Manga or Anime?

When you have a choice of reading a series or watching it (ex. there's both a Fairy Tail anime and manga) which will you pick? One or the other or both (for a reason other than the fact that manga is usually farther ahead than the adaptation)?

For me, I'm basing this off of the only series I can really think of right now, Fairy Tail, but since the anime literally animates the manga frame for frame I think that a lot is gained in the anime, because I think colors and music can add a lot. What about you?

I really like to read the manga over watch the anime. Unless I have a lot of free time I would rather read it, because for one I don't always like the voice actors that they choose and second I like to read ahead and see the newest thing happen as soon as possible.

Hm... since you talk about adaptations, I would go with manga/LN as it's original without any cuts.

Globally, anime because... manga doesn't have Hanazawa Kana.

When it comes to a series, I usually just do one or the other. If I read the manga, I tend not to watch the anime, and vice versa.

In general I don't really have a preference between manga and anime. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. Manga usually tells a better story and usually more character investment, whereas anime is often more engaging. For example, fighting and action scenes are a lot better in anime, because they're harder to follow in manga.

Meh, I'm pretty much neutral. :/

Manga is quick to read through, on normal occasion is the original adaptation, and is ahead in storyline.

Anime has colorful animations, amazing soundtracks and voice acting, as well as dynamic scenes that can't be intepret through pictures.

I prefer reading since it's easier to put down a manga and come back to it without losing the flow of the story than it is to pause an anime and come back to it without losing the flow.

I prefer watching it first to be exposed to the anime's world and characters. It's difficult to imagine colors, voices, actions, and backgrounds when reading manga panels. I tried reading manga (that have not been adapted) before. but I couldn't get far with that.

If an anime stopped or diverged paths, then sure, I can pick up with the manga and imagine the scenes in my mind.

Watching it definitely, but that's usually if I have good internet with no bandwidth restrictions, which I never do so I'm sometimes forced to read the manga. For instance I need to start Kagerou Days since I can't watch Mekakucity Actors yet cuz net

Anime. I don't have much time for reading anymore and my phone is always beside so I can easily just grab my phone and catch up on the newest episode of whatever series has caught my attention at the moment.

Hm, manga series generally have more substance in them compared to their anime counterpart because studios like to edit important details out from the former. The benefit of watching the adaptation is seeing everything come to life, with the voices, and animation, but I do prefer reading manga simply because I have a short attention span when it comes to watching anything! It's more convenient, and easier a task for me to sit through a chapter of 20-50 pages instead of sitting still, trying not to be restless for 25 minutes XD

Mekaku actually apparently isn't adaptation of Kagerou.
They just have the same source material but both are adaptations.
    Pretty much like Mahouka...

Anime is much better for me. I'm not much into reading, and staring at black and white for long periods of time hurts my eyes.

I prefer the visual novel version. It's usually a lot more fleshed out than either. It's like a book, but it has voices, pictures, and sometimes animation. And in some of them, you can even influence the direction of the story.

If you'd asked me a bit ago, I would've probably said anime, since I honestly haven't read too many mangas. And usually things like action and emotion conveys better into animation than it does simply through illustrations and words. But after I started reading a few mangas due to being impatient, I honestly realise that enjoy both about equally as much, but with certain elements I enjoy more in one or the other.

Like mentioned, things like action and emotional scenes hit much harder in animes. When it comes to action scenes, it's mostly due to how fast paced it is, and it's usually much easier to realise what's actually going on than in mangas. At least in my experience. With emotional scenes, voice acting as well as background music really adds a lot to them, so I definitely prefer them far more there.

In terms of things I favour in the manga though; it's much easier to pay attention to certain details. Since you move along at your own pace, you're not as likely to miss things you otherwise would have in anime. And I often have a bad habit of doing something else while watching an episode of something, so I'm either tabbed away from it and just listening, or just not paying all that much attention to it. And sometimes I just enjoy reading the stuff more.

So yeah, I really like both for different reasons, which is why I'm likely to watch both the manga and anime adaptations of some series :D

Also this pretty much. I feel like it's much better to move from an anime to a manga rather than from manga to anime, since it'd kinda meet the same problems as with moving from subbed to dubbed. You may make up your own voices/perception of characters while reading the manga, and end up disappointed from how it was adapted into the anime, but when going from the anime to the manga you've already been presented with all that.

Anime I guess since they put more effort in making it. Plus I just wanna sit down and watch chillin than flippin pages or clicking to switch pages. (Also sounds yeahhhhhhhhhh)

B-but, the mangaka put effort into their drawings ;-; I mean, some anime series' quality can be questionable at times, like PSYCHO-PASS. During its original run, I was always scouring Tumblr, and people would often post the derpiest moments from each episode that I never even realized while I was watching it myself XD Nevertheless, one of my favourite series. But I know what you mean in regards to watching versus having to actually click through pages. I read the entire Gakuen Alice manga within a day, and by the end, my index finger was cramped :c

Pretty much what happened to me catching up to naruto for like 200 chapters in a day lol. Well the thing is I enjoy anime better but I like reading manga as well.
