Serious OK Boomer!

We've been hearing them lately the whole "Okay Boomer", "Shut up Karen" or "Calm down snowflake" with people. People saying it's racist or you look stupid saying it. Honestly to me you don't want to be called something then don't do things to be called that.

The one that bugs me the most is the Karen one that people call it the new N-Word or how it brings down women standing up for themselves. Being called a Karen isn't an attack to ALL women its the ones who make a huge scene over something small. They are the ones who demand to speak to the manager because an employee won't let them get their way or they need to show ID. There's been videos I've seen where a lady throws a hissy fit because she needs to show an ID and the employee won't finish the transaction without an ID. They claim they come to the store all the time and will show off their American Express card. They make a huge scene when all you had to do was show your ID and you'd be out a whole lot sooner.

How about you? What do you think about these? What are others that I've missed?

I honestly see these terms such as "snowflake", "boomer", and "karen" as a bit derogatory, but of different degrees. Like ik if someone called me a snowflake I'd feel a little disrespected because it would feel like they're (the person calling me this) disparaging me or what I have to say because they don't agree with me or my lifestyle or whatever. :l

I think the reason all of these new words to describe people are coming into existence is because now that everyone has a phone or social media they can record people's behavior and spread it across the internet, so with so many examples of people acting a certain way that other groups of people disagree with, people coin these little terms for them. I don't think I'd generally want to be associated with these people just because they come off as kinda rude in general.

I feel like the Snowflake one is the most bad, because it's something I see that's mostly used by conservatives to mock LGBT people. 'Boomer' is kinda showing disrespect towards elders, but I don't think it's meant to be super rude usually? Karen is just... rude but not as bad I think. I mean, it's better than calling them b**** or something. :s

I've never heard of the Karen term prior to this post; the people that I associate with do not utilise such terms for each other and I would wager that I do not spend enough time in any one place to hear it just off of the wall.

As for what I feel about these terms, I am rather indifferent. I can safely assume that I would not bother associating with people who used these terms because I would rather spend my time around people who do not focus on the negative aspects of others. Wasting the effort to mock someone with a petulant term is rather pathetic, when you could just live and let live.
If someone were to use such terms towards me then I probably wouldn't even notice, to be quite blunt; I do not see why I should be bothered by people disrespecting me? Especially people I do not even know from the internet so, I say, more power to them.

Best way to describe a "Karen" is usually a middle-aged white woman who "demands the world exist according to her standards with little regard for others, and she is willing to risk or demean others to achieve her ends." with "entitlement, selfishness, a desire to complain" characteristics.

Well, that does sound like you have described most of the human race as of late.

I feel like all of the terms mentioned are not as much insults as they are a way of saying "please stop, you're embarrassing yourself". And if you feel called out and triggered by that... well, I guess you're just giving the other side the confirmation that the way they called you is indeed what you are.
If the term comes your way purely to discredit you, why would you be upset? It just shows the weakness of the other side that is grasping at straws to win the argument. You win in that case.

tl;dr all of the terms are fine in my book. They trigger those that truly are those things and have no effect on those who are not.

Considering the current state of things, I could care less about some pissy, entitled middle-aged woman getting offended by being branded a "Karen." There are greater issues in the world, such as the fact that the police officers who senselessly murdered Breonna Taylor remain free.

in twenty five years, people will laugh at us for using terms like boomer and karen, so I don't care. Third one, though, that should just stay in 2010 and on Tumblr where it belongs.

I see them all the time, but I've never taken it seriously.

I only thought of them as people memeing.

literally who cares

the joke of the boomer mindset is an inadequate way of attacking the actual issues that breed the boomer mindset - wealth accumulation, protection from consequences, the increasingly precarious gig economy that more and more people are forced to rely on, etc

tying such a damning issue - even mockingly and tangentially - to a generational difference is the inelegant part of 'ok boomer' and is the only thing worthy of critique, the associated generational 'culture war' shit supposedly attached to it is just worthless distraction and glurge and no one should give a fuck about it, similar to not giving a shit about whoever cries about karen

look under the surface

"Generation Wars" are just dumb. There's good and bad in every gen. There's impoverished boomers and wealthy millennial's. People of a certain age range aren't your enemy.
Plus I'm a millennial and I don't know jack shit about anything modern, like age isn't much of an identifier. My 69 year old mother delivers the news.

For the Karen thing, if my 50 year old cousin, named Karen, can deal with it so can anyone.
