I was using the run away method nearly 9 hours for latias, but I accidentally soft reseted.... will it affect the shiny rate?

Soft resetting can actually increase the rate of encountering a shiny, which is why many people use this method today. Let me know if this info helped at all!

I can confirm this is what people do, though it does not increase the chance of getting a shiny it merely just re-rolls the dice and gives you another chance at getting it with the same odds. If you want to increase your odds of getting a shiny, you need to get the Shiny Charm which you can obtain from Professor Birch by completing the National Pokedex.

    Hey everyone,

I'm having trouble deciding on a bold or relaxed Uxie? Is bold or relaxed a better nature for Uxie? I was going to choose bold because it lowers attack, as opposed to lowering speed in a relaxed nature? Would this be the better choice and if not why? Thank you!!! :)

Bold would probably be what I'd go for if I were you, since speed-lowering natures are usually best for Pokemon used on Trick Room teams and if you're not going to use Trick Room I wouldn't invest in it. Uxie's Speed stat is 95 which is actually fairly fast.

Most likely because the wild pokémon are at a higher level than the pokémon in front. If your first pokémon is high-leveled repels will keep away all encounters.

  • Hey guys, I have a question regarding the Dex Nav. I'm currently working on my third gym badge and I've noticed that my Dex Nav wasn't picking up anything in Granite Cave. Do you have to be given the national Pokedex for it to activate in other places besides tall grass? Also, I know that when you receive the national Pokedex, new Pokemon are available for capture in the world. Would the Dex Nav only work on the new ones that have appeared, or will it include the other Pokemon that were already there before you're given the national Pokedex?

    Many thanks in advance.

For the normal encounters in the area (aka Hoenn Dex) they are also encountered with the DexNav. If you mean the Pokemon that appear only after the National Dex is obtained, they can only be found with the DexNav and not through normal encounter.

Hi, I'm just new in the 3ds scene and currently playing Pokemon AS with my gf playing Omega Ruby. I'm on my way to Mt. Pyre now and I have some questions.

#1 When is the right time to build the team I want?
#2 Is there something worth getting in Safari?
#3 Is there a missable item/pokemon in ORAS?
#4 Can you explain me in the simplest terms what are EV and IV?
#5 Is the difference between a max EV and good IV big enough compared to a normal one without prioritizing those 2?
#6 How can I know the IV of my pokemon?
#7 Is there a list or tiers of competitive pokemons?
#8 How secret bases work? Do I need to game sync so that my gf can see my secret base on here game?

#1 It really depends on what kind of team you're going for, and your personal preferences.
#2 Here, you can find a list of all the Pokemon that can be found in the Safari Zone, to see which ones you'd like to go after.
#3 Don't really know what you mean by that, but if you're talking about a missing item/Pokemon, then all Pokemon including their megas can be used in ORAS, and the only items that are missing are certain Key Items from X and Y.
#4 IVs are individual values, which cannot be changed. They can range from 0-31, and can affect how high a Pokemon's stat can be in a certain stat. For example, a level 100 Alakazam with an IV of 0 in HP will have an HP stat of 220, whereas a level 100 Alakazam with an IV of 31 in HP will have an HP stat of 251. EVs are effort values, which can boosts a Pokemon's stat even further, and are, for lack of a better word, customizable. A Pokemon can have a maximum of 510 total EVs, with a maximum of 255 in a single stat. For example, a level 100 Alakazam with an IV of 31 in HP and no HP EVs will have 251 HP, as I previously stated, but a level 100 Alakazam with an IV of 31 in HP AND 252 EVs in HP will have an HP stat of 314. tl;dr, if you don't plan on playing Pokemon competitively, you don't need to worry about this.
#5 If you're playing in-game, then in most cases, no. But if you're playing competitively, having 252 EVs in Attack can be the difference between a 2 hit knockout and a one hit knockout.
#6 There is an NPC in an area you can't access until you progress through some of the post-game that will evaluate your Pokemon's IVs. The meaning of his quotes can be found here.
#7 Most people who use tiers in competitive battling follow Smogon's tier system, and a list of their tiers can be found here. A complete list of Pokemon in each tier can be found here, here, here, here, and here.

    Hope this helped you out.

Thanks a lot! it helped me a lot. I just added question #8 if any case you're still there.

As for EV and IV, if I will be planning to take part in competitions, both should have the best value?

Hmm, right now I just have 3 pokemons that I think I will use. Impish Skarmory, Adamant Gyarados and Sceptile (I forgot the nature).

