I don't own my own tablet per se, more like it's my mother's - but yeah I do use it from time to time. Tablets are very convenient and act just like a mini laptop, only with an on-screen keyboard without a mouse, which is fine because it uses touch screens. One can use a tablet to surf the Internet, type documents, make slideshows, play games, take photographs/videos, and many more. When travelling, one would prefer to bring along a tablet instead of a bulkier and heavier laptop, unless one really needs a laptop because of work-related stuff. Although it has all of these advantages, people still prefer gravitating towards the traditional keyboard and mouse because touch screens offer a lower level of accuracy while navigating and creating word documents, plus most games are based on the laptop platform rather than tablets. As the only brand of tablet that I use is the iPad, I can only recommend that to others as that is all I know.
