It didn't take long for the waking up early to hit me and now I'm drinking coffee like it's my job.

Or you could try to just go to bed earlier. Coffee doesn't actually make you more alert, that only happens for people who don't regularly drink it. That's why I don't understand why I always see the same people coming into Dunkin Donuts everyday for their morning coffee; you're essentially just consuming a drink that will steadily increase your heart rate and blood pressure as it ends up constricting your blood vessels when drank regularly.

There is a tolerance effect, yes, but that doesn't mean that it's completely ineffective. Caffeine is still a drug with measured effects, not some herbal supplement that relies entirely on placebo effect. And even if it did, the point of it is to make me feel more awake, so it succeeded anyway.

Everything kills you nowadays. I don't smoke, am not an alcoholic, eat vegetables, exercise. I'd rather live 60-70 years happily over 110 monitoring every last thing I put in my body to the point of misery.

I don't drink coffee or smoke but I do drink alcohol fairly regularly and don't exercise as much as I perhaps should (hence why I was exhausted after about 15 minutes playing football this evening).

It also takes me a while to wake up on a morning. People who can just roll out of bed, get dressed and then make their way straight to school/work are stronger people than I. I need food and a shower before I can even contemplate leaving the house.

Like Morkula said, the highest you can usually get is really not that high, and that won't even be enough to cope with inflation (depending where you're from).

So let's say you're a random American and you decide to invest in a bank with a 2% interest rate annually. Great, now you can sit back, relax, and watch your money grow, right? Wrong. The inflation rate in America is 3.33%. This means you not only not earn anything, but you actually lose 1.33% of your purchasing power.

So basically, banks are a really bad idea for long-term investment. They're there for transactions and emergency funds, but definitely not for retirement plans.

Trading is super risky, although that's what my old millionaire friend did. I do stocks too, except I do it differently. Instead of buying and selling every day for four hours straight, I do it once every other month for 30 minutes. It works much better than trading.

That's good, be sure to do it right though :D

I think you missed my last post where I said I'm getting 6% as an Australian lol

This is advice I feel that my parents need to follow. They rely on coffee to keep themselves alert all throughout the day, and they seem to wake up very early at the same time while going to bed late.

Personally I don't really need coffee or such in the morning to wake up...
All I need to wake up is my infernal alarm clock, and all I need to stay awake is just something to keep me busy with, let it be anything

I'm way too anxious a person not to set an alarm! Even when I do I often wake up before it goes off and have to convince myself not to double-check and make sure I didn't miss it. I've only slept through my alarm a few times in the decade or so I've used one, but that was enough to make sure no matter what to have a backup.

Oh, gawd, I always have to have an alarm set for the mornings, or I might be late for work! u_u; I mean, my body naturally wakes me up before my alarm, but I'd rather not risk it. :(
I haven't been able to get used to waking up early since my schedule at work changed from 9:30-6 to 8:15 - 5. :<

I have my alarm set for 7:30 most mornings for work, but usually I don't get up until nigh-on 8. I keep pressing the snooze button :/

I don't trust an alarm unless it's my iPhone's. It's the only one I use regularly. And I use an alarm tone that I loathe so I know I'll wake up, haha.

When I really, really need to wake up I use one of the default alarms that has birds chirping for a few seconds, then a REALLY loud roar...now it's gotten to the point where I wake up in a panic when I hear the birds because I want to stop it before the roar.

Harsh, but effective!

Regardless of when I sleep, I always wind up waking myself at the same, exact time every day. Due to that, I rarely have to use alarm. :]

Has anyone tried one of those light-up alarms? Do you know if they work? I've considered getting one for my boyfriend who struggles to get up every day but they're like 30 bucks and if they don't work I don't want that money to go down the drain.

There's a paid app called Sleep Cycle. It's a dollar to buy.

It tracks your movements to determine which stage in your sleep cycle you're in, and it wakes you up nearest to the time your alarm is set when you're at your lightest stage of sleep, so that you can wake up feeling refreshed regardless of how many cycles you slept through.
