The Daily Chit-Chat, Chat-Chit, Chit-Chit, Chot-Chut Choot Shoot Chute Thread

If we're considering significance and length of survival, I would rank the DCC straight up there with a few of our games in Other Trivia. Threads like "The One Above" or "Ban the Person Above" have been around since we all can remember, and in fact always travel from Forum to Forum. You'll find those types of threads in any forum that has a booming community and an equivalent to PC's off-topic discussion board.

The DCC is no different. It, too, passes from board to board. Although you might argue that Other Trivia is just composed of mindless games, the DCC is composed of nothing more than chit-chat. Am I wrong?
It is a combination of things. The amount of activity, the significance to all the members (new and old), the life of the thread (its been there since the beginning), the impact it can have on new members to the forum, and the fact it is one of the only parts of the forum the almost everyone visits. You can take each one of those individual things and apply them to one thread or another over the entire site, but DCC is probably the only one that you could apply all of them to. And that is why it deserves a spot on the front page.

The latest incarnation of the DCC has had 2000 posts in the past two weeks, js. So It's for sure one of the most active threads on PC, thus warranting a quick link, in my opinion. Personally, I think it should be left up to the section moderator.
And 2000 posts in 2 weeks is an insane amount of posts. And I agree that this should be left up to the forum moderator.

Also, I did think of 1 other thread that has the prominence and legacy to be added to the front page, but because it has a very small fraction of traffic (It has almost the same amount of posts in 2 years than DDC has in two weeks), I think it should be left alone: New Users Hangout.

I'd presume it means "My Little Pony". (b'-')b

Yes. It does. I don't feel like saying it in the full name. What I don't understand is why it's a fad...it's like twenty five years old.

Okay see the problem is that people don't initially join PC to discuss in the Daily Chit-Chat. That in itself should be enough to disallow a shortcut on the front page to this thread. The PokeCommunity is a community revolving around pokemon, which features off-topic discussion boards that happen to be one of the most frequently visited forum on the website. But when I first joined, I didn't give a crap about the DCC or even Other Chat.

Secondly, you're starting everyone on PC visits Other Chat. That's simply not true. While I am all for the immersing of forum members into the wide varieties of discussions that this board has to offer, only a small fraction of PC's members visits the Other Chat forum. I will admit a large portion of PC's active population does visit the forum but that is no reason to be favouring certain threads over others.

Again I'd like to re-itterate: I'm all for shortcut to certain boards, but no favouritism. No matter how significant and long-lasting a thread may be, The Daily Chit-Chat does not have exclusive rights to a shortcut while no other places on the forum do. People who don't visit the DCC would expect other options. They would expect shortcuts to the forums they visit the most.

No offense to you but that's a terrible idea lol.

I meant for all the forums, say, if Twilightblade wants a certain thread, say the Quick Trade Thread to be the 'Quick link' thread, I would advocate that she should have say over the decision, is all. Hypothetically speaking of course, Marz. You know how Hstaff can be in changing things, etc. :/ I don't see any changes happening though, to be honest. It's nice, but all you really have to do is make one more mouse click. So.... yeah.

OC has more threads/posts than HGSS and B&W combined though. It may be 'off topic', but in no way does that take away from what the forum is. Other Chat is historically one of the greatest and most active forums on the whole site, and is integral to Pokecommunity as a whole. Call me biased, but the archives speak for themselves.

If you could make a shortcut for all the sub forums, then yeah, I'd do it. I agree with the no favoritism part of it, though. The Pokecommunity as a whole needs to benefit from it.

Hmm I get what you're saying. But if we were going as far as to let mods decide what threads in their particular forums deserve a shortcut, there'd be a bunch of shortcuts that no one uses on the bar first of all lol. And secondly if we're going through all that trouble we may as well just let members customize their shortcuts.

Well yeah, we can bicker all we want and it's all up to the hstaff in the end.

Customizing shortcuts would be more effective and simple, imo. I think that was brought up in CQ&F awhile back, IIRC. :o

I support it. Like it or not, the DCC is essentially the go-to thread in OC. It's almost always active these days and it's a catch-all for discussion and chat. Other threads come and go but this one is different. I realize it's already stickied, so I can see the "what's the point?" argument but it certainly doesn't hurt to link to the more important threads. :/ And this one is definitely important from an activity standpoint.

We use thread shortcuts in the staff forums so I guess I'm really used to them and that's why I have no issues putting them in other forums.

Yeah that was me lolol

And the Quick Trade Thread is the go-to thread in, not only the WiFi Centre, but I would even say in the entire Current Pokemon Gaming board. If the DCC deserves a shortcut, so does it. And so does any other significantly active thread of the forum. DCC deserves nothing more than any other thread.

Agreed on the Quick Trade thread. I was actually gonna name drop it but didn't want to make my point too long. If we were gonna add the DCC in for Other Chat, we'd definitely check out other forums and find the threads that people use more than the others. Or the ones where if someone's going into a forum for one thing, it's often that. (Like in Q&F, I'd argue the "where does my thread go?" sticky might be a good one to link right in the description.)

I think a mix of the most active, as well as the most helpful threads across PC - the ROM Hacking utility threads, the 'Where does this Go' sticky in CQ&F, the Claiming Threads, as well as important thread indexes in places like Other Trivia, Other Clubs, Wifi Center, etc.

The bottom line is this. If it benefits the individual forums, and if it promotes forum activity, ACROSS THE ENTIRE SITE, then we do it.

The only issue for me is that I don't know whether I'd want them to link to the "latest page" or the first page. :( I wanna say latest (since that's what's relevant for me re: DCC), but for most threads it's more important that the first post is read above all else, haha.

I would definitely say for DCC or New User Hangout...it would have to be the latest page...but anything else that would have rules or something on the first page...then first page would take precedent...

Or maybe the little page icon next to it could bring you to the latest post and the link itself to the first page, or vice versa. :D

Very true.

I just think if this were to happen, we need to make sure the selection process for these threads is pretty strict. We can't have like 5 per every forum. I think 3-5 links for the whole front page would be plenty. But I do think that DCC needs to be one of those.

Idk, I like the idea of "feature links" but not so much to DCC. DCC is just randomness, new people or people who don't post here often may be put off by that. The Pokemon vs Pokemon Weekly Poll in pokemon general would probably be a good one though.