Before I forgot, is there a leveling spot in the game where I can level my pokemon?

You can look for any Secret Bases that have Blissey in them, scan their QR codes, and recruit the leaders of the bases as your Secret Pal. Aside from providing assorted services like item-finding, they can battle you once a day. Here's a series to get you started:

Also, you can also use the rematch function of the AreaNav to determine which overworld trainers ask for a rematch. By the time you beat the Elite 4, those trainers will have Pokemon at reasonably high enough levels. Once a day, you can battle five trainers specializing in a certain type (all the Pokemon they use change daily, and are at level 60). You can also rematch the Elite 4 multiple times, but those are very high-leveled.

Are you looking for any particular movesets for each of your Pokemon?

thanks for the infos. Btw, How secret bases work? Do I need to game sync so that my gf can see my secret base on here game?

Yes. But I think I need new ones with good IVs since I only focus on nature when I try to catch them.

Lastly, I can't understand the Smogon tiers. The OU, UU etc. The pokemons under OU are the best ones except for legendaries because they are in Uber tier? I'm planning on choosing my pokemons based on OU.

    1. You can encounter other people's Secret Bases online if you go online in the PSS and update your DexNav. For RL people, simply passing by them while wireless connections are enabled for both DS systems works.

    2. Competitive Pokemon is split into tiers based on each Pokemon's usage in the standard (Overused) environment and the tiers (Underused, Rarelyused, Neverused) below it. The Pokemon that are too good for OU are sent to Ubers, which is a banlist and a tier within itself. Greninja and Mega Salamence are two examples of this.

    3. For each of the Pokemon you mentioned, here are the sets they commonly run:

Skarmory (for cartridge-based, as it's hard to get a hold of Counter and Defog in-cartridge, since both are exclusive to previous generations and can only be obtained by transferring a Skarmory that learned those moves over past generations):
    -Stealth Rock/Spikes
    -Brave Bird
    -Taunt/Whirlwind
    -Roost
    Nature: Impish
    EVs: 252 HP/252 Def/4 SDef
    Item: Leftovers/Rocky Helmet
    Ability: Sturdy

    or
    -Iron Head
    -Spikes
    -Whirlwind/Taunt
    -Roost
    Nature: Careful
    EVs: 252 HP/4 Def/252 SDef
    Item: Leftovers
    Ability: Sturdy

    Gyarados:
    -Substitute
    -Dragon Dance
    -Waterfall
    -Bounce
    Nature: Jolly/Adamant
    EVs: 88 HP/220 Atk/4 Def/196 Spe
    Item: Leftovers
    Ability: Intimidate

    Sceptile:
    -Leaf Storm
    -Dragon Pulse
    -Focus Blast/Hidden Power (Fire)
    -Earthquake/Protect
    Nature: Naive/Timid
    EVs: 4 Atk/252 SAtk/252 Spe
    Item: Sceptilite
    Ability: Overgrow

    or
    -Substitute
    -Giga Drain
    -Dragon Pulse
    -Focus Blast
    Nature: Timid
    EVs: 252 SAtk/4 SDef/252 Spe
    Item: Sceptilite
    Ability: Overgrow

  • Adding onto Platinum's post, the 5 type specialist trainers with randomly changing Pokemon he's talking about are in the Battle Resort and they use the following types: Ground, Bug, Poison, Fairy and Grass.

Thanks for the replies. I'll make sure learn about EV and IV after I get Kyogre.

Btw, I just tried wonder trade and gts. How do I know if the traded pokemon is legit or not? I just got a totodile with ice something and dragon dance, lv1 from wonder trade.

The totodile you got is legit, it can learn dragon dance and ice punch thru breeding.

In regards to moves you can just check the Pokemon's Bulbapedia and/or Serebii page to see all the moves it's capable of legitimately learning, and if one of it's moves is not on the lists it's probably hacked. There's some other things too to tell like it being caught in a place that it's not possible to be caught in.

You can also post about it in this thread, where people who know a lot about Pokemon legitimacy can verify for you if it's legit or not (make sure to provide as much info about the Pokemon as you can).

I guess that Ice move might be Ice Fang or Ice Punch, but Dragon Dance I know for sure is a move it learns from breeding with certain Pokemon so it was highly likely its parent bred with something that knew the move. Also, as Nah stated if you think there's something suspicious with your Pokemon and need to get it hack-checked there's a thread in Trade Corner that does that purpose.
