Okay so, a tale for you my fellow General Chatters. I've actually had a small breakout today. I guess it's not quite bad enough that I need to go into work like The Phantom of the Opera tomorrow, but I'm definitely thinking "for god's sake I'm 23 stop already."

I could go to a doctor, I could get medicated help, but it's not quite something where I'd get medicated help with the slight but existent side effects that could occur.

I've decided on the following so far:
-I shall eat One Raw Carrot Per Day (I don't get any vegetables and apparently this one's good.)
-I shall BAN myself from having chocolate (this one's really hard I don't think I've had days without it...)
-I shall sleep in a more Orderly Fashion. (because that's something I'm doing extremely wrong at the moment.)
-I'm going to shave with le electric razor daily. I currently do it every 3-4 days but that might provoke it more because of how thorough I have to be when I do it.

I do go swimming quite often, but I'm not sure about the best way to remedy the exposure to the chlorine. (it definitely sets me off...)

Now, my dear forum dwellers. I must ask you for your wisdom and experiences in this field. Have you got any tricks up your sleeves that were super effective? Any warnings about what I could well be guilty of doing wrong? Any and all assistance in this matter will be greatly appreciated. I eagerly await your posts. Perhaps our shared wisdom will defeat this menace.

How often do you drink water before, during and after swimming? Dehydration can pretty bad for your skin when chlorine is present.

I am pretty guilty of not drinking enough water most days... that's another thing I'll have to push myself to do more! Cheers. :)

You should focus on your diet and just washing your face with gentle cleansers. If you say your diet has no vegetables you are doing something VERY wrong, without even worrying about the acne.

For me, focusing on running was what I needed to remedy my acne issue. I improved my diet, sleep, and exercise in one fell swoop and this drastically improved my skins health as well.

I did all of the things that are supposed to help and I still had/have breakouts :( Maybe you are just unlucky like me and will still have breakouts even in your 20s

God I hate acne. A few years ago I went on Accutane because I was so tired of mine and while the process was really stressful (dry skin, lip cracking, monthly blood tests, etc) it cleared up mostly everything and I've been acne-free since. :) Nowadays I try to work out as much as possible and stick to a healthier diet. Also important to change your pillowcase every day or two since the oils from your face get all over it when you sleep. Ew. I also wash my face every morning and before bed.

This right here. I don't wash my pillow cases nearly that often. But after thinking about face oils going on my pillowcases I figured washing them more frequently would help. Doing that in junction with washing your face before and after going to bed should help wonders. :)

    - dunno how much water you're drinking but drink moar
    - if you touch your face often cut that shit out immediately
    - after a swim wash your face (preferably with a soap of some sort) then use a facial moisturizer afterward since chlorine dries out your skin
    - also if where you swim at is outside throw on some sunscreen

I dunno about all that no chocolate, carrot eating shit. I think a lot of it's hormonal and what not, you just grow out of it or don't tbh. A $80 cleanser probably won't do any better then a $10 one. Keeping your skin, pillow case clean, not touching your face a ton, picking at it, ect... I really don't think what you eat matters guys, unless all you eat is trash? Idk. I think this is a small factor. But I've lived in very dry and very humid climates, and same with how they effect your hair, they do effect your skin, it'll contribute a little. It's mostly genetics.

Unless you have a constant problem with acne, and it doesn't sound like you do, you just need to make some small lifestyle and hygiene choices and you should certainly see a difference. One thing I'm guilty of is not washing my face immediately after I workout and I've noticed a huge difference now that I'm keeping on it.

I... never thought about this. I'm gonna start changing mine more often! Ew. :x

It was dairy that did it for me, I've cut of most dairy and my face is getting clearer by the day. I'm also eating healthier which helps contribute to the skin getting clearer.

Try adjusting to lukewarm or cold showers. iirc it doesn't do much to stop acne immediately, but it keeps your skin healthy which is better in the long run for blemishes and overall health and appearance of the skin.
On that note, try homemade sugar scrubs for showers. As someone with a severe skin disorder they really help. (And they feel nice)

Just avoid adding oil for your acne.

I'm almost 25 and omfg I still break out like a freaking 15 year old.

The one thing I did notice was that I stopped eating chocolate for a couple months and I did not break out as much as in the past. I avoided ordering java chip frappuccinos and eating ice cream altogether, and that drastically changed my face. Nowadays I only get one breakout a month which goes away after the usual face-washing routine. I'm pretty sure if I start eating chocolate again I'll probably go back to my 15 year old face again.

I would also highly recommend you washing your face with oil-free scrubs once or twice daily. Most importantly, this:

anything similar as long as it says "oil free", you are guaranteed to a cleaner face.

reduce the amount of fat in your diet. Chocolate is included but not the only culprit

    When it comes to soap/shower:
moisturise after every shower if you notice you have dry skin

use face wash soap (not scrub) once a day if it's not dry

Do NOT use a face scrub daily these should be used once or twice a week only

Acne is the worst. It's been an issue for most of my immediate family, though some of us have had it worse than others. I have no idea what works best - the best thing you can do is to have decent genetics, but that's hardly helpful, haha.

It's definitely gotten better for us as we've grown older, but even my mom still has issues. Hormones and stress are also a big factor, but again, those aren't easy to control.
