Should TMs be breakable or permanent?

I highly prefer them permanent, but it did feel nice back in the day to think hard about which Pokémon I wanted to learn a specific awesome TM and then feeling more eager to continue using that Pokémon because the TM was hard to replace.

Did you have any moments like that? How do you prefer your TMs to be?

Definitely permanent. Never saw what good reason there was/is for them to be single-use. Can't even chalk it up to mechanical/coding limitations in the older days since HMs have been reusable since the very beginning.

I prefer permanent; it's hard to get an ideal team for link battles if good TMs are limited to one Pokémon per use.

I'm fine with single use TMs, as long as the games provide ways to obtain more than one.

You used your Earthquake TM? Well, you can obtain more for exploring the world, doing Raids, etc. I think that's good to incentivize and reward players for taking part in certain in-game activities, which feels more satisfying at the end than "Got Earthquake, now I can teach it to every Pokémon I want without any restriction."

There is no explanation why there's an inconsistency between regions where tms break and don't. Here's a joke, what does the Pokemon even do to learn the move? Does it eat it like a berry in the earlier games? The more obvious reason is because of either limitations or an added sense of challenge and strategy. Even so, I prefer multi use or a tm shop in a department store or special npc which sells tms you used up, so you can purchase them again if needed. Glitches such as Missingno, PC duplication in GBC and emerald are ways to duplicate items including tms, circumventing the situation. Albeit, missingno is harder for me to use. Gen 4, even though my favorite gen, has to be the hardest gen to farm tms and technically get enough to feel like multi use tms because there isn't as many glitches or exploits in the originals besides multiple play throughs then trading them over for more powerful/useful tm moves. BDSP requires to be on a outdated version to perform it's infamous duplication glitches easily. Gen 9 just wants you to use the material gathering gimmick, which requires some farming, but at least you can get all tms over again with recipes.

I enjoy having to be strategic and think about how I use a powerful single use TM. Although I still prefer permanent because the post game suffers with single use when I want to try out end game content and can't easily set my moves.

I prefer unlimited use. Gives you a lot more options when making a team. I like the freedom of it. You can still think very strategically with unlimited TM's about when to use them and take them off. Or how many Pokemon on your team do you really want having the same move.

I like it when Pokemon games combine both a sandbox environment and limited TMs. Basically, gen 1 did that with giving you access to a lot of Pokemon early on but also only one of each TM (albeit a lot of good ones). The way I like playing these games is by coming up with a team and then trying to optimize their move sets while also having to deal with the restriction single use TMs provide. That way I can replay the games multiple times while still having many more options to explore in future playthroughs.

It does help that I don't really care about postgame and competitive.
