The DARKEST DUNGEON II

DAY ONE
OP | GAMEPLAY
NZ | D1
The Man-at-Arms looked out at the dark and looming hill. Day approached, but not nearly fast enough. He felt an evil presence nearby and raised his weapon, peering into the thick fog with his one remaining eye. He shivered and felt as if his soul were nearly ripped from his body, but the feeling dissipated almost as soon as it had arrived. He turned and opened the Inn's door, where the The Jester's mandolin chimed with a soothing melody.

The Crusader patrolled the cobbled streets of the Hamlet, sword drawn and ready. He would not let foul creatures roam these streets any longer. But he heard a snap behind him and spun about to face Vvulf, leader of the Brigands.

"Wha'er you doin' out 'ere, li'l man?" Vvulf asked, smiling as he drew his own sword.

"Stay back, foul man. I have no quarrel with you. Only those of the dark."

"Wha' say you com' with me, ey? Plen'y of treasures to be had 'ere. Could use a man like you."

The Crusader lowered his sword and grasped at the chain about his neck. He tore it off and threw it to the ground.

"There's a smart man," laughed Vvulf.

The Arbalist heard the laughter, but was chasing her own quarry. She rounded the corner and fired her crossbow at the foul monster. It shrieked in agony and wheeled about. The Siren slashed its massive tail at its attacker, but The Arbalist was too quick and ducked down an alley. Peaking out, she discovered the beast was gone.

At nearly the same time, The Cannibal lunged towards his prey. He was starving and had to eat. He did not care who. As he tore into his victim's flesh, they screamed and he ran. He knew the risks of his hunger, but the taste of flesh and his starvation made for a deliciously deadly mix.

The Ghoul slammed down into a pit. It roared in anger and pain as stakes pierced its side. Someone had trapped its target. It had barely scratched its victim before falling into this trap. It clawed itself out and ran back into the fog, leaving its victim on the ground, hurt but still healthy.

The chaos of the night frightened the shopkeepers and they chose to remain closed this morning.

Spoiler:

Interesting that the 'dawn' segment wasn't included.

I wonder if day one was planned to skip it or the nights events prevented it...

Just as a heads up: I'll only be able to check in once a day during this week so if you're seeing a lack of activity/actual thinking from me it'll be because of irl business killing my time. I'll be back at full force as soon as this week is over (aka some time after a day/night phase or 2 day phases are over).

Anyway, I second the thought on the no Dawn phase. Perhaps it is not needed right now considering that it's still the first night?

Klippy literally four posts above you said:

._.

EDIT: @Mimikyu You too? You're not going to win the game if you don't read the whole text.

Oh boy, there's lots of stuff to read here. I think Bard has it all, but there's one thing I'm confused about. There's a white +15 next to the Grave Robber. Is that stress? If so, what caused it?

P.S. I've never actually played this before so I have no idea what the characters names are so pls don't hate me

The white +15 should be Stress Relief, assuming Klippy is using the same colors from the game. Black is what normally indicates stress. I assume that means the Jester targeted the Grave Robber with his Inspiring Tune.

And I find it interesting that Vvulf is a recruiter. I have never dealt with him personally (in-game, of course) as his thing is an event where his group invades the Hamlet. I do know that he has the most skills of any terror, though.

Love reading that flavour text, it's so immersive. That white +15 could definitely be stress, however we could also have a healing role that can heal nightly for +15. That sounds super strong tbh and I'm leaning more towards it being a stress counter.

Vvulf is off to a good start with his cult. But he's got a big target on his back now if you ask me.

Also good job to whoever trapped the ghoul, haha.

Excuse me Caps but you don't enter a mafia game after having to write 4 different 1000-word essays with a clear mind now, do you?

Real quick; how can you tell what each role does? All I see is pictures in the OP, I can't click on anything, and nothing appears when I hover over any of the names or pictures. Is this just a problem I'm having, or is anyone else having this issue as well.

Also, Candy, my apologies.

You can't tell, you have to guess from the flavor text I guess.

Nice flavor text, Klippy.

IIRC in the first game we mostly attacked randomly on D1. Not sure if that's the best strategy here but it's all I got for now. We could also wait and see if any events pop up today.
Also, Candy, my apologies.
Wow, totally did not see that was Candy's alt lol. Nice to see you Candy!

Hm...So I took a quick look back at TDD1 and it looks like we won't be getting the normal open setup we usually get on PC. No worry, that's cool!

@Nakuzami so you think the +15 role is a stress relief? If there were to be an HP heal, what color would it be? Green?

Also it appears that the Cannibal attacked either the Abomination or Collector.

You guys have said most of the stuff, so there's not a lot to add. Just a couple of things that stood out to me.

1. The Arbalist received 3 damage, and the way the phase post is worded, it seems that the Siren has some kind of retaliating passive ability? Or did she happen to target the Arbalist as well?

2. How come noone died? I realize this is a stats game, so 1 death per night would be too strong, but noone is even highly damaged. Was the Ghoul supposed to do the killing but fell in that trap?

O

I didn't know that either

And yeah, Caps, green would be healing. It's what Klippy used for healing in the first game, and what it shows up as in the actual TDD game, so I would say it's a rather safe bet.

And also, Caps, you could probably look up the classes and terrors from TDD and guess at what they do based on what they do in the game. It certainly won't be exact, but it might give you an idea. The skills won't be the exact same, but they'll probably be similar. That's why I guessed that the +15 stress heal was from the Jester, as his Inspiring Tune skill in the game heals about that much stress, though in the game it also comes with a buff that grants stress resistance, and that may not be present here.

edit: not sure if the ghoul would have done much damage, but in the first game, the only dangerously high attack I recall was the giant's, and that was a day attack. The ghoul is a more dangerous terror, but in my experiences, he does more stress damage than actual damage. Might not be the case here, though.

As for the Siren, I'm not sure if she'd retaliate. She does get protection from the fish people, though, as she's their queen (kind of?) and there is one that she summons that can guard her. Probably not the case here, but it could be a possibility. (The only actual counters in the real game, however, are when the Highwayman or Man-at-Arms activate Riposte)

An idea is for everyone to hit themselves to see what everyone's attack is
But rethinking that some people may accidentally kill themselves

I don't believe you can attack yourself, plus if this works like last game then the monsters will have high night attacks and low day attacks, like I did in the first one, so this strategy would only help them out.
