man what it is with me taking forever to find party members...lickitung took so long lol. i found it and grinded up a little, but ultimately just stuck it with the exp share for now bc i got impatient and my other party members are a little overlevel so i was like meh. i beat maylene pretty easily bc of pachirisu's super fang + discharge combo. sweet kiss is handy, too. and wormadam has psybeam and hp fire for lucario, gastrodon is tanky. she didn't stand a chance tbh. soon i am going to have to evolve lickitung into one of my least favorite pokemon but you know i did put it on the list so i did this to myself. croagunk is next up to catch as well, so let's all hold hands and pray for a swift encounter lol. also bonus points to anyone that gets the reference for lickitung's name. bonus points that don't actually amount to anything but we can pretend okay x​

Update 1​

After starting the game and making it to Violet city, I got the Slugma egg from Primo. I went to Dark Cave to hopefully find Dunsparce while waiting for the egg to hatch, but after half an hour of looking I decided to come back after I could use rock smash to find one. Slugma hatched, but she was somewhat difficult to use until she learned Ember at level 8. After that I breezed through Sprout tower and didn't have any problems against Falkner.

After I got the Zephr badge I went back to Dark Cave and found a Dunsparce. He was also a bit difficult to use given that he only had Rage as an attacking move, but his bulk that he was gaining from leveling up was really helpful. The battle against Bugsy went pretty well, with Dunsparce defeating Metapod and almost taking out Scyther before getting knocked out with a crit U-turn. Slugma finished up Kakuna and Scyther and I had earned my second badge.

So, I found out BlazeBlack2 doesn't seem to work when I change the starter, and the earliest I'd be able to get any of the Pokémon is after 2 badges (Abra on Castelia and Maractus on Desert Resort).

Should I just go for it anyway or would it be better to change the team a little?

That's weird, I remember using the UPN once or twice and it worked, I think.

Still, I'm pretty sure the only Pokémon in that list available early on is Golduck (Floccesy Ranch)?

Yeah, I was pretty sure it worked too, but for some reason when I open the randomizer it says all three starters are Wigglytuff and once I change it the new game is just completely white with no sound.

Will do that, thanks! In retrospect, I should've probably picked the game before the Pokémon to make more options viable for the early game...Not that I really mind tho, I'm looking forward to eventually use every mon in this list anyway.

Update 1:

I started the game and picked Tepig, named him Placebo cuz Placeholder didn't fit. After that I evaded every single trainer I could before I could catch Psyduck. The first one I found was level 5, so I had to grind her up to level 10.

Then I proceeded through the story to get to Roxanne before fighting Cheren. I was humiliated. On my first match against Cheren, it was all fine and dandy until Munchlax clicked Metronome and I KID YOU NOT it got Seed Flare. Anyways, back to Roxanne. After a hard time to kill Anorith because I got all the worst possible rolls at the worst possible times, Lileep. Now, this thing has Storm Drain so I can't Water Gun, but I figured out I can Disable right after it charges Solar Beam to secure it's gonna get locked, so that's nice. Lileep is apparently a ninja cuz I can't hit it with Hypnosis for the death of me. Thankfully, it choked as its life got to red cuz it clicked Solar Beam again so I went for the kill. Finally, Nosepass. Nosepass sucks and died to 2 Water Guns, despite carrying Volt Switch for no apparent reason as Roxanne only sent it out last. ROXANNE BEAT WOW.

Now back to Cheren. Cinccino and Lillipup were relatively easy, although I did have to spam Hypnosis on Cinccino. Munchlax though. 135 HP and 85 Sp.Def? Why? It's a baby Pokémon! Honestly, having to kill it with neutral special moves, specially considering Psyduck has a negative sp.attack nature, just made me spam Confusion so it would get confused. Which it obviously didn't, ever. My strategy here was putting it to sleep on cooldown, disabling Tackle whenever possible and spamming Confusion. After a long and honestly exhausting battle, Confusion critted and it died. I now officially hate Munchlax. Love Snorlax, but hate Munchlax.

God, I hope Roxie is easier.

Cool, so I arrive at Virbank and guess what? It's raining. Why does that matter? Because Psyduck has Swift Swim. So I hurry down and complete the Virbank Complex miniquest and then straight to Brawly. Time to abuse rain.

Machop is his first mon so I abused No Guard and rain to put it to sleep and then Water Pulse twice, as it does more damage in the rain than Confusion. I then Water Pulse Medidite, it gets confused AND hits itself. Easy. Scraggy is the one I'm most afraid of as I'm well aware of how monstrous this line was in Gen 5. But I put it so sleep and the second Water Pulse landed a crit, so that's that. Finally, Makuhita. It dodged Hypnosis twice and almost one-shot Psyduck with Bulk Up + Revenge. I then put it to sleep and disabled Revenge but I didn't really need to cuz Water Pulse destroyed it.

