Tynamo line - These Pokémon are classified as Electric Fish Pokémon. Fortunately they are under the Amorphous Egg Group, or I would be scratching my head till it bleeds. Lol But still it looks like an eel, so it should be at least part Water-type. :( I careless about the Tynamo family having zero type weaknesses.

Gyarados - I understand that they wanted to make Dragon-types rare at that type as well as preventing Gyarados from becoming into something that is too tough (there wasn't any genuine Dragon-type move in Gen I, but they are still tough on the defensive aspect). So I won't blame them for making this fella part-Flying instead of having Dragon-type as its secondary type. They didn't wanna mess up with the consistency that's why Gyarados is still a Flying-type over these years. (Rotom is looking at you through the TV screen, Game Freak.) But hey! Dark-type as its secondary type in Mega Evolution?

Lugia - Dude, you're the Guardian of the Sea? Aren't you suppose to be Water and Flying? Oh, you can't even learn Hurricane, despite what the Pokédex says about you. :(

Goodra - Ah, I don't even get why this fella isn't Dragon/Poison or Dragon/Water. It can learn even more Poison-type moves than some Poison-type Pokémon. :/

Mr. Mime - Please tell me which part of this [insert explicit language] looks like a fairy?

Feel free to list any Pokémon with typings don't make any sense, in your own opinions.

I feel like most of what was mentioned in the OP was sorta spot-on, but one that I think deserves a mention is Dunsparce. Its Pokedex entries mention it being able to dig yet it's not part Ground-type which would have been pretty cool.

Mmm yeah Goodra should have been Dragon/Poison because it's often dripping in slime. D: That or it could have ditched that key trait and become maybe Dragon/Fairy for its cuteness. Some others that come to mind that could have their typing revised:

Golduck = Water/Psychic yes! The anime made it very clear that Psychic has prominent psychic powers. :B

Gorebyss / Huntail = should have become Water/Psychic and Water/Dark respectively. They're both brutal Pokemon that live in the deepest parts of the ocean, but Gorebyss has seemed to naturally develop psychic powers.

Helioptile / Heliolisk / Litleo / Pyroar = I don't really understand the need for the Normal typing, so they should be pure Electric or pure Fire. They're normal animals with elemental powers, so what, what about many of the other creatures such as Pikachu, Jolteon, Growlithe, etc? I think something like Girafarig has merit in being a dual type because its body is split.

Chansey line = Fairy types. There is a legend that centers about this Pokemon that if you consume its egg, you are filled with happiness. It also has a very cute design with fringes. If Clefairy/Jigglypuff/Togepi made the jump to Fairy, I'm not sure why this one was left out. I wondered why Audino was left out, but it now has an evolution.

I feel Luxray should have been made partially a dark-type.

Whenever we see this Pokémon, I believe many of us would agree that it reminds us of this particular type-group. Due to design reasons, I feel it would've made sense. Aside from that, it's also got access to a ton of dark attacks in its arsenal, and if they had turned Luxray part dark, they would have gained some damage boost, making it more viable on competitive side of things. In a way, it would've been a win-win!

I know some people have the misconception that Gyarados was meant to be a sea serpent or some other monstrous creature, but the legend it is based on states clearly that the carp became a dragon. It just doesn't fit that it doesn't have a dragon typing.>:(​

That was sort of the point of Eelektross' line, though. It was meant to LOOK like a fish but not actually be one. You don't even encounter them in water, you encounter them in a cave. They float, and swim through the air -like- it was water. Them being pure Electric with Levitate means they're not weak to ANYTHING. Make it Electric/Water, and you completely ruin the one thing that makes it special.

In all fairness, Gyarados is based on a dragon wind-kite as well as the dragon legend. Those long, swaying kites that look like dragons with wide open mouths? That's the origin behind its appearance. I agree the Mega should become Water/Dragon, though, and I think the normal one SHOULD get some more Flying moves.

From what I've heard, Mr. Mime is based on a japanese elf or something, so I guess that explains the mystical implications Fairy gives? Kind of weak reasoning, though. I personally feel like it should have remained Psychic pure.

I agree on Lugia being Water, but I feel like it shouldn't be Psychic. I get that it has Psychic capabilities, but it's a gigantic legendary -BIRD-, specifically connected to Ho-oh (another bird) and the Kanto legendary birds. The "Flying" typing is pretty much mandatory. Psychic should have just been a tertiary theme to it, not an actual type... and Water/Flying is a great typing, anyhow.

Some of my own...

Luxray: Should be Electric/Dark. It has distinct, iconic characteristics of a Dark-type, and it even learns a decent number of Dark moves. Being Electric/Dark would make it better because it'd give it a lot more resistances and even an immunity. It'd also give it Dark-STAB, which is always nice to have.

Electivire: Possibly Electabuzz as well, but Electivire NEEDS to be Electric/Fighting. It's a giant gorilla-cat... thing with Popeye arms and massive punching fists. It battles BY fighting in a very FIGHTING-type way. Being Electric/Fighting would be an amazing, UNIQUE typing that would actually make it somewhat usable. STAB on Electric -and- Fighting? That's scary.

Celebi: I get that this would actually CHANGE a present type rather than just adding one... but it simply makes no sense why Celebi isn't Grass/Fairy. It's basically THE fairy Pokemon in terms of its design and origin. It's by far the most "Fairy-like" Pokemon in appearance besides maybe Flabebe, and Fairy is a MUCH BETTER TYPE than Psychic. It'd actually become pretty powerful, so long as it got Fairy type moves to accompany the change.

MEGA Blastoise: Why aren't you Water/Steel? Even your normal form has METAL CANNONS sticking out of it, but THIS version specifically goes out of its way to become more like a tank... a literal tank. It hunches over further, gets a big cannon in the center, and becomes bulkier. There is NO reason it shouldn't be Water/Steel. Maybe it'd actually make Blastoise a genuine threat if they gave it this typing.

Finally...

This. So very, very much this. The fact they decided to give Yanmega the most GENERIC, not to mention AWFUL typing for a bug instead of the obvious, far more fitting, and UNIQUE Bug/Dragon typing is beyond me.

Regarding Mega-Blastoise, there's always a chance that they might have overlooked it on making the Pokémon water-steel. I do agree that it would have made sense if it were a mixture of these two types, though!

Blastoise is the only non-steel type to learn Flash Cannon naturally, if you wanted more reasons why Mega Blastoise not being part steel is baffling.

Just remembered posting in a similar thread from another forum. Zygarde is my pick, really wish it was part Poison even if it doesn't make sense because it damn looks like it could be Poison.

Ah yes, I remember when our own Gunner was gutted her beloved Bellossom ended up remaining a pure Grass-type. With the ability to learn Moonblast and Dazzling Gleam (the former via Oddish only) you'd think she deserves to be a Fairy-type but, no.

I'll give you Helioptile's evolutionary family, because I don't get it at all, but Litleo and Pyroar make sense. Aside from their hair - Litleo's little mohawk or Pyroar's mane - they don't look Fire-type whatsoever. Take that away, but keep everything else the same, and you could totally put them into the games as pure Normal-type.

Good God, no. Gyarados is plenty good enough even with its current typing - Gen I didn't need it running around without any weaknesses (because of the lack of Dragon moves). As far as it's Mega Evolution, yeah it probably should've been Dragon. ORAS even finally gave it a decent physical Dragon move in Outrage via Move Tutor; it essentially has no Dark-type moves.

This is something that always bothered me. To me, it just seemed like they were tacking on Normal-typing to random things when, in reality, all it did was give them a Fighting weakness (Ok, and a resistance to Ghost, I suppose).
