Well according to rumors, they have split evolutions. Which would be revolutionary.
If true I am sure we will find out soon.
I think it could happen, but I don't fully believe in it yet.
So they say. :pThey can't have exclusive Z-Moves because there's only one for each type.
I think it could be an interesting twist and with all they changed, it could certainly happen. I am still unsure on it. I wouldn't mind a werewolf rockruff, and then different species of wolf for his evolution maybe. Alternate Starter evos adds some neat things to competitive play at least though.I really don't want split evolutions on starters, especially because it ruins the straightforward evolution approach they are supposed to have. Rockruff evolving into a werewolf would be cool but not as different variations please.

Remember we have a trailer coming next Friday so there's still possibility for this "secret" to be revealed. However I feel it likely won't reveal it.
Wait whoa really? When did we hear about the new trailer? Did I just miss this somewhere?

I'm not sure why people are worried about the complication of getting the starters' alternate forms when trading is the easiest thing to do in Pokémon games these days. Not to mention it makes it a bit more fun when you breed your starter and think, "Hey, I can evolve you differently this time!" And if the forms are just form changes that occur systematically (think Meloetta's or Deoxys's formes) then the worry is even less apparent. And I think the latter is more likely, too, because plenty of Pokémon have alternate forms, especially now with Alola forms being a thing. Forms that change based on, say, time of the day, hasn't been done before (except for Shaymin, who goes into Land Forme during the nighttime after it's been graced with the Gracidea flower). Maybe, since we were supposed to think of "flowers" as a hint towards these games, there's a similar flower for the starters and Rockruff (a hibiscus maybe?) that triggers the rotation of these forms, similar to the Gracidea beginning Shaymin's cycle.
I think this is a good way to view them and the reason why I like the idea. Although it seems that most people are against the idea because "it destroys the concept of starter's being iconic". I don't see that though. In my opinion that would open up more marketing which is never bad. So I don't understand the hate for the idea either.
To add on to this, Pichu's implementation didn't affect Pikachu's iconicness; neither did the various Cosplay Pikachu "forms." And we all know, deep down, that one of the starters is going to be more popular than the rest, regardless of how many there are. So really, you've got the right idea. The more forms, the more they can market them. Just look at Mega Blastoise, Mega Venusaur, Mega Charizard 1, and Mega Charizard 2. And they put Mega Blaziken into XY and waited until ORAS to include Sceptile and Swampert... And then the anime threw us this Ash-Greninja character... Alternate forms for starters technically aren't even a new thing! And making two Mega Charizards was definitely a smart marketing move for them. I can only imagine a similar situation here.
Yup, not long until we learn the secret behind Rockruff now. That's definitely something to look forward to next month, hopefully it will give us the starter second stage evolutions too?
Rockruff is becoming an eevee type mon it seems. My guess is that the multiple evolutions is true as are the starters. Glad they are finally addressing it. I look forward to seeing what it is.
