    ...if you've ever been into a GAME store, this title will make sense. xD

    Anyways, this is a topic about where and how you buy your games! Do you buy your games brand new, or pre-owned? In your local store, or online? Do you shop about to get the best deal, or will you stubbornly stick with a single retailer for reward schemes or out of a sense of loyalty?

    To answer my own questions, I typically shop online, at GAME or Amazon...GAME unless the price difference is greater than £5. Reward card points are nice, but there are limits...if I'm going to be paying £25 on Amazon for what would cost £40 on GAME, I'm obviously going to go with the former. Since pre-owned prices are usually within £5 of the RRP for new games I usually wind up buying them new.

    ...that said, I'm in my local store every week and the staff all know me by name now, and I make a lot of impulse purchases in there. xD
     
    I mostly get from GAME primarily and Amazon is my second choice if its (a lot) cheaper or not in stock at GAME. GAME's dispatch is quick, but they use Royal mail (which is far to slow) delivery rather than a better private delivery service.
    Amazon delivery wise is a mixed bag, Takes to long for them to dispatch. but when dispatched they use their own delivery fleet or other private delivery so are quite fast. Also sometimes chaper to buy from Market place rather than Amazon direct and their delivery is a mixed bag. For exaple I ordered Disney infinity 1 and some figure packs from Amazon this week , but some from Amazon itself, others from the market place (as cheaper from Market place), Figures from Amazon itself has arived but I am waiting for the game its self from a market place seller =p.

    I have not bought a game from a shop in years, but I still check GAME and HMV (HMV are great for DVD'S) regularly but the cost is to high opposed to online and the selection of games on offer is poor.

    Also I always get new, never pre owned as like Meloetta says the savings arn't all that great.
     
    Pre-owned. All the time. Even though it might not be the best saver on the market, I use PowerUp Rewards with Gamespot and I've saved at the very least a couple hundred dollars through that program. Unless it has an incentive to buying it new - such as the Dark Souls II figurine with a preorder - I always go preowned.

    Non-JP titles - ALWAYS pre-owned
    Neps - ALWAYS day 1/week 1
    Other JP titles - Mostly new but if pre-owned is available then pre-owned.
     
    lol i've noticed that lately that pre owned games aren't that much cheaper than the brand new game. i usually buy my games new in store at gamestop. the only game i've ever downloaded is monster hunter 4 because it came installed on my new 3ds xl (i got the monster hunter edition one. eeek!) i feel like i might start downloading more games online because it saves me the hastle of pre orders and driving to the store.
     
    I'll go for pre-owned, but only if it includes everything. Was going to buy one used game, but it ended up being the wrong region.

    Online, it annoys me if people use 'like new', but it's only the cartridge. It should mean everything you would get with a new game, except without the plastic, a possible previous save file, and of course, a lower price. Good condition as well please.

    Most of the games I buy are usually either new or digital. If I can get a game new then I will, but if I can't then I really don't have a choice.
     
    I almost always purchase my games at GameStop and I almost always buy them new. The only time that I do not purchase my games at GameStop is if they don't have what I'm looking for or, in that case I try another nearby store, and the only time that I did not buy my games pre-owned was in December last year, although it was only 1 game. I don't like getting my games pre-owned, especially if on disc and even if the store guarantees that the disc will work, simply because I want it in new condition so that I can get the most out of the disc. If it is a cartridge, I'm more okay if I get it pre-owned, but I still prefer having a new cartridge in new condition.
     
    ALWAYS new. Now I work and have money to spend I always try to buy new. Gotta support those devs plus I love having games in mint ass condition. GAME is alright but even their new games are kinda battered unless it's hot off the press. Amazon is usually my go-to.
     
    I usually go to Gamestop to get new games and Amazon for used, though I usually get everything new when possible. Whether or not I get a game used depends on money and pricing, if it comes with its case and anything else it may come with, and if I really want to support the developer of that particular game.

    They seriously charge MORE than the game was worth when it was released for a used copy! I bought HG when it was first released, like within a week, and both games were 40 dollars, even with the Pokewalker (which these used ones don't even have!). It really bugs me that they think this is in any way fair.

    A lot of times I buy used, but stuff like this is really off putting.
     
    mostly brought my games are new notably new games prices are really big variety out there. If someone sold their owned games to the shop, let's just hope they have a save file :c
     
    Unless it's like...a relatively rare (and/or old) game and the only option I have is to buy used, then I definitely prefer buying new. Although I won't disregard used games entirely, I still like going through used games at stores...I mean, that's how I found my copies of Golden Sun 1 and 2, so worth it.

    When it comes to buying my games, I'm more likely to go down to a local Gamestop or Best Buy (or even Walmart, sometimes). Only if I can't find it in any of those places will I then turn to online shopping. And I usually don't care where I buy it (unless there's a very noticeable price difference), as long as I can find it. :P
     
    Mario and Pokemon games don't get marked down, even years latter. Lego Games get marked down within weeks - seen this happen on the last two games. The worst offender is FF13 $60 at Wal-Mart, $6 at Gamestop. That is how bad 13's reputation is.

    Games are so much cheaper 18 months after release. I can usually buy and resell them old games without losing much money at all - almost like renting.
     
    I bought my copy of Bravely Default new from Target, but managed to get it as the same price as the used store had. Hurray for online sales.
     
    Being more of a retro gamer, I go to a local used game shop we have here called Replays. They price their games lower than online. For example, you could get Sonic Adventure 2 Battle from Replays for $15 while it goes $20 online typically, plus there's shipping. Also they sell Earthbound (when it shows up which is rare of course) for $35-40. If you're a collector, you know that's a damn good steal. But yeah, I stick to Replays for older games. When it comes to newer games or even the previous generation of games, I'll stick to GameStop. I work there and have a discount so there's that, haha. For new releases...like really new releases, I'll just get a new copy. If I can find a used copy of the game I want and the box is still really nice, I'll usually pick that up instead of a brand new copy.

    Boyfriend the other day walked through his local game store and found that Professor Layton games are still expensive even after being released for a while. And I've seen one of them almost double the original price. I didn't realize how valuable those games were until now...

    Regardless of whether I'm working or not, spending $80 on a game in Canada is becoming scary. It hasn't even been that long since they raised it from $60 to $70 and now there are apparently some that will be $75. I've resorted to buying games digitally whenever possible mainly because of that and I'm often too lazy to go outside.

    I do own a number of pre-owned games though, but I wouldn't mind dishing out the money for a brand new copy if it's a game I've been meaning to get.

    80 dollars damn! I live in the UK and I would be VERY reluctant to spend more than £50 on a game. I like buying new but I rarely buy new games shortly after they come out. I usually get new copies years down the line, so they're still factory sealed and in best condition but they cost like half the price or whatever. I only buy day 1 or close to release on occasion, for example the Bloodborne release. Don't plan on doing that again for a while! Games lower in price so much. Except Nintendo games..
