So how do you think ORAS will fare in terms of sales in comparison to X and Y? Note that XY sold 4 million in their debut weekend, but that was a worldwide simultaneous release whereas ORAS isn't for Europe. XY sales figures currently stand at 11.3 million after being released for 9 months. So how do you think Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire will compare to these figures? With such a huge following and demand, do you think they could surpass X and Y? Discuss!

I wonder how much yield they'll pull off of folks coming back for the remakes (one of their stated intentions). I want to guess it'll beat XY, but at the same time, losing Europe is a lot of people missing out for an opening weekend.

I'm hoping that Pokemon OmegaRuby/AlphaSapphire fare better than Pokemon X and Y, particularly due to the (likely) hefty post-game, in addition to exceptional content (above and beyond what Pokemon FireRed/LeafGreen and Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver did) new primeval transformations for Groudon and Kyogre amidst all of the new Hoenn-based Mega Evolutions.. {:3} It would be great to finally have a pair of remakes that surpass the sales of the "pioneer pair" of its own generation (not to mention that it would help "make up for" Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire's somewhat astonishing status of being one of the lower-selling pair of Pokemon games; surprisingly, they happened to do better than B2W2 :P)!

Despite RS being some of the lowest performing games over all in terms of sales they were still the second and third best selling GBA games irc, with Emerald actually being the best selling of the GBA games.

I wonder if Omega Ruby will sell more like how the original Ruby did.

I obviously want it to do better than X and Y because Hoenn's my favorite, but it's gonna be hard to compete with such a revolutionary installment. Kalos brought people who had left the franchise back with all the new features, graphic overhaul, and more. Hoenn was a very popular GBA game though, and could possibly have a similar effect. My prediction is it falls short of X and Y, but still does exceptionally well.

Was it Kalos? Or was it Unova? (some say the said the same thing about Unova...or both?)

I think it'll do fantastic. Though if Smash for Wii U does come out the same day as ORAS as is rumored it could hamper some of the sales of the game...

I personally think that ORAS will not sell as much as XY. It's a remake after all.

But if it manages to surpass XY in sales, I wouldn't be that surprised either.

It hasn't even been a year since Pokemon XY have been released yet, and I'm pretty sure that their sales are not slowing down. XY were such game-changing installments in the series that it will be hard for a game labeled as a remake to compete with something that advertises itself as completely 100% new and thus, theoretically "easier" for new people to enter the franchise.

I'd compare it to how much HG/SS were sold relative to D/P/P. People had been wishing for Johto remakes like crazy. I don't know if HG/SS had better sales than the Sinnoh games though :p Somebody else probably knows.

Spontaneously, I don't think OR/AS can trumph X/Y, simply because X/Y is something new and can lure new people into the franchise, while OR/AS might feel like more of a remake of something old that you should already know and thus less accessible to new players. Or so I guess? Meaning, X/Y attracted any old pokémon player and tons of new, while OR/AS will be heaven for old Hoenn lovers but perhaps seem less modern to new fans.

... basically, what Altairis said, I realize xD

It was Generation V that advertised itself as new. Gen VI advertised itself as an 'evolution' of the series which would mean it's 'better' and 'greater', but not necessary 'new'.

Edit: Oh wait, do you mean new as in new region and Pokémon?

Anyways FrLg and HgSs sold pretty well so I don't think OrAs will fall far behind XY. ORAS may actually attract new fans like how FrLg perked my interest in the games.

DP sold 1.5 million in its first weekend.
BW sold 2.6 million in its first weekend.
XY sold 4 million in its first weekend, but it was a global release.

I'd say ORAS has a good chance of selling well above BW's numbers but lower than XY's debut weekend given that Europe has to wait a week. I figure it'll reach half of XY's total average sale numbers by at least the second week it's out in Europe.

The only new fans this will draw are the old fans who lost interest in Pokémon prior to Gen IV. They might buy it as a nostalgia kick and for the novelty of it being ported into the 3D world, but by and large I think this will be a fan thing.

Speaking about opening Weekend since ORAS is releasing on Friday will it's Friday sales count in it's Opening weekend sales? If so it may have as good of an opening weekend as XY as it'll have a 3 day weekend, perhaps making up for the Europe delayed release.

Let's take a look at the pre-XY sales chart:

    Spoiler:

As you can see, neither of the remakes surpassed the vanilla versions of the games during their gen, so I can confidentially predict that history will repeat itself with ORAS, despite the large demand for Hoenn remakes from the fans, showing that they aren't THAT dedicated to buying the copies to surpass XY's sales. It's fans like them why Game Freak will never achieve the dream of surpassing R/B and G/S's overall sales through the sales of a recent Pokémon title.

Hopefully ORAS will surpass HGSS in overall sales like how HGSS surpassed the remakes of the originals.

    I agree with this post.

I think that because it's on the 3DS, it'll do so much better than DP/BW did. 3DS always seem to nail their advertisement. A lot of kids end up having a 3DS for there first handheld console now, so the more new games out there, the more they buy aha.

This comment has made me realize that there are more 3DS owned now than when XY came out. Plus we saw that commercial with the kid (it reminded me of the commercials back in the good old Gen III era) finding the cave, so Nintendo is advertising it more. Perhaps ORAS get close to XY's sales for the first weekend, and continue until the holiday season end then drop off below XY's in comparison to the same time period.

Well they've chosen a prime time to release the games, exactly month before Christmas and a prime time for advertisement too. These games will be on many Christmas wish lists for sure, in addition to release day/week sales too.
