My favorite was explorers, but super mystery dungeon was almost just as good to me.

Also I always forget there's a wiiware version.

I played a tiny bit of red rescue team, all of gates to infinity, and some of dx! missed out on sky though, and heard that was the best one... eventually ;o; gates isn't the most popular as I know but I did enjoy it. will make a proper judgment on my favorite once I've actually played them all haha.

also, going to kick this over to Gaming Central since PMD is a series of games, and it'd fit best there.

i'm partial to the original blue rescue team, it's just what i have the most experience with. still mad i lost my copy after working so hard to recruit different pokemon and like i can't speak for newer games but the old ones it was pretty hard to evolve your recruits iirc. i was an eevee (umbreon) and my partner was a torchic (blaziken). i borrowed explorers of darkness from my sister and really enjoyed it, so much so that i bought explorers of sky, but didn't finish it. i ended up selling it which i regret, but i still have the box for some reason. i also have the box for blue rescue team lmfao. ah memories...

Explorers is my favourite in the series, and it's one of the first games I remember making me cry and still a game I think I can come back to and love just as much as I did when I first played it. However, I see PMD discussion as free real estate to deliver my hot takes so I'm gonna get this out to spark discussion.

I really like Gates to Infinity. If there's ever a poll of favourite PMD game, I'll still vote Gates even if it isn't actually my favourite. I think PMD was something that got the gameplay so right after its first shot and it was one of those series where the next games in the series didn't have a lot of issues to fix, but Gates introduced a lot of (mostly subtle) mechanics in it that I love. Move levelling was a great idea, team attacks were a great idea and gave incentive to build a team of a single type, and I think Gates gave more ideas towards playing the game how you want to (by allowing you to build different kinds of shops in your Paradise for different things) or just general post-game content with dungeons having Mysteriosity levels.

Gates had a wonderful OST which I think beats out both the (original, not DX) Rescue Team and Explorers OST in quite a few songs. But that's subjective of course, and I think that might just be because it's newer.

The thing is, yes. Gates doesn't have as strong as a story as Explorers does, which I think is just the easy winner. I think because of the fact that Gates followed up after Rescue Team and Explorers which both had amazing stories, and there was such a long gap between Explorers and Gates, it just got hit way too hard for the fact that its story wasn't Explorers level of good.

And this is absolutely an unjust opinion because I haven't finished it, but Super is my least favourite in the series. I didn't like how it seemed like they felt they had to keep piling on new mechanics to make the game different, and I had talked to a friend about why I stopped playing, and even though I stopped after a solid few hours, his response was "Oh you just never got through the tutorial." Is the tutorial for Super Mystery Dungeon seriously several hours long?

Psmd is my favorite game of all time let alone pokemon game somethung just makes me cry whenever I hear the music when I see the cutscenes and whenever I pop the cartage in to play I feel like a kid again just enjoying pokemon and nothing else not having to worry about school its just a game of escape for me and I love every inch of it the others may be good but psmd will always mean more to me personally then wny of the others

    this is a good post

i like sky because of shaymin, but i honestly couldn't stand to play it these days because it feels so sluggish compared to DX. @__@

is this just talking about what games we like its also about rps and funny chats and other PMD related things

my interpretation is that this is kind of a catch-all pmd thread, which seems fine.

but i really wish pmd was more popular amongst the broader pokemon gaming userbase. :c spinoffs in general i feel haven't been very "big" compared to the mobile titles i think, but they're still great to play.

    Pokémon Mystery Dungeon

I hope I categorized this correctly,,

But uh. I was wondering y'all's thoughts on Pokémon mystery dungeon as a whole! I personally love the series and if I'm being honest, I prefer it over the mainline series games. I often find that I go back to the games in mystery dungeon far more, and I think they have more replayability in my opinion.

I've put more hours into Pokémon mystery dungeon than any mainline games! I believe the one I've put the most hours in so far right now is red rescue team, with over 100 hours. But uh.. yeah.

My favorite mystery dungeon game is probably explorers of sky, just because the emotion and the plot is really good and makes me cry every time even though I've played through the game several times. I almost always try to play as Skitty or Eevee if I can help it. But yeah! Uh,, feel free to share thoughts here.

I hope I categorized this correctly,,.

you did, however there was already an existing thread regarding pmd so i merged them to keep it all together. :)

btw - have you (or anyone reading this lol) played the remakes on switch? i was Considering getting them but i'm still bitter like 10 years later about losing my blue rescue team copy ahaha. but i might have to check it out of it's good.

that's good to hear. i just...need to get over my bitterness LOL i've always been good at keeping up w my games and stuff, that's really one of the few games i straight up lost. i'm really petty... but the remakes do look really good. i might end this 10 year pettiness (at myself) and get it eventually.

first got exposed to PMD a la blue rescue team as a wee lad. being a pokemon and playing in such a fundamentally different style to the main games was such a cool experience for me. sadly i never finished it bcs it was my cousins' console and they lost that cart gRR.

decided to play Explorers of Time a few years ago, my 2nd ever PMD, and i got back to being really hooked! however the game somehow got too hard for me to handle when i reached Dialga, and i ain't the kind of guy who likes to redo stages all the time, so i pretty much cheated the rest of the way lol. no ragrets.

overall, a really nice spin off series. mayhaps i want to play the newer ones should i have time for it.

EDIT - how could i forget to mention the best thing about PMD... the MUSIC. oh my god whoever makes it for them goes hard with each and every track. i don't think there's been any i've come across that i didn't like.

Well, I remember Red Rescue Team was too hard along with Explorers of Darkness. So I opted out of Sky. Gates to Infinity was just bad in my opinion, and when I thought I wrong, I realized that I shared that same opinion with many people. When my dad got me Super Mystery Dungeon for the 3DS, it was hard too, but it was sentimental, because HE bought it for me, and honestly, it is my fav out of the PMD series I played so far. Plus, I got to play as CHESPIN, my fav gen six starter so that meant a lot to me at the time. I think I enjoyed it's story so far the best too.

That said though, I never finished any of the PMD games so .... yeah, take it with a grain of salt.
