I don't know about learning a language to help me in life, but I wouldn't mind learning Japanese. It wouldn't help me per say, but it'd help me on Japanese games, anime, manga, etc. Stuff that wouldn't help me IRL, but something that'd I like due to me likeing anime, manga, and would like to import games and understand them.
 
I'm learning French right now, and since I'm Canadian, a bilingual country, it's gonna help open some doors for me later on in life. I wouldn't mind learning Japanese or Spanish, though, later on in the future. They both sound really interesting to learn~ :D
 
Well, I'm interested in teaching myself the symbols of Hylian (from Legend of Zelda) only because last I heard, they match Japanese so it wouldn't be to hard to pick up. :P

I've learnt French in high school but I hate the way my university handles it so I'm not too inclined to continue in it. I took Japanese through high school too and I'm taking it again in university this term... as well as Spanish if I can get into a class. x_o
 
I still don't know any other languages. xD

I know like the easiest basics of Spanish. That's all. xD

But apparently.. In Japan, they pay alot of money to teachers who teach English and say it's better if the teacher doesn't know any Japaneses at all. o.O

It's unlikely that you'd be a teacher - how can you teach if you can't communicate with the students? Chance are you'd be able to assist in the classroom though.

I don't see how you plan on living in Japan without knowing any Japanese o.O
 
I thought that was strange too..

I guess they think that if the teacher doesn't know any Japanese, they can help the students with their English vocabulary and not be tempted to talk in Japaneses.

But I don't see the harm in knowing Japanese if you're an English teacher over there.

Not knowing Japanese would be awkward..
 
No no, you can do it. I don't think you'd get paid, just a mostly paid trip to japan so you can teach english but there's a program for it that my brother's friend took during his rest year from college. I dunno what it's called.

It's quite possible to go about your business without knowing the language, it's basically like being on vacation for an extended period of time. xDD It's frustrating and uneffective, but charades goes a long way. xDD

I think the point of not knowing Japanese and going to teach English is because some Japanese English teachers have trouble grasping the flopped grammatical structure?

I dunno, but there is a program for non-japanese speakers to go teach english. Apparently you just learn Japanese from your students along the way?
 
I've seen posters for such a program around the university. A lot of countries have them. But you're more there just to help in the class as an assistant. Like here, my teacher invites Japanese natives that are on campus to come join us in class. My teacher's a Japanese native herself, so it isn't required, but she gets the Japanese students to assist us a bit in class and they're even free to answer any questions we have when we're outside of class.
 
Personally, I know I'd feel really weird in a country in which I had no grasp of the language. XD;

I'm learning Japanese at the moment (my third year in doing so), but I'd struggle in Japan at the moment. Although I'm a competent reader/writer for the level we're learning at, I struggle to pick up on anything that is said in the language. Needless to say, I'm terrible in the conversation assessments. :s I assume that if I did go to live in Japan though, I'd get used to the listening aspect reasonably quickly.
 
Same here, I took 4 years worth in high school, I can't understand a lick of Japanese. I talked to my great aunt that lives there, and she was asking me what my teacher's name was, but I thought she was asking if i wanted to become a teacher... needless to say, I had no idea what was going on. I think it'd be easier if i could think completely in japanese before I try conversing with it. What i realize when i was taking Japanese, was that you're learning it by learning the grammar first instead of words and basic statements. I mean you're trying to learn another language through a completely different one, so obviously it's not the same as learning the language through that language, so you're going to have troubles... wow that was a little confusing... i think i'm going to bed...
 
I just visited Mexico for 5 days and I can speak just enough to get around and I did. It was actually an amazing feeling, to be honest.

To know what someone is saying in another language, then be able to speak back to them was probably one of the more awesome things I've ever done. Sounds awfully nerdy, but it's really beneficial to be able to speak another language.

I've taken Spanish classes most of my life, but I barely used any of what they taught me and more of what I've learned on my own.

But, along with Spanish, I'm learning Japanese and it's a really tough language to understand. You've got all your letterings and calligraphy. But, once I know I speak it well enough, I'll be heading over there for a week and see how I do. XD
 
Yeah, I'm with you on the characters, Klippy. :P For the ones that I do know, every time I write one, someone berates me for using the incorrect stroke order. Still, the end result is understandable and I still get the marks in exams and essays. :P

It's went back to the DCC... but for short periods of time. I only remember seeing the old DCC name twice. XD

I actually liked tahC tihC yliaD ehT (Except Thursdays).
 
I don't see why they're doing it, it doesn't make much sence. But it's better than yesterday's title, at least this time I can read it. xD
