment I first saw Clauncher I knew I'd raise one, and when I saw Clawitzer... it had made my main team before I knew anything about its stats or performance. Basatan was the first Clawitzer I raised, but while I EV trained him... it was the one I caught in the wild and used for the main game. Basatan II, on the other hand, is the offspring of the first, who was specifically IV bred to perfection. The name itself comes from Lovecraftean lore.
French Fry: It's the name I use for any and every Spheal I ever catch, and I think the reason is obvious with a little thought. I don't use Spheal in battle... I just love it. I play with it in Amie and admire its adorableness.
