Runescape.... Wait, what?

"Seriously? Runescape sucks!" is what you probably want to say right about now. Well, some of you guys.
For some reason, every year around this time when the leafs start to fall off the trees, I really want to play the infamous MMO Runescape again. Maybe it's because I started playing around this time of year many years ago.

So naturally, upon feeling the urge, I started a brand new account. Well, first I told my oh-so supportive loved one, but then she reminded me that her little sisters played and I felt kind of weird for a day. THEN I started a new account. To my suprise, this is what I started the game to:

Choose your character, and they seem to have voice acting now. I wonder how else they improved the game?

So what is RuneScape:
Basically, it's a huge, free, browser-based MMO that has a ton of different things to choose from to do, be it training one of the many skills, or taking on extremely interesting quests.

Pros & Cons:

-You can play for free
-The quest system is really good for an MMO
-A lot of things available to do
-Updates regularly

Cons
-Could use more interesting controls, but most MMOs use this point&click style to begin with.
-The in-game community usually SUCKS, but the forum and fan communities are often much more generous.

I was seriously considering it, because I too much of a tight-arse to pay for WoW, but I just got into Lord of the Rings Online. It's free like Runescape (you can pay for extra things), but it looks very impressive. Unlike Runescape. I never got too far in Runescape. I would play mage, but the whole Rune thing annoyed me. MP regen or nothing, IMO. From last time I played, I think I'm about Level 18. With almost full black, though. Lemme check.

I never got into Runescpae. All my mates use to play it so I gave if a shot, but I just couldn't get into it at all.

I haven't been playing runescape in years ( I haven't played any other MMORPG for that matter) but this seriously makes me want to create a new account and start playing again.

I still play Runescape. I actually started playing the month the game came out of beta, back in December 2001. So, I mostly play for nostalgic reasons now. I'm still only lvl 84 though, and have about 6 mil cash on me atm... so, I obviously don't play that much anymore.

Im in the same situation with my first account, level and all.
The bad thing about runescape (to me anyways) is that they update so frequently, it makes you feel like you should start a new account after coming back from a break so you don't end up missing out on an update.

Nonetheless, I'm actually kinda stoked to start playing again on a new account . Work needs to stop existing!

^That's what the intro screen looks like now? I don't recall seeing anything like those jobs when I first joined. :\ Interesting...I wonder what would happen if I logged in now? I'd probably choose the Warrior or Ranger class...

Just created a new account, Arma070 for those who'd like to know.
Anyway a cow dropped a staf of air, and I managed to trade that for 1k and an anti dragon shield, pretty good deal if ya ask me. Used the 1k to buy myself an iron pickaxe and an iron chainbody.

@ fenyx4: the jobs don't affect the gameplay at all. You just get different clothes, that's all. You won't probably even see the difference with some armor equiped anyway.

From what ive seen I don't think it really effects anything skill-wise, it's just a preferred class reflecting whatever skill you enjoy using.
You can still change each individual piece of clothing and change the hair.

Also they have voice acting in the tutorial that reminds me of the lady from fable, ha ha.

Yeah, the very first thing I killed dropped a staff of air too, and some other dude gave me some bronze armor and another staff for no reason, so I think those drop a lot or something...

I was gonna give myself some money, but I guess I'll just make do with this. Less hassle that way. lol

Oh, and be sure to change private chat on the bottom left from friends to All, so we can add each other. lol

I used to play years ago - never paid for a member account so I just did all the free-player quests and whatnot. They rarely updated new stuff for free players (back then anyways) so it grew stale for me after a while, seeing I was stingy with it. =p

Yeah, they did lack the updates for F2P. I hear they've been getting better at updating for F2P here lately, though.
I'll tell you what, there is no better feeling than getting membership for the first time in that game, though. Your list of "Things To Do" multiplies tenfold.

It actually looks alright now that you can resize the Window, up the graphics, enable AA run in DirectX mode. Plus quite a few other things changed since.

I'm not into Rune Scape or MMORPGs in general. It just takes too much time before I'm really good and start having fun. I do remember trying to play it a few years ago, but I never played again after I beat the tutorial. These new updates probably won't change my mind. o3o
