...and now I have to make a new account!

What measures do you usually take if you forget the password to an account of yours? Do you go as far as to trying to recover the account, or do you just sign up for a new account? Feel free to discuss your stories of this happening as well!

I have a bunch of different passwords so I try all of them first, before resetting my password. Some websites give you a random generated password that you have to use from now on if you get your password reset...which is torture. >_>

If all else fails, I'll get my password reset or emailed to me. If I forget my username, I'll get that sent to me.

If I forget both...I'm doomed. But luckily that doesn't happen too often. :)

I use the same password for almost everything, and have it fully memorized. Would I ever forget it? Maybe, but chances are pretty slim. xD;; It's a little short, but I feel that's very secure, so I have no reason to worry. If I ever do wind up forgetting it, somehow, then I'd just reset it. Nobody would want to go through the hassle of creating new accounts, haha.

If it's possible, I would rather just sign up with a new account. I have a habit of constantly creating new email accounts as well, and because of that, I feel compelled to re-signup for all the other services/websites that I've joined \: Often times I'll rarely go into the old accounts and just delete everything, realizing that I actually signed up for numerous things which are inevitably neglected once I move everything to the new one. Although if it's an important account that I've invested a lot of time towards, like PC, I would want to recover my password in any possible way I could.

I use keepass(I don't trust online password storage) to keep all my passwords safely stored on my computer in-case I forget any passwords.

I would try all that I could to get the account back.

I actually had a problem with my computer a few months back, that ended up with me having to reformat and reinstall things. Here was the biggest problem - I couldn't remember my passwords for things, including some rather important things, although they were saved on a text file on my computer (that I couldn't access). I was frantically trying everything I could to recover at least my email accounts, since if I had my emails I could recover all my other passwords. I managed to recover one without knowing the password (thank goodness for backup email accounts) - and while I was able to get that file off my computer before the reformat happened, it was definitely scary before then. I kept trying to figure out what all I would be able to do if I didn't manage to get that file.

(And the moment I got that file back, I changed most of my passwords back to ones I could remember.)

I don't like making new accounts because of losing the password to my old one. :( It'll bug me for the longest while if I just abandon something like that, so I try to do everything I can to keep what I do have.

I try to recover my account by putting the email I'd probably have signed up with into forgotten password and hope for the best. Or if they ask for my username instead.. well, I'd just guess through some of my usual picks and hope one of them is right. Sometimes this results in my getting locked out for a while due to too many attempts whoot.

Very rarely do I make a new account though since I highly prefer accessing my original. If I can't get on it chances are I'd just give up and move onto other things!

^All of the above, but also I have been known to make a new account, for example on here (although that was also to recover my reputation), on tribal wars and on a few other sites. Things like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc. I always manage to recover eventually, although I tend to forget my Instagram username a lot.

After this whole Heartbleed thing I've changed a lot of passwords as a precaution and now remember none of them - had to make multiple notes that I hide in easy-to-access but relatively hard to search places.

    I'd probably contact customer service or an administrator if I ever do forget my password and it won't take my email address. In case I forget my security questions and such, it's probably the best way. I refuse to let go of my accounts at all. ;;

Well, I usually only have two passwords that I use for accounts, but there have been cases where stupid rules (Must include a capital, a number, etc) made me forget what the hell I had. I'm usually able to recover it rather simply, but there was one case I remember where the email my account was connected to was a fake. This was my old FB too, haha. I didn't exactly forget what the password was, but let's just say I didn't know what it was. I made a new account after a few months away from the site.

This is usually the only problem I have. The passwords I had been using for years were all numbers, and it became an issue when sites started implementing all these rules about passwords that have to have symbols and uppercase and lowercase letters. The worst one was Yahoo, which doesn't let me use any letters that were part of my name, and it also doesn't let me use any password I had previously used, so I end up resetting my password literally every time I need to access my Yahoo account (which, fortunately, isn't a lot anyway, but it's still frustrating). I now keep a .txt file in my documents just for that password.

I don't think I've ever signed up for a new account just because I forgot the password. If I've tried every password recovery option and still can't get back into my account I'll just stop trying to get into the account. I've never lost the password for anything really important anyway, just certain forums and stuff that I can live without. And my Yahoo account.

I have like one or two major passwords for everything, you guess those two right, and viola~ You now have access to everything in my life.

I usually use passwords that are extremely simple to use, so I can remember them easily. My memory's not the best, so I also save most of my passwords via cookies. Just different variations of my base password, the root of it all. They're usually centred around topics and interests of mine, or just really easy phrases. I go all out to recover passwords, then I make the new one a lot easier than the last.

When I usually type a complicated password it makes hard to remember and I'll try to recover it, then change to something hard, but easily remember.

When you make a new account in certain sites, they might ask you to use symbols, alpha and numbers all together or just alphnumerals. Finally, most sites doesn't let you use less than 5 characters or FEWER, but harder passwords.

Symbols + Numbers and Alphabets annoys me the most because of high concern of security.