Brawly was by a long distance the easiest leader so far. Like, as distant as my mother's expectations of me vs what I actually achieved.

Now for Roxie. Turns out her Trubbish is Normal Gem Explosion. That was fun. So I grinded Psyduck until level 28 (bear in mind it got absolutely destroyed by Trubbish at level 23) and time to try again. 28 might have been too much. Except not, as I lost to Roxie two more times, one of them at level 29 with Zen Headbutt.

Final run against Roxie. Now's our time, girl. Zen Headbutt one-shot Trubbish but Psyduck got hurt by Aftermath. Psyduck then landed Hypnosis on Koffing and I took this chance to heal up the Aftermath damage cuz I learned before that this just might be crucial. Sure enough, Koffing woke up. So I put it to sleep again. I clicked Water Pulse to bait the switch on Croagunk, which didn't happen, and later killed it with Zen Headbutt. Clicked Zen Headbutt on Whirlipede and I figured out by now it's better to two-shot it than trying to put it to sleep. It clicked Toxic, but I'm pretty sure Croagunk can't kill me with Fake Out + Vaccum Wave. I finally did it. I'd be pretty mad at Roxie by now but I do have a weak spot for girl bassists so no.

Gotta say, these first two gyms were tough and this is is the most fun I've had playing Pokémon in a while.

Although some challenges do require updating, I believe this one doesn't. I only really posted when I beat it the first time around, but I noticed that writing your progress down and updating helps you remember things about both your team and the game itself.

Update 3 (boi is this one huge):

Okay, so listen to this: I got to Castelia City's side of Relic Passage and found a Roggenrola. Then I killed it cuz it didn't have Sturdy (turns out in BlazeBlack2 it has Sand Force as a possible second ability) and only found another 1 and a half hours later, despite the 20% chance. Also, I found a Clefairy in the meantime, but completely forgot I needed one cuz I tunnel visioned on Roggenrola and killed it. Clefairy is 0.5% chance. Tbh tho, I think I'm going to take even longer to find a Roggenrola cuz I think I really need Sturdy to beat Burgh. Also I found like 5 Larvitars (0.5%) in the time it took me to find 3 Roggenrolas.

Either way, say hello to Cleo and Edgar.

Also I changed Psyduck's name cuz the city pun joke was just not my thing and it was really bad either way.

Time for our first fight against Burgh. He leads with Vespiquen and I lead with Boldore, and we both start boosting our defenses. As I reach +6 and he reaches +3, I start Rock Blasting mostly to preserve some of Strength's PP. He flinches me four times in a row with Air Slash and I know for a fact this thing is Leftovers because it's almost back to full HP by now, so what the hell? He flinches me once more and I'm not kidding, the only turn I don't flinch is the one he crits me. Rock Blast destroys him though. Guess what doesn't crit me? Leavanny's Leaf Blade. And I'm +6 so it does NOTHING to Boldore. Parasect's Seed Bomb is even more laughable. Parasect then Spores me and after 3 turns sleeping and tanking like a boss, Boldore's second Rock Blast kills. It could have been the first, but of course Rock Blast only hit twice on the first turn. Finally, he sends out Masquerain and almost kills me with Bubblebeam, so I switch Psyduck in but he also has Giga Drain so I switch Clefairy in and this man starts spamming Double Team. Remember I said this was the most fun I've had playing Pokémon in a while? Forget that. Also, Signal Beam confused Clefairy. This feels great. FINALLY, CLEFAIRY CRITS WITH STRENGTH. I did use a Dire Hit on a random turn. His last mon is Scyther so I sack Clefairy to heal Boldore.

Psyduck you, Burgh.

Before battling Wattson, I want to catch Maractus. I don't feel like my team as of now will beat him, and a resistance is very nice, even though Manectric probably has Flamethrower.

Side note on Colress:

His team here is not strong, it's blatantly stupid. And he has Hyper Potions to use on level 25 mons. In fact, his Porygon2 has Eviolite and if it weren't for its AI deciding to spam Psyshock on Boldore and Strength critting, I doubt I'd have ever beaten him. On the second try.

After beating Colress, I found out a ton of great items were put in the place of some garbage ones in Castelia, so while looking for the Life Orb in the sewers Psyduck evolved into Golduck (btw Psyduck learns Petal Dance at level 33 in this game for whatever reason lol).

Finally, I caught Maractus. Say hello to Guillermo! Gonna be tackling Wattson on the next session though.
