Set vs Switch

I use switch on normal runs, but on Nuzlockes I set it to, well, set. If I had switch on my Black nuzlocke, my poor Leavanny would still be alive... ;-;
But, whatever.

Ever since I found out there was a set option I've always gone with it. I always thought it was cheap to get free switches when the AI can't do it back to you. It has cost me a white out or two in my time, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

Switch. I've known about the Set mode for quite some time, but I like to have some idea of the next opponent before deciding whether to switch or not.

In normal playthroughs I use Shift, because those aren't meant to be difficult.

But for most challenges I do, like Monotypes, Mono-Colors, Nuzlockes, etc, I play on Set, because having to take a hit to switch something in makes it more interesting. The only ones I don't are Wedlockes, because only having two Pokémon to use already makes it restricting enough. I saw some people on Marriland use that, and let me tell you, with my Pokémon Center restrictions X Wedlocke back in December, and then Marriland saying he finds the Set mode too restrictive for Wedlockes, I certainly learned my lesson big time.

Set takes more skill, but I prefer Switch because it allows me to even out the experience among my Pokémon.

I sometimes use Set to make it harder for myself, particularly in Black where I often find myself over-levelled. But mostly I just stick the default Switch setting. I like to think that Switch is just an unfair advantage similar to Assassin's Creed giving you Eagle Vision - where Ezio can track movements, see intentions, in pokémon the protagonist can see what pokémon an opponent is about to send out and pre-empt them. Which is why you're always "special" and able to defeat the likes of Cyrus, N, when Champions and Leaders can't.

I've always been using switch mode. This gives you more freedom as to how your battle goes, allowing you to select which Pokémon you'd like to be using. Set, on the other hand, just sends Pokémon out automatically depending on order. While it does save time, it still takes certain advantages away from you. Competitively, latter option does not seem to exist at all. I mean, it could if you're battling against people console-to-console, but in most simulators, there's no choice for it.

Last time I've ever used set was seven to eight years ago when playing Pokémon Ruby, and haven't touched it at all ever since.

I usually flip on the Set mode for when I'm facing down the Elite 4, Champion or villainous team members. However I usually keep shift on for every other occasion due to constantly raising up smaller Pokemon.

I use the "shift" option. I like to rotate my Pokemon after a KO so that they get stronger without the new Pokemon having to take a hit or getting setup on.

I keep it on shift because I rotate my Pokemon based on levels. I level up my Pokemon one level at a time so no one on the team is way ahead of everyone else or one Pokemon is very under leveled compared to all the others. Just makes it easier so if the Pokemon I have out levels up after fainting its opponent I can switch to the next Pokemon in rotation.

For the main game, I generally keep it on Switch, unless I'm playing a Nuzlocke or something of that nature. If I stop to train Pokemon (that can battle fine on their own), I'll often switch it to Set to speed things up.

Since I only use my starter Pokemon for battling, I set it to switch.

Usually set it to switch, but obviously if I want to do a challenge with one Pokemon I'll use the set button.

For any casual playthrough I normally go with Switch, but if it's a challenge or whenever I'm playing as a certain character (any character from either fandoms or original ones) I'd go with Set.

And normally after reaching the post game of my main game I go with Set.
