Hack Series: Pokémon Ruby Destiny Series

I recently tried Ruby Destiny Life Of Guardians once again, and realized it may not be fully compatiable with many emulators and the real consoles, so jiangzhengwenjzw and I intended to make a compatiablility patch for this, but in the end, he did a lot more than that and I did a lot of bugfix too in the end, so this patch is more than a compatiability patch now. It's more like a full bugfix patch.
This patch was mainly done by jiangzhengwenjzw, I only helped with taking out some minor glitches and testing. So basically, this one is mostly his work, and he allowed me to release this here, thctbm also helped a lot by testing the whole game thoroughly. The following things are changed:
The DAN cutscene at the beginning was taken out because it's not fully compatiable with many emulators and the real consoles.
The bad egg glitches should be taken out too, which makes it impossible to use the save file from the older versions though.
Pressing A constantly before being warpped to new places no longer cause any glitches.
All towns can be accessed with Fly, including the ones in Gento.
Most of the text errors were taken out, along with some palette errors.
Ruby Destiny is now a Key item, the amount of its shards can be checked by pressing USE.
Some unfinished OW sprites are fixed. The icons on the region map were changed too.
In the Ralts catching event, Ralts will always be caught instead of taken out now.

Thank you as always for updating these gems.

I wonder which Base ROM you need for these Patches though as both "Rescue Rangers 2021 Patch" and "Life of Guardians 2025 Patch" do not work after being patched upon "Ruby Version (Europe) (1985) (Rev 2)-AEAC73E6" as recommended.

2021 Patch freezes up at the start of the game with a white screen while MyBoy does not react to any buttons requiring a restart of the app and 2025 Patch gets a "Your copy of this hack may not be legitimate" screen with not way of proceeding into the game.

Am I missing something? I appreciate any help you provide. Could it be that only Reign of Legends require this Base ROM?

Edit: Thanks to hacksrepairman and advanscene.com, both seem to require "Ruby Version (USA) (0894) (Megaroms)-F0815EE7" as this is also connected to the number "0907". At least the Intro looks fine.

The rest two need 0907-Pokemon Ruby Version 1.0 to be the base rom. So RoL seems to be the special one.

The patch was updated a little bit for changing Furruny and Whisperee's icon sprites.
The old link still works:

As someone who enjoyed this series back in the mid to late 2000s, specially the third game, looking at it in comparison to today's ROM hacks for Gen III, it really needs a lot of major work done. You rarely see anyone use Ruby/Sapphire as a base for ROM hacking anymore, since its either Emerald and FireRed that is the main base ROMs used.

So if this series were ever to come back, probably under another developer since I am sure destinedjagold isn't in the hacking scene anymore, and would definitely have to be redone in Emerald. There were a lot of compromises taken when the games were done back in the mid 2000s, which was still pretty early for Gen III ROM hacking in general, but at least today this game could be given a new light with the new tools available for Gen III hacking.

it doesn't necessarily have to be redone in emerald especially if one is adamant about respecting the original artists vision as decomps hacks of ruby and sapphire exist, just not many. many use emerald because it just has the most features to take advantage of. I'd think if a remake were to happen by someone else it'd be more respectful t be a ruby decomp hack but nonetheless i don't think this is a conversation that should be had at the moment as one would have to get jagolds permission to remake it and secondly the guys going through alot judging by his announcement of the cancellation of ruby destiny 4 so he probably needs some space to breathe a bit

it would better off as an emerald decomp hack if a remake is ever considered, considering Em is a better base as a rom than Ruby. If anything, choosing Ruby is just limiting the potential of the game.

Well, yeah Emerald is obviously the better pick in almost any scenario, that's pretty undeniable, but i'm speaking in the context of respecting the original artists vision as limiting the game wouldn't really be a relevant factor when using ruby as a base was a design choice from the get go, besides my reasoning for ruby decomp above it'd still has a better chance of being well put together than any binary base rom hack as using binary while easier in some aspects, can feel like walking on eggshells making adjustments, that said you aren't wrong that Emerald as a base be it decomp or binary is better, however i just disagree in the context of a hack like this although that is just my opinion

you can preserve the vision of the creator despite using a different base rom though. Like whats the point of using Ruby, when you have the Emerald Decomp which has more features? If anything a remake of this game would require a lot of modern features from hack nowadays, as well as an expanded Pokedex that features the cut fakemons, as well as respriting them as they didn't age well, and remastering the ost as majority of them lacks variety instrument wise due to the DirectSound limit of Ruby, which is much higher in Emerald.

You can literally preserve what makes these games good even with a different Rom base, it would just take a rom hacker that actually knows what he's doing

as one would have to get jagolds permission to remake it
Hello.
There would be no need for that. I honestly don't mind.
But some of the fakemon sprites (Felinar most of all), people may need to ask their original creators' permission.

It's insane to see you around after all these years, whenever you post, I find myself thinking about Zel 2.0 and Manipulation and Christos.

Thank you so much for updating this classic (and others)!

It turns out I still have the walkthrough tool and Sappy xml for LoG back then so I decided I should share it here to help preserve history!

I fixed a likely typo on the walkthrough (specifically "If you want to go to Breeze Island, proceed to Chapter 3-D." under Note 1 of Ch2 instead of "3-B") but the original file is included as a copy for archival purposes too. The Sappy xml file assumes the rom code RDLG from original releases but that's not the case with newer fixes (which use the default AXVE of Ruby instead) so you will need to change it in the file (by replacing the default Ruby entry) if you want to actually use it with a newer release.
