The Official Shiny Thread

For the RNG Method, the Seeds always stop me.
None ever come up :( I gave up after 2 attempts.
Might re-try today..

As for the japanese thing, how would one
get a japanese pokemon from ie: platinum
to the english platinum without 2 DS's?
How would one trade the pokemon from
one game to the other game with only one DS?
I have a flashcart so I could get a jap. game,
but how would I trade it to my self? I once
tried trading my Diamond pokemon to my
Platinum through GTS, but apparently it
doesn't work :(

Without 2 DS's I guess it sucks to be you. Could always hope for one on the GTS. Or, you could trade it to a friend via wifi then have that friend trade it back to you on the other game.

i was bored and decided ot go into the old chateau.

saw a shiny gastly and caught it.

if i had attacked,id have fainted it,being a good 35 levels higher and all...

From the English game, stick something uncommon-ish, but still nobody would want, on the GTS, eg. Lv1 Oddish. Request the Pokémon you want sent to that game--let's say Totodile. Go to your Japanese game with the Totodile you want to trade on it, hit up the GTS, search for Oddish 9 and under, find yours where a Totodile is requested, and trade your Totodile for it. Go back to the English game to claim your Totodile.

Works perfectly, and at no time is a valuable Pokémon at risk of being traded to a stranger.

If you want to be extra-secure, give your dud Pokémon a strange nickname and make sure you've checked your location on the GTS globe. Check both of these conditions, obviously.

The reason to use a more uncommon Pokémon is so that your search isn't flooded with 7 other results, burying your own. If this happens anyway, try a different species until you find one that doesn't have that many on the system.

i have over 60 shinys atm, but the only shiys i ever caught myself was a shiny pidgey in crystal, goldeen in crystal, bronzor in diamond and in diamond i ran into a shiny heatran jus trying to catch it with some ultra balls, im SOOOO excited so i try and get it down enough cuz i used my masterball on mesprit, and i CRIT bam dead D= but i may start trying to chain

IVs: 31 / 31 / 24 / 30 / 26 / 31

Well, I have no comments, as words cannot express how awesome this is. I already have a well IV bred Metagross, but I was bored and wanted to try out a new shiny method. Despite having some difficulty for days, I finally found this bad boy. I saved next to the old man holding the egg, so I could safely reset for proper IVs and a cool location. I'm disinterested in trading, so this beauty is going straight to my Wifi or Battle Frontier team. ^o^

I've been working on chaining and I'm not the greatest,
but so far I've gotten the few that I want.

Pidgey (first shiny, it was for practice) evolved it twice
Bronzor (x2) going to EV train one, maybe
Ponyta (x2) Evolved one
Houndoom
Starly

I really want a Magikarp but to my knowledge you can't chain those...:disappoin

Can you get a shiny Pokemon from hatching it from an egg? If not, i just bred like 15 Chikoritas for nothin'

Does one of the games have to be japanese? :S

Yes, you can get shiny Pokémon from eggs with the usual odds. You can also use Masuda's Method (breed a foreign Pokémon with one of your own) for improved odds of 1/2048, but it'll take MUCH more than 15 eggs to say the least.

That's not what this is about. What I described is how you can securely transfer a Pokémon from one game to another over the GTS without requiring a second DS.

If you want to try the foreign breeding, just hit up the GTS and look for Pokémon (you'll probably only want the females so you can apply your own Egg Moves) with foreign names. The most obvious ones are Japanese, but if you know the Pokémon's names in other countries, those should probably work too. (Right now, my foreign breeder is a French Skorupi named "RAPION.")

@ Rey: Is the trading a Pokemon from a different language version to another method called the RNG method?

Wow :o Good job TB. Did you even try to get that shiny? Or did it just pop up? That's really awesome though, like it's IVs and all, jesus.

No. Breeding with international parents is called the Masuda method because he works with the games. In his blog, he encouraged trainers to use the GTS and breed a foreign pokemon and something special may happen.. The shiny chance is reduced to about 1/2000. It works in any 4th gen game.

Well, I have been hunting for a shiny for a couple days, and I used the RNG method. I was surprised that it worked. Anyways, you can SR the IVs of the egg if you save next to the old man when an egg appears on the Breeding app, so it's pretty easy with some patience.

I was getting tired of Murkrow chains failing, so I was wandering around northeast Sinnoh racking in my mind what to chain. Anything in 228 is out of bounds, then I thought of Stark Mountain, and thought, "CAMERUPT. NU TEAMS FTW"

First time netted me 16 shiny Camerupt. However, without a Synchronizer, none of them were Modest, sadly. I have to go with one of two Quiet Solid Rockers. =(

Oh well.

This brings the Sinnoh Shiny Excursion to 9 species and 160 shinies. =D

Haven't caught a Shiny, but I got a Shiny Golbat in a trade last night. Looks much better Green instead of it's natural color.

K, well then what is the RNG method?

Wait though. If you SR before you get the egg from the old man, and if your egg was shiny and then you SRed, then wouldn't you most likely not get that shiny again? Cause if I remember correctly, when the old man hands you the egg is when the Pokemon's gender, IVs, and if it's a shiny or not is determined. If you saved right before you got the egg, hatched it, and it was a shiny yet did not have the IVs you wanted, and if you SRed, then wouldn't the next time you hatch that egg, you most likely wouldn't get a shiny? Sorry if that's confusing, I'm bad at wording :[
