    Objection! The Pokémon detective duo has appeared!

    Sorry, I can't resist that reference.

    Anyway, apparently it's just announced that there will be a new spin-off called "Detective Pikachu! ~Birth of a New Duo~", where you play as a Detective who has Pikachu in it. Together, they're solving any kind of happenings that occurred around them! It's listed on the official site as puzzle solving "Cinematic Adventure Game".

    Are you looking forward to this latest spin-off and solving crimes together with this duo?

    This game was announced two years ago when it was still in development. Everyone thought it was quietly cancelled when there was no new information about its progress. Glad to see they pulled a Yoshi's Woolly World and SMT x FE on us that the game is still coming. Hearing a male Japanese voice from a Pikachu makes me cringe a bit though.

    I was waiting for someone to post a topic on this. As Pinkie-Dawn said, I had thought that the production of this game had perhaps been cancelled....
    Japan is getting it next week? Will this game be localized? What's the gameplay like and the premise behind the story? Can the Pikachu talk because he was formerly human or something? I wish to see this video translated... :o

    I figured the game probably still existed, and am glad I was right! It looks really nice graphics wise, and I'm interested in seeing where they go with this. I also predict the pikachu will be Looker who somehow got turned into one.

    Literally they're announcing every single possible game title except for the next Main Game.

    {XD} Wow; this announcement was a total blind-side; while I had a small twinge of hope that the "Detective Pikachu" game might still be in development, I thought that the "Detective Pikachu" game had become vaporware! It's been about 2+ years since the initial concept pictures! Based on the text at the end of the Japanese trailer, apparently it was developed by Game Freak, unless I'm mistaken...? Good to see that the game was still in development. As mentioned elsewhere, it's hilarious how The Pokemon Company is announcing pretty much every type of Pokemon game possible (from the genres of action-fighting to picross to mobile global-positioning-system integration to puzzle-detective) except a core series Pokemon game such as Pokemon Z. Manly!Detective-Pikachu sounded hilarious in Japanese; I hope that the videogame gets an English release so I can hear whatever the hilarious English voice will be..I thought that the Japanese trailer would suffice for English localization.

    And, as mentioned elsewhere, the boy totally looks like Christopher Robin of the Hundred-Acre Wood from Winnie the Pooh! {XD}

    Creepy facial-recognition!Pikachu For The Win For Major Loss ..I really don't know.. XD

    EDIT: Oh, wow; I just recently learned that this game's preliminary footage was featured on the NHK television show, The Professionals..I love that show due to its interesting subjects ^^{:3}; I didn't know that Tsunekazu Ishihara (of The Pokemon Company) was featured on there in 2013! {D:}

    Hearing Pikachu with that deep of a voice made me recoil in my seat. Also, it's a shame they're going with a talking Pikachu instead of using Meowth, since he already talks. And doesn't have this awkward really deep voice. (And isn't yet another Pikachu.)

    They filmed parts of this trailer in Boston, probably back when the World Championships were there. So that tells you another part of the timeline for the development of this game.

    Huh, this will take some time to grow on me, but I think that's because of my strong desire for a new main-series game. I think my attitude would be a lot different if the next game were announced.

    That being the case, don't knock it 'til you try it! I'm certainly going to give this a try when it comes out. Hopefully it gets localized!

    I'm crying, Pikachu has a deeper voice than I do. Brb, need to go book the doc for a check.

    Spoiler:

    At this rate I wouldn't be surprised if there's gonna be a crossover between Pokemon and Ace Attorney. Any crossover is possible now. *scratches head* Maya Fey would look great with Vulpix, Misdreavus okok that's going off topic.

    I'm not sure about this game though, it looks child oriented? Prolly kids will enjoy this fun detective game, haha.

    Just saying, but this sounds like quite a trip.

    Their first act as a detective is to determine whether or not you really are Justin Bieber.

    Is this actually going to be a full blown spin off series that you can buy at a store? Or is it going to be a smaller game than say, Mystery Dungeon.

    You can... buy a download code from retail in Japan. :V So smaller. Mind you, some games came out first for eshop only before eventually getting a retail version as well.

    I wish they would incorporate certain elements from here (being a detective, solving mysteries, and so forth) into a main-series title rather than using their usual formula (saving the region for a criminal organization). At least in my opinion, it would've been a nice change.

    Pikachu's voice sounds strange to me in the trailer, so I hope they change that part if they localize it, though I'd be interested in playing it either way. I like mysteries and I like Pokemon, and it sounds like a fairly relaxing game to play/not too reflex-based, which is what I'm looking for. I don't know if they'll localize it, but I'm more interested in it than I've been in some of the other spin-offs lately (I really liked the new PMD, but Picross was a major disappointment for me--I like the puzzles, but didn't find the game compelling enough to pay the price tag necessary to actually make any progress, and I don't enjoy playing levels I've already beaten repeatedly--and I'm having trouble getting psyched about Pokken, too, maybe because I'm not that into fighting games, don't have anyone to play local multiplayer with, and don't actually own a Wii U).

    This is a pretty fun game! I finished it this morning and my playtime was only about 10 hours, so it's very short, but it seems like it's going to be episodic and it was only ¥1200 so I was really content with it!

    Pikachu is great. The voice was really offputting at first but you get used to it really fast and Pikachu himself has a lot of personality, lol. Tim is good too. My favourite part, though, is just the integration of people and Pokemon in the world. We get to see a new view of the Pokemon world, up close in a little segment of a city instead of all across a country, and talking to everyday people about how they feel about the Pokemon around them (and talking to the Pokemon about how they feel about their "partners"!!) is really interesting.

    The actual gameplay is... eh... it's a lot of investigation, so running around talking to people and Pokemon, and solving fairly simple mysteries. There's not really any major leaps in logic and if you know all the Pokemon, sometimes it's super obvious from the start what you're looking for and you still have to go through all the motions to solve it from scratch like it wants buuut... it's still pretty fun!

    The visuals are interesting too. They did some weird mocap with Pikachu, but it works pretty well in the game. There's only a few cutscenes where I thought it looked weird or uncanny valley-ish. Otherwise, Pikachu and the other Pokemon move really well and the art style was great. The humans look pretty good too!

    Basically, if it comes West, I totally recommend it!
