News: Legendary Pokémon, Rival and Rotom unveiled

I recall Lyra (the HG/SS female protagonist) was often nicknamed "Soul" (after Soul Silver) prior to her official name being revealed. The Johto games' rival never had an official name but according to Bulbapedia he seems to mostly be called "Silver" like how Ethan (Johto male protagonist) was initially called "Gold".

Actually I don't think that the female protagonist from FrLg has an official name either... Ironically her counterpart in Pokémon Special is good friends with the counterpart of the Johto rival xD.

Hey guys, I can't remember who asked, but Japanese Pokemon youtube has about 6 short clips. I am not sure if it tells us anything new, but there is more interaction with the characters.

There seems to be an Aquarium in the..... possibly lab? That have Luvdisc and Corsola in it. So more old pokemon shown.

If Bulbapedia is to be concerned, it appears she's mostly known these days as Leaf, named after Leaf Green. It's usually been mostly a trend to name protagonists more "traditional" names as opposed to using the game names, the trend starting with Brendan/May and the fact one of them served as the rival in Hoenn, and continued with successive protagonists appearing as NPCs as well.

Do you happen to have a link? (btw it was me who asked)

I notice that too, its a really nice decoration imo! Small details like that go a long way when it all comes together.

Once you get to their page, best thing to do is scroll down a little and you will see about 7 short clips. As I said, not much is shown, but there are some small details that aren't in the English trailer.

Lillie also seems to be friendly toward you, even though she isn't supposed to like battling. or she could be getting mad at you.... I can't read Japanese.

Apparently I was browsing sites like Serebii Forums and Tumblr and I believe the likely reason behind Solgaleo being a Steel-type was likely based on the fact that metal forms in the cores of stars like the sun, and that's likely why the sun isn't actually made of fire.

Her dialogue is something like this:

"Eh? Ah, nice to meet you. I'm called Lillie."

"As an assistant I'm inexperienced but I'd like to return the favor."

"I... I'm not good with battles where Pokemon get hurt, but I'll cheer you on."

I stalled at my doctors appointment so I could see this before school, and when I saw pokedex rotom, it immediatly made my top 10 list (maybe 8 or 9?)

If we can't use rotom in Amie, I will cry

So I'm either hopelessly stretching

It's a bit hard to decipher at the moment, but I do hope we get DexNav or a feature similar to it considering the usefulness it had. Maybe some future information dumps might get into more detail about the Rotom Pokedex and the features it has.

Metals tend to make up very small percentages of a star's mass, and they're almost entirely composed of hydrogen and helium, so idk if I'd call that the reasoning.

As far as I know anyway, I'm not an expert on this stuff =/

I think it could be. What else would that symbol be there for? It even looks as if it might be sitting in a patch of grass too.

Apparently a user on Serebii Forums mentions that the official Sun & Moon site's coding reveals that a new mechanic called "Synchro Forms" could be a possibility, and the crystals present on the protagonists' bracelets could have something to do with it.

Ash Greninja in the anime must have been a sign of what could be to come with these games regarding this speculated mechanic.

Loving the Rotom Pokedex! Hope it only functions when you open it, though and is not intrusive.
Rotodex: Hey! Your Pokemon are low on health, you should really go to a Pokemon Center!
That would be annoying.

Typing on the Legends seems boring. Gamefreak really does love their Psychic legendaries. Then again, I like that they did not go for the obvious with Solgaleo being fire type and Lunala being dark type. Also, the moves may be dual typing as well.

So far, I am hyped. The region and exploration may turn out to be really good with multiple islands etc.

Apparently I now think the fact that the folklore of ghosts coming out at night like the moon might actually explain Lunala's Ghost-type. Never initially thought of that.

Also, I did figure out that Moongeist Beam is actually a Ghost-type move since its Japanese name is Shadow Ray and we know how often shadows are associated with Ghost-type due to several moves with shadow in the name.

If we consider this, the iron/plasma presence in the sun as the reference for Solgaleo's Steel-type, and also Magearna's design theme I could be guessing alchemy could be a heavily prominent thing in Alola.

Highly doubt it will be Alola-exclusive Pokemon available, since there's a Luvdisc and a Corsola in the fish tank in the Professor's shack, and a Slowpoke with an NPC in one of the trailers.

Also there's about 200 Pokémon in the PokéDex too, and it's going to be divided up between the islands, so my question is, how many of those are new Pokémon?

That's part of the QR code reader, not DexNav. It might be what's replacing DexNav, but tbh I really hope it makes a comeback since that was probably one of my all-time favorite features introduced in the games.

Since the leakers appear to be getting cracked down upon, my likely guess is we'll only get a few Pokemon before game release and we won't know the final number of new Pokemon until after the game release.

If anything it makes sense for the number of new Pokemon to be less than previous generations. As the total figure increases, it becomes much harder to design new Pokemon that are unique to others without creating "rip-offs" and duplicates of existing designs. As of generation VI the total figure hit 721 which is a significant increase compared to when the franchise first started out with just 151.

Assuming this generation introduces a further 60 new Pokemon which I expect to be the case, the total will amass to about 800 which is plenty imo. Having a good chunk of past gen pokemon makes up for the lower number of new Pokemon which seems perfectly reasonable to me.

Joe's post makes good reasoning behind the lower numbers of new Pokemon. The designs are getting harder to make, at least as far as original concepts go, so as a result there seems to be more of a focus on quality over quantity.
