So Canada and Europe...
I don't like all of the confusion around Canada...it seems as if they are still figuring it out. You know...as Cyclone said they can drive over the border and get it (well not all, but some). I think that will punish canadian game stores... even those not involved in the early release of XY. And in the end Nintendo still profits from those sells in the U.S. .

Assuming they have a passport, yes they can.

I just put in for a week of vacation from November 21st to November 28th.

I may drive to a local game store to buy Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire (haven't decided yet...) before going to school. That way I'll be assured I have a copy. Or maybe pre-order at game stop. Does anyone know if they have it ready by the day of release?
The fact it's a friday gives me extra time to play the game compared to it being a Sunday release.

Your lucky. I booked mine 23-29th.... only to then find out after I got it off that pokemon isn't out till the 28th in EU, and they wont let me move my holiday. lol

That's awful :( I'm surprised they won't let you change it since it's a holiday well in advance.

I won't be taking any Holiday or time off. Besides the following week would be a mini holiday anyways.

Interesting note: it only says November 2014 on the Canada version.

I do agree that getting it a week later would punish Canadian game stores. People that would buy there will go to America for it instead. And those without passports or NEXUS cards - like me - are left asking why they have to be punished for a corporate failure. Punish the individual chain involved, not everyone.

No, Europe might have language localization delays. And they want to give it to Europe all at once, so they can't just release it in Britain and France (languages already derived from any Canadian version LOL) and not everywhere else.

Also, I wrote Nintendo about this. I got the following reply, and as far as I know I can share this. I've commented in bold-italic at spots. Regular text is the e-mail I received.

Thanks for having taken time to contact us about this. I'm pleased to report that Pokemon Omega Ruby and Pokemon Alpha Sapphire are estimated for release November 21, 2014 for North America. (I already stated this.) Additionally, because Nintendo of America is the distributor for the United States, Canada, and Latin America, we do not have information about products released or announced in other regions.

As you may know, our website's Game Guide (https://www.nintendo.com/games/guide) represents the best place to find the most accurate release dates. Once there, use the questions in the left column to narrow your search based on system, genre, online play, etc. (He forgot to mention that I can't find unreleased games there. Unless I'm missing something.)

When you have narrowed your search, click on the game's title to see all the available information. If what you seek is not yet available, please check back later. When there is new information to share on announced games or other upcoming products, our website is the best official source!

Remember, any posted release dates are estimates and subject to change. (Does no date count?) As a product's estimated release date approaches, you may wish to check with your local retailers to see when it may be available in your area. (I usually do...)

I don't think it'll be language as they should have Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese as irc those were in XY to chose from. Unless of course they removed that for ORAS...if so then I guess it may have been too much work?
Or maybe Europe has a regulation issue...or it's for marketing purposes?

So now I got it. They wanted to punish Canada and italy, so they punished more than 2 billion people with their European 3DS in Europe, Canada, Africa, and Asia. This is our Nintendo, first making a region-locked system, then lying and releasing products weeks after their promise.

And yet, you'll still buy OR/AS, will you not? :P

Also, *week.

Nintendo could've gone a better way about this though, like actually punishing the stores that released early.

Exactly. Instead of thinking every store in the country will do the same thing. It doesn't have as much of an effect in Europe, but in Canada - especially places like Vancouver, just off the U.S. border, and other border cities like where I am originally from - it will hurt sales when the game DOES come out because players will already pick it up in the U.S., then hide it out of sight among the groceries or in the glovebox or something and not make mention of it at the border to avoid paying duty fees.

And yes, they try to milk you however they can. It's a business for them.

And yet I got my Pokemon Y later than everyone else in Canada because it delivered on Monday from EBGames ( Gamestop Canadian name ). Also lot of streamers on Twitch will stream the game.

Is there any news about Canada's release date?
Strangely there has been no news about that. It's been half a month already since the rest of the world got it's dates, wonder what's with the delay in the announcement...

Maybe they're seeing comments about it like these and reconsidering.

Hello Nintendo of Canada. If you are reading this, I want you to think carefully before delaying the Canadian release date. Canada and the United States share a long border that crosses 7 provinces (maybe 8) and 11 states. A delay in the Canadian release date would be an extreme punch in the face to ANY gaming store locating on the Canadian side near that very border. Look at Vancouver, which is roughly 45 minutes from the American border. After a lovely drive, they can head to the States, buy some groceries, and obtain Pokémon OR/AS on November 21 (for cheaper, I might add)...then head back home. That is a sale lost to Canadian gaming stores. A delayed release date even of a day, let alone a week, would cause a loss in sales and be a threat to the very existance of any such store, which could impact them to the point of having to close. If they close, they can no longer sell your products. The same can be suggested for Montreal (about an hour away) and any location along the border in Ontario (Windsor to Detroit via the Ambassador Bridge, and north of there, Sarnia to Port Huron on the Bluewater Bridge, and to the east where Niagara Falls is located near the 405 and access to Buffalo...even some Torontonians would drive for the game...and even Sault St. Marie to the north).

So please, Nintendo of Canada, make the release date the same November 21 that our cousins to the south are getting. It's only the right thing to do business-wise.

I hope they reconsider (actually they may have been reconsidering all along since they didn't even give Canadians a date that they had to take back).
Btw I hope that Nintendo and GF aim here isn't to actually hurt the stores in the first place. Remember that the major theory for the delay is to get revenge on the stores that leaked the early copies...
Also is Pokemon even that much of a major cash cow for Canadian game stores that they'll go bankrupt from a delay?

The point is that if sales are taken away from the stores, it hurts their bottom line. Bankruptcy? Maybe not. And EB covers their Ashes (see what I did there?) by buying back games from people for $20 or more below what they then turn around and sell them for, so they get it back in a hurry. (The lesson? Use Kijiji.)

Cash cow? I went to a midnight release about 45 minutes away from me. There was a large group of maybe 150 people. Streetpass was humming, that's for sure!

Seems like it's more popular in Canada than in the US. At least when comparing where the two of us live.

Good news to the Canadians who are reading this, you don't have to fear punishment because Serebii has revealed the release date of OR/AS for you guys to be November 21st, which is even with the rest of the non-Europe regions.

At least we can finally put the "oh no they're gonna punish us Canadians for releasing X/Y early" thing to rest.
